Three dead and over 70 injured in football stadium disaster
Three football fans have died and more than 70 others were injured after falling from the upper stands of a stadium in Algeria during celebrations for MC Alger's league title win.
The incident happened at the 64,200-capacity Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers on Saturday, shortly after MC Alger drew 0-0 with NC Magra, securing the top-flight championship for the second year in a row.
According to local reports, fans surged forward in celebration after the final whistle. A barrier on the upper tier of the stadium collapsed, causing dozens of people to fall onto the lower stands. MC Alger fans applaud their team during the 2024 Algerian Super Cup Final. Pic; Shutterstock
