Need for RM1.2 billion supplementary budget questioned

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government's proposed RM1.186 billion supplementary budget was questioned in the State Assembly on Monday, with Sekong Assemblyman Alias Sani warning against extravagant spending while many Sabahans still lack basic needs such as water. He reminded the House that the money being allocated belongs to the people — not the ruling party — and urged transparency and prudence in how public funds are managed. 'This is not money from the government or the ruling party, this is the people's money — including the people of Sekong,' he said. Alias raised concerns over several allocations within the supplementary budget, including an additional RM6.5 million for 'celebrations and major events,' RM13.85 million for temporary political appointments under the UPPM scheme, and RM600 million in statutory fund contributions — all while the rakyat continue to struggle with rising costs and inconsistent access to basic infrastructure. 'Is it reasonable to spend RM1.17 million a month on flights for the Head of State and the Chief Minister, while the people are struggling to pay their bills?' he asked, referring to the RM5.87 million set aside for official helicopter and jet use. Alias also questioned whether the RM54 million in equity investment under the development budget was meant for troubled government-linked companies (GLCs) and called for full disclosure of all GLCs that have received state equity injections since 2020. He highlighted the ongoing water woes in Sandakan, including in his constituency, and asked if the RM41.5 million pipe system upgrade and RM25 million allocated for water concessionaires would finally bring relief to affected areas. 'What about our pipe systems in Sekong? In Sandakan? Will this fix the endless water supply issues in our villages, housing estates, PPRs, and public buildings?' he asked. Alias also cited a recent protest by residents of Taman Permata over water shortages and a viral video showing a mother crying for help after giving birth with no water at home, pointing to these as signs of government and concessionaire failures. 'People don't care whose fault it is — they blame the government,' he said. He proposed that the State Government upload detailed breakdowns of supplementary expenditure online to allow public access and scrutiny, saying this would improve transparency and trust. 'Sabah is not the property of those in power. It is the rightful inheritance of all Sabahans — regardless of race, religion or language,' he said. Miller gave his girlfriend a sweet smooch as he supported her at a running event she was hosting benefitting Save The Children. Garner, 53, flung her arms around her love, greeted him with a kiss, and held him close. For over two months, the Alias actress has committed to running a mile a day to raise money for hungry children, and Saturday's event marked the culmination of all her hard work. She invited fans to join her at the event in a recent Instagram post that chronicled her daily jogs. 'Join me on June 22nd to run a mile for @savethechildren! I've been running one mile a day for the last 67 days— just $67 can help bring a child back from the brink of starvation,' she wrote. 'Now I'm inviting you to join me for my final mile on Sunday, June 22nd with @becsgentry and @brooksrunning in support of Save the Children— in LA or from wherever you are! Let's celebrate what we've done and keep this movement going strong.' And John was there rooting his girlfriend on as she concluded her running streak. John arrived in a casual olive green T-shirt, jeans, and a cup of coffee to get the day going. As for Jennifer, she wore a '67 Strong 4 Kids' T-shirt, leggings, and her hair styled into braided pigtails. The 13 Going On 30 actress has been dating Miller on-off since 2018 and recently it's been reported that they have begun living together part-time. In a recent update of Garner and Miller's relationship, Us Weekly reported that John is now living with the Alias actress 'part time.' 'John is basically living with Jennifer,' a source told the publication back in April, noting it was only 'part time.' The site also claimed he moved out of his Los Angeles home after the wildfires ravaged several neighborhoods in the Southern California city, and he has yet to find a new pad. 'He has an office in L.A. and splits his time between staying there and at Jennifer's home,' the source said. 'But he's been staying with Jennifer more often [and] doesn't want to impose, so he's looking for his own place… [and] deciding whether he'll rent or buy.' The PDA session took place in March in the evening, said the eyewitness. 'They are still going strong and appear to be doing really well,' the source told 'They looked happy and at ease like they were a married couple that is thriving. They laughed and smiled at each other. Very cute. 'Both were dressed casually and she had no makeup on, her hair down. He had on a coat and jeans.' The source added that there was plenty of affection between the two of them. 'They held hands and kissed and looked like a very normal couple with no Hollywood weirdness.'

The 'Accountant 2' star exited Steak 48 wearing a gray cardigan over a blue button-down shirt and dark jeans tucked into his beige boots. Shortly before Affleck's outing, the '13 Going On 30' star was seen locking lips with her longtime boyfriend. Photos shared by TMZ on Friday showed Garner passionately kissing Miller in a steamy embrace outside his Los Angeles home on Thursday.
