Israel kills Hamas naval force commander Ramzi Ramadan Abd Ali Saleh: ‘Eliminated'
The Israeli Defense Forces on Sunday said it had eliminated Hamas' naval commander Ramzi Ramadan Abd Ali Saleh in northern Gaza, along with other members of the Palestinian militant group. Amid talks of possible ceasefire, Israel strikes to eliminate Hamas leaders continue in Gaza. (AFP) Israel said that Ali Saleh was a significant source of knowledge within Hamas, adding that he was also recently involved in "planning and advancing maritime terrorist attacks against IDF troops operating in Gaza". Along with the Hamas naval force commander, the Israeli forces also took out the deputy head of the militant group's mortar shell array cell, Hisham Ayman Atiya Mansour. A terrorist of the array cell, Nissim Muhammad Suleiman Abu Sabha, was also eliminated in the Israeli strike. The naval commander of Hamas was killed in the strike on a cafe, in which the militant group-linked authorities reportedly said 24 persons lost their lives. Israel-Hamas ceasefire talks This development comes as an Israeli delegation left for Qatar for talks on a possible ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza, an official said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under mounting public pressure to secure a permanent ceasefire and bring an end to the war in Gaza. Hamas had said last week that it responded to a US-backed Gaza truce deal in a "positive spirit", a statement which came just days after US President Donald Trump said Israel had agreed "to the necessary conditions to finalise" a 60-day truce. However, Netanyahu's office had said that the changes sought by the Palestinian militant group to the ceasefire proposal were "not acceptable to Israel". The fighting between Israel and Hamas was triggered by the latter's unprecedented attack on Jerusalem on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people and 251 people being taken hostage. Of the 251 hostages, 49 are still held in Gaza, and of them only 20 are believed to be alive. According to Gaza's health ministry, Israel's retaliatory strikes have killed more than 57,000 Palestinians. They have resulted in over half the population's displacement, a hunger crisis, and the destruction of the territory.

Wasteful Al Wasl face tense test in Doha to extend UAE involvement in AFC Champions League
The UAE's continued participation in this season's AFC Champions League Elite will hinge on the second leg of Al Wasl's tie with Al Sadd in Doha next week. The Dubai side were held to a 1-1 draw by Qatar's most successful club at Zabeel Stadium on Monday night in the first leg of the round of 16. The winners of the encounter will advance to a new-look finals phase of the competition, with all the remaining rounds due to be played in Jeddah. Given the number and quality of chances they created, the UAE champions should really be booking their flights to Saudi Arabia already. Instead, they passed up a variety of clear opportunities to put the encounter beyond Al Sadd. Ali Saleh, the Al Wasl captain, was guilty of the most glaring miss, having given his side the advantage right at the start of the tie. The fog from the pyro display of the Al Wasl ultras was still lingering when Saleh cleverly found space in the Al Sadd box at a corner to score the opener in the third minute. The hosts then dominated the half, and should have doubled their lead when Joao Pedro found Saleh on the six yard line. With the goal at his mercy, the winger blazed over. Al Wasl were similarly dominant right after the restart, when they had four more good chances to score. All were passed up, and the feeling increased that Al Sadd might get something from the game. So it proved just after the hour mark when Abdullah Al Yazidi headed the leveller after he was expertly picked out by Akram Afif, the Al Sadd captain. 'It was a hard game but we played a great game,' Saleh said. 'A draw means it is still open for the second game, and we will try our best. 'We missed a lot and, unfortunately, I missed a big chance also, but we are ready for the next game. Of course, I'm not happy I missed that, but I needed to leave it behind and work hard for the rest of the game. 'It was a tough game and there was no time to feel sorry for ourselves. Now everything will be decided in Qatar.' Al Wasl are the lone remaining side from the UAE in Asia's top competition. Al Ain, the holders, saw their title defence ended at the group stage. Milos Milojevic, the Al Wasl coach, preferred to focus on the excellence of his side's performance rather than the misses. He said the tie was unlikely to be decided by the first game anyway. 'I think we were the better team over the whole game, but we allowed Al Sadd two chances and unfortunately the second one was expensive for us,' Milojevic said. 'In the whole picture I think we played a really good game. We positioned ourselves well, had a good flow of the ball, and with a bit of luck could have been in a better position ahead of the next game. 'I had a feeling ahead that everything would be decided then. It will not be an easy task but if we want to go further we have to make it there. 'It does not matter how long it takes, whether we do it in regular time or added time, it is what we need to do to win.' Felix Sanchez, the Al Sadd manager who was in charge of Qatar at the 2022 World Cup on home soil, is grateful his side are still in the tie. 'Al Wasl played a very good game and it was very challenging for us,' Sanchez said. 'We lost two players [to injury] and hopefully they are recovered for the next game. It is a result that leaves everything open for the next game.'

'My Experience in Pursuing Knowledge' – A Seminar at CIBF
Mohamed Mandour The Muslim Council of Elders' stand at the Cairo International Book Fair hosted its seventh cultural seminar, titled 'My Experience in Pursuing Knowledge.' The event featured Sheikh Ali Saleh, one of the senior scholars of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and was moderated by Shehata Al-Arabi, a broadcaster from the Quran Radio Network. The seminar explored Sheikh Ali Saleh's personal journey in seeking knowledge, including his upbringing, the pivotal role his parents played in his education, his early studies at the kuttab (traditional Quranic school), the influence of his teachers, and his scholarly endeavors in mastering Islamic texts. He also discussed the vibrant academic environment that shaped his educational development and shared invaluable advice for aspiring students of knowledge. Sheikh Saleh spoke in detail about the profound influence of his parents, particularly his mother, on his academic path. She actively supported his pursuit of knowledge, accompanying him to lessons, listening alongside him to lectures, and even helping him refine his understanding of 'Ilm Al-'Arud (the science of Arabic prosody). She even bought him fifty books to read when he was a child, which, by fate, were all on Arabic literature. This collection profoundly impacted his academic focus, leading him to specialize in this field. Sheikh Saleh also shared anecdotes about the distinguished scholars and teachers who deeply influenced his intellectual development. During the seminar, Sheikh Saleh recited selections from his poetic compositions, which spanned topics such as prosody, grammar, and praise of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. These verses were met with great admiration from the audience. The event drew a significant crowd of visitors to the fair, as Sheikh Saleh urged students of knowledge to dedicate themselves to learning, spend time reading, and master the Arabic language.
