UNESCO Removes Abu Mena Monastery in Alex. from List of World Heritage in Danger
Nada Mustafa- Ali Abu Dashish In a major achievement for Egypt's cultural heritage preservation efforts, UNESCO's World Heritage Committee has officially removed the Abu Mena archaeological site in Borg El-Arab, Alexandria, from the List of World Heritage in Danger. The decision came during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Paris, following a 2025 joint monitoring report by UNESCO and ICOMOS. The report highlighted Egypt's significant progress in safeguarding the site, including the successful implementation of a groundwater monitoring system, which helped stabilize water levels that previously threatened the site's structural integrity. Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, praised the milestone, crediting years of work to reduce groundwater levels, restore architectural elements, and enhance visitor services. He also extended gratitude to all involved, including the Egyptian Church and Pope Tawadros II, whose support was key to the project's success. Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, emphasized that the removal of Abu Mena from the endangered list reflects global recognition of Egypt's commitment to protecting its cultural legacy. He added that Egypt is developing long-term sustainability plans to maintain the site's preservation. Dr. Gamal Mostafa, head of Islamic, Coptic, and Jewish Antiquities, noted the site's exceptional historical and religious the second-most significant pilgrimage destination after Jerusalem, Abu Mena was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1979. However, due to rising groundwater caused by nearby agricultural development, it was added to the endangered list in 2001. In response, Egypt launched a groundwater reduction project in 2019, which went operational in 2021 and has proven effective. Combined with restoration efforts, these actions fulfilled UNESCO's criteria for delisting, securing the site's future for generations to come. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

Hawass Opens Int'l l Workshop on Pyramids with Insightful Address
Ahmed Emam - Ali Abu Dashish Renowned Egyptologist Zahi Hawass delivered the opening address at a major international workshop hosted by the International Association of Egyptologists, dedicated to the latest research and discoveries related to Egypt's pyramids. In his keynote speech, Hawass recounted his decades-long journey exploring Egypt's ancient wonders, beginning with his tenure as Director of the Giza Plateau and extending to recent excavations at Saqqara in search of the elusive pyramid of King Huni. He firmly dismissed long-standing myths about the pyramids, emphasizing that both the Giza pyramids and the Great Sphinx are built on solid limestone bedrock. In the same context, he clarified there is no evidence of deep shafts or hidden chambers beneath the Pyramid of Khafre, contrary to popular speculation. The workshop also featured a lecture by Dr. Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, who shared insights from his excavation of the Pyramid of Sahure at Abusir. He underscored the advanced architectural planning of the Fifth Dynasty pyramids and stressed the importance of relying on scientific research rather than unsupported theories. In turn, Dr. Tawfik, President of the International Association of Egyptologists, highlighted that the workshop brought together over 100 Egyptologists and experts from around the world, both in person and virtually. The event showcased groundbreaking discoveries that shed light on the ingenuity of ancient Egyptian engineering—most notably, the logistics behind the construction of the Great Pyramid of Khufu. Among the most significant contributions was a presentation by Dr. Pierre Tallet, Director of the French Institute for Oriental Archaeology in Cairo, who discussed the Wadi al-Jarf papyri. Discovered along the Red Sea, the ancient documents offer rare firsthand accounts of the transport and organization behind the pyramid's construction. The workshop provided a vital platform for scholarly exchange and reinforced the global fascination with Egypt's ancient heritage, as well as the continued efforts to unravel its many enduring mysteries. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 .. Oud Player Yousif Abbas, Critic Mahmoud Abd El Shakour to Hold Symposium on Umm Kulthum
Yara Sameh - Ali Abu Dashish The oud miracle Youssef Abbas and the great critic Mahmoud Abdel Shakoor are set to meet on an exceptional evening for a symposium on the music legend Umm Kulthum. The event shed light on not only her voice that ensnared those who heard her music but also a cinematic presence that formed part of Arab art. The symposium is moderated by Mustafa El Tayeb and takes the attendees on an extended journey between melody, vision, and word, where they uncover a new side of the magic of the Kawkab el-Sharq. Abbas, who is also a composer and arranger, will reintroduce Umm Kulthum's songs that shone in films in a method that has never been presented before, using the oud to make the pieces alive again. As if they were presented in front of the audience for the first time, he blended his deep voice with the oud to retell the musical tales that made the glory of Egyptian cinema. Abd El Shakour will reveal the genius of Umm Kulthum's voice in cinema and how her songs were transformed into immortal scenes that blend music with vision to structure the conscience of entire generations. The event will be more than just a symposium; it will be an experience in which attendees will live with all their senses, where deep analysis meets live performance, and the magic that Umm Kulthum created decades ago is renewed in a one-of-a-kind evening.
