7 arrested, 63 motorcycles seized in crackdown on ‘mat rempit' at Jalan Astana

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation followed a viral video posted in social media on July 11, showing a large group of motorcyclists gathering and riding recklessly, causing public disturbance. 'The operation resulted in arrests under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding. 'The police also issued 1,161 summonses for various traffic violations, with the motorcycles seized under Section 60 of the same act,' he said in a statement today. Alexson added that between January and July 11, nine local males aged between 15 and 20 were arrested under Section 42(1), and 75 motorcycles were confiscated for using illegally modified exhausts that caused excessive noise. Throughout the operation, a total of 948 individuals and 746 motorcycles were inspected, with 1,230 summonses issued in total.

Kuching cops arrest man for suspected drug trafficking, seize 70.5g meth

KUCHING (July 10): A raid by police on a house in Stampin Baru here on Tuesday saw the arrest of a 46-year-old man on suspicion of trafficking in illicit drugs. Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the raid was conducted by a team from the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) at around 8.10pm. 'Seized during the operation was approximately 70.5g of drugs believed to be methamphetamine, worth an estimated RM7,750. 'The suspect has been remanded until July 14 for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952,' he said in a statement today. The Section provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death. Alexson also said initial screening found the suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. 'However, a background check found he did not have any prior record related to drugs,' he added. Meanwhile, a separate raid by Kuching NCID personnel in the Tabuan Dusun area on the same day led to the seizure of 5.1g of methamphetamine worth RM561, and arrest of a 39-year-old man. Alexson said the suspect, who tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, has been remanded until July 12 for investigation under Section 39A(1) of the DDA. If convicted, the suspect faces between two and five years' imprisonment, and between three and nine strokes of the cane. Four men arrested in Kuching drug raids, nearly 3kg of narcotics seized
KUCHING (July 6): Police have arrested four local men, aged between 28 and 35, for suspected drug trafficking in three separate raids conducted here last week. Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the first suspect, aged 30, was arrested on July 3 during a raid by the a team from Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Sarawak at a house in Jalan Upper Chawan. 'Police seized about 2,209.73g of drugs believed to be ecstacy, with an estimated value of RM2,209.73,' he said in a statement yesterday. Alexson added that the suspect, who tested positive for benzo, had no prior drug-related criminal records. Regarding the second and third cases, Alexson said the raids were carried out on July 4 at two separate locations, namely a house in Taman Hussein at around 4 PM and another in Kampung Lintang about an hour later. 'At the house in Taman Hussein, police arrested two local men, aged 33 and 35 and confiscated 227.33g of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis (ganja), estimated to worth RM1,550 'Both suspects tested positive for THC and had no prior drug-related criminal records,' he said. Alexson said at the house in Kampung Lintang, police arrested a 28-year-old local man and seized 541g of dried leaves also believed to be cannabis (ganja), with an estimated value of RM3,800. Alexson said all four suspects have been remanded until July 11 for investigation under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of whipping if not sentenced to death.

Kuching cops arrest local man, seize RM23,000 worth of cannabis in early-morning raid

KUCHING (July 3): A 24-year-old local man was arrested early this morning for suspected drug trafficking during a raid at a commercial centre at Jalan Green here. Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation was carried out by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) at around 1.10am. He added that the raid led to the seizure of 7,450g suspected to be cannabis, estimated to be worth RM23,095 on the market. 'The suspect has no prior criminal record, and an initial urine test returned negative for drug use,' he said. Alexson said the suspect has been remanded for five days until July 7, to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, which provides for a death sentence or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of whipping if not sentenced to death. He also called on the public to continue sharing information on drug trafficking and abuse in their communities to facilitate prompt enforcement action. Cops nab man for attempt outrage of modesty in Kuching
Photo shows the police crest. KUCHING (July 2): A 28-year-old man was arrested by police Monday on suspicion of attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman along Jalan Sultan Tengah here. Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was nabbed in the vicinity of Jalan Sukma following a report lodged by the 34-year-old victim. 'The incident happened earlier in the day at around 7.15am when the woman was allegedly harassed by the man, who is unknown to her. 'Acting on a police report filed, a team tracked down the suspect and arrested him at about 6.15pm,' he said in a statement. He said while the suspect was tested negative for drugs, a background check revealed he has two prior criminal records. The case is being investigated under Section 354/511 of the Penal Code for attempted outrage of modesty, which provides for up to 10 years in prison or with fine or with whipping, or with any two of such punishments, upon conviction.
