49ers announced slew of roster moves ahead of Thursday's training camp practice

The San Francisco 49ers are resuming their training camp on Thursday at their SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, following a day off on Wednesday. However, before the practice began, the team announced nine roster moves. San Francisco signed running back Ameer Abdullah, quarterback Carter Bradley, wide receiver Marquez Callaway and wide receiver Andy Isabella. Abdullah, 32, earned All-Big Ten honors thrice at Nebraska before the Detroit Lions took him in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. In his 10 seasons split between Detroit, Minnesota, Carolina and Las Vegas, he's rushed for 1,994 yards and eight touchdowns on 4.0 yards per carry while adding an addition 1,468 yards and 11 scores on 203 receptions. Bradley, 25, spent his collegiate career between Toledo (2018-21) and South Alabama (2022-23), earning All-Sun Belt honors in 2022. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent last year and spent most of his rookie season on their practice squad. Callaway, 27, was an All-SEC receiver at Tennessee before signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2020. In five seasons, he's caught 83 passes for 1,069 yards and seven touchdowns, but he hasn't recorded a reception since 2022. Isabella, 28, was a star at UMass, earning All-American honors his final season. The Arizona Cardinals took him in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft, and between his time with the Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers, he's caught 33 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns. To make room for these four, San Francisco released Equanimeous St. Brown and waived offensive lineman Sebastian Gutierrez, wide receiver Malik Knowles and safety Jaylen Mahoney. St. Brown, 28, signed with the 49ers just last week after spending his first seven seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints. He was fighting for a depth spot. Gutierrez, 27, spent time with the 49ers in 2023 and 2024 but only played three offensive snaps for the team in his two separate stints. He was also fighting for a depth or practice squad spot. Knowles, 24, earned All-Big 12 honors twice at Kansas State before signing with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. He signed with 49ers in June. Mahoney, 24, signed with San Francisco last year as an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt. He appeared in three games, playing 30 snaps (all on special teams) and recording three tackles. San Francisco also activated offensive lineman Ben Bartch from the non-football injury list. He's expected to contend for a starting spot on the offensive line now that he's back at camp. More 49ers: Free agent signing has thoroughly impressed OC Klay Kubiak early in training camp

Shedeur Sanders Has Fiery Reaction To Former Colorado Star Signing With the Packers

Shedeur Sanders Has Fiery Reaction To Former Colorado Star Signing With the Packers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Late July starts a flurry of activity in NFL training camps, and this year, the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns have an unexpected Colorado connection at the center of it. Months after his surprising fall to the fifth round, Shedeur Sanders is entrenched in a four-way quarterback competition in Cleveland with veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. The younger son of coach Deion Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2024, leading the Buffaloes' high-octane offense to a 9-4 record and earning Sanders Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Big 12, AP second team All-America and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. That production, accolades and pedigree fueled sky-high draft projections, but teams passed until the 144th pick. On Monday, one of Sanders' former college teammates, Will Sheppard, signed a training-camp deal with the Packers, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, garnering a simple, "🔥" reaction from Sanders on X. In college, Sheppard amassed 23 touchdown catches over his final three seasons that were split between Vanderbilt and Colorado. That total ranked him among the nation's most productive receivers. At Colorado, he started all 13 games in 2024, posting 48 receptions for 621 yards and six touchdowns. He also had an 8.72 Relative Athletic Score, a top-tier value among draft-eligible receivers. Despite going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, Sheppard signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being released on May 9 after a failed physical. Sheppard later competed in rookie tryouts for the Denver Broncos before signing with the Packers on Monday. The hope is that Sheppard's size (6 feet, 3 inches, 205 pounds) and playmaking ability can translate to the NFL level and land him a roster spot for the regular season. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 21, 2025, where it first appeared.

Broncos roster: DL Eyioma Uwazurike (No. 96) enters Year 2 post-suspension

Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fourth-year defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike, No. 96. Before the Broncos: Uwazurike (6-6, 316 pounds) got on NFL scouts' radar in 2019 after receiving an honorable mention All-Big 12 notice. He totaled 32 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 13 starts for the Cyclone that season. For an encore, Uwazurike earned an honorable mention notice again in 2020. Last season, he earned a first-team honors, posting 42 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and nine sacks in 13 games (10 starts). Broncos tenure: Uwazurike was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round (122nd overall) in the 2022 NFL draft. In 2022, Uwazurike spent most of the season on the practice squad before playing in eight games in the latter half of the year, where he was credited with 17 total tackles (11 solo, six assisted) and one pass deflection. In 2023, Uwazurike hit a rocky patch when he was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for gambling on NFL games, teammates and college football games that he participated in. As a result, he did not participate or have contact with the Broncos during 2023. In 2024, Uwazurike was reinstated by the league, and was given a second chance at life as a football player. Uwazurike had a comeback season, playing in four games, making 11 total tackles (three solo, eight assisted) and .5 sacks. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Backup or practice squad player. Uwazurike has faced his share of adversity, much of it self-inflicted. Now, he will be locked in a battle for being a backup with rookie Sai'vion Jones and Matt Henningsen. It remains to be seen who will win the battle. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Panthers sign CB Mello Dotson, waive CB MJ Devonshire

The Panthers swapped cornerbacks Friday. The team announced it has signed Mello Dotson and waived MJ Devonshire with an injury designation. The Raiders waived Dotson earlier this week. He had signed with Las Vegas as an undrafted free agent from Kansas. Dotson was a first-team All-Big 12 selection last year. During his college career, he intercepted 12 passes and returned four of them for touchdowns. Devonshire, a seventh-round pick of the Raiders in 2024, was claimed off waivers by the Panthers in April. He spent last season on the Raiders' practice squad before signing a futures deal in January.

Eagles dominate early projections in bold 2026 mock draft theory

A bold 2026 mock draft gives the Eagles even more firepower. It felt like it took all night for the Philadelphia Eagles to make their first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. That's because it did. No worries. Picking late is the cost of business for playing into February and winning a Super Bowl. That said, if you were to poll most Birds fans, they'd tell you they'd take the 32nd selection (or in this case, the 31st due to a trade) over a top-15 choice any day. Plus, the Eagles landed Jihaad Campbell this past April. No one is complaining about that decision. Fast forward to the present, and it's time for training camp. The process of building the 53-man roster has begun, but the NFL media simultaneously lives in the past, present, and future. Before Philadelphia could buckle those chinstraps, Pro Football Network was coming up with ideas for next April's draft picks. Eagles clean up in an early 2026 mock draft There's a balancing act that goes on in every NFL organization. We refer to it as roster building. Teams need a nice blend of youth and experience, including rookies, veterans, and both well-paid and inexpensive stars. Then, there's the year-long task of planning for next year. Eagles vice president and general manager Howie Roseman does his job better than anyone. In 2025, much of his team will be playing on expiring or one-year contracts. There will be losses, and as was the case this past offseason, free agency and the draft will help the franchise recoup for many of them. Philadelphia currently owns four picks in the first three rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft. They don't need any advice on how to spend them, but that won't stop any of us from providing some guidance. Here's what Pro Football Network suggested in their recent three-round mock draft. Philadelphia selects 32nd. It looks like they're predicting back-to-back Super Bowl wins! No one should be shocked to see offensive linemen mentioned. The Eagles are constantly building in the trenches. Seeing players from Cincinnati is always cool, as the Bearcats program has produced notable talent that has benefited the Philadelphia Eagles. Jason Kelce, Brent Celek, and Trent Cole all played for Cincinnati. Dontay Corleone earned First-team All-Big 12 honors there this past season. Last but not least, Carnell Tate is a 6-foot-3, 191-pound wide receiver who was part of the Ohio State Buckeyes' championship-winning team last season. Expect big things from him in their offense this season. Mock drafts aren't to be taken seriously. They also give the reader an idea about the team's needs and where prospects might be available. It's doubtful that Philadelphia will draft any of these guys. Still, it would be quite the coup if they did, and here's another thought for the road. There's a theory that the Eagles may earn a third-round draft compensatory pick as payment for losing Milton Williams this past offseason. It's still early, but that's another piece of good news to add to our lists as we move through the offseason.
