Davy Burke steps down as Roscommon manager

Davy Burke has opted to vacate the Roscommon hot seat after the conclusion of his three-year term as manager of the county's senior inter-county footballers. Burke, who became the youngest inter-county manager in history when he took the reigns at Wicklow as a 31-year-old in 2019, succeeded Anthony Cunningham as Rossies boss in October 2022. Confey native Burke also led his native Kildare to All-Ireland Under-20 glory in 2018. Roscommon bowed out of last year's All-Ireland at the quarter-final stage to eventual champions Armagh and, after sealing promotion from Division 2 in the league, failed to reach the All-Ireland series this year. In a statement released via Roscommon GAA, Burke said: After careful consideration, I have decided to step down as Roscommon senior football manager, bringing an end to my three-year term. "I would like to thank the Roscommon County Board, in particular county chairperson Brian Carroll for his unwavering support and loyalty through the highs and lows over the last three years. I appreciated it more than you will know." Brian Carroll said of the departing Burke: "I have witnessed first hand the effort, dedication and commitment Davy has put in since his appointment in October 2022. "I want to thank Davy most sincerely for everything he has done for Roscommon GAA. "We have had highs and lows over the three years but Davy's ambitions and goals for our players, supporters and our county was always to be the very best we could possibly be." Kerry warned they might not be 'properly prepared' for All-Ireland quarter-final

Lee Keegan believes Kerry might not be 'properly prepared' for their meeting with Armagh in the All-Ireland Football Championship this weekend. The former Mayo defender said that "Kerry's run to this stage hasn't been near as intensive, as Ulster folk won't be shy of telling them. But you'd fairly argue it hasn't properly prepared them for what's coming down the tracks this Sunday." The Sunday Game analyst also questioned the actions of David Clifford and Paul Geaney in the build up to the clash, where they requested their fans to show up in numbers at the quarter-final in Croke Park. He added to RTE: "Paul Geaney, last week, and David Clifford, this week, have made appeals for Kerry supporters to turn up in numbers. This is unusual enough talk coming from Kerry and probably indicative of the pressure they're under. "I know Jack O'Connor played up the impact the huge Armagh crowd had on the momentum of last year's semi-final, particularly when the game turned frenzied in extra-time. The wall of noise for every Armagh score was deafening and they can be intimidating." Despite this, he feels that Kerry will be very competitive in the match, saying: "So many people have written Kerry off in the last week and a half, most of them ex-Kerry players. I'd be wary of that talk. "With Kerry's array of attacking talent, they can catch fire at any time. But the big doubts surround Paudie Clifford and Seanie O'Shea. Paudie hasn't seen much game-time since getting harshly sent off in the Munster semi-final." Indeed, Paudie Clifford has been eased back into action, only seeing around 15 minutes in their last game against Cavan. It is reasonable however to not risk him after his injury woes. "Seanie's form has been hot and cold. Personally, I think he's devoting himself to too much donkey work. It's admirable but I feel he's more use to Kerry when he's focusing on attacking the opposition and putting their defence on the back foot. "Kerry have the raw material at their disposal. They can catch fire at any moment. But it's hard to trust their form when they're coming up against the All-Ireland champions, who are fresher, boast huge squad depth and have a very hard-nosed mentality." A bumper clash certainly awaits at Croker this Sunday.

GAA Podcast: Fizz of excitement as Football Championship comes to a head

As the All-Ireland Football Championship reaches the quarter-final stage, Jacqui Hurley and Rory O'Neill are joined by Enda McGinley and Tomás Ó Sé to preview a mouth-watering weekend of football. Tomás understand why Donegal and Jim McGuinness have made a big deal of the gap between the Louth game and this Saturday's meeting with Monaghan, but he knows the messaging is different at training. Monaghan come in as one of the form teams in the country but in need of a 'statement win' at Croke Park - Enda wonders if they truly believe they can win an All-Ireland. Tyrone, on the other hand, despite playing no better than Monaghan, will truly believe they can beat Dublin and claim Sam Maguire. The battle around the middle will be key in Saturday's second game, with Tomás suggesting Dessie Farrell's men were slow to adapt to how new rules affected kick-outs. Sunday's first match is Galway v Meath, and in Matthew Thompson Tomás reckons Galway have the best young footballer in the country. While Meath have shocked Dublin and Kerry this summer, Enda says both defeated team were 'flat' against the Royals and it will take a performance above and beyond what Robbie Brennan's men have done thus far if they're to take down a battle-hardened Galway. And finally to the clash of All-Ireland champions Armagh and Kerry. Despite the loss of their first choice midfield, Tomás gives his own county a real chance of causing an upset - if the middle eight perform to their best, the form of David Clifford will keep them in the game. All the better if they have Paul Geaney and Paudie Clifford fit and firing. For Enda, it will hinge on how Armagh's super-structured defence of the arc handles Kerry's multi-pronged attack.

Tyrone meet Dublin this weekend as the All-Ireland Football Championship reaches the quarter-final stage. Tyrone topped Group 1 ahead of Donegal, Cavan and Mayo to skip the preliminary quarter-finals. They accounted for Cavan last time out with a 0-31 to 0-18 win. Dublin have been steadily improving over the championship after their shock loss to Meath in the Leinster semi-final, but they seem close to their best. Whether that best is near their imperious spell in the 2010's remains to be seen though. They beat Cork in HQ in a bit of a battle last weekend to secure passage to the quarters, winning by three thanks to a late flurry. Tyrone won well the last time the two sides met in the final round of the league but ultimately slipped to Division 2 despite the 2-20 to 1-16 win. Here's what you need to know: The match takes place in Croke Park in Drumcondra, on Saturday June 28. The action is scheduled to get under way at 6:15pm. The match is not being shown live on television but it is being streamed on GAA+. Tyrone: 11/10 Draw: 7/1 Dublin: Evens

Meath-Galway TV info, throw-in time, date and more for All-Ireland quarter-final

Meath meet Galway in the All-Ireland Football Championship quarter-finals this weekend as crunch time begins in the SFC. Meath have slain giants so far in the championship, defeating Dublin in the Leinster semi-final before beating Kerry well in Portlaoise two weeks ago. Adding to their tally may be a tall order but they've done it before. Shane Walsh starred for Galway last time out in a 2-26 to 3-21 defeat of an impressive Down side in the preliminary quarter-finals in Newry. He unfortunately came off injured during the clash however and faces a battle to be fit for the clash. Their first championship meeting in fourteen years sees the third and fourth most decorated counties in football history lock horns again. Here's what you need to know: The match takes place in Croke Park in Drumcondra, on Sunday June 29. The action is scheduled to get under way at 1:45pm. The match is being shown live on RTÉ 2. Meath: 11/4 Draw: 8/1 Galway: 2/5
