Shocking Deadline Deal? MLB Insider Links Phillies To All-Star Outfielder
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Given how flat the Phillies were during last postseason, there's a good chance the front office is doubly aggressive on the trade market this year. Philadelphia could look to add a talented outfielder to help generate offense ahead of Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. ESPN's Jeff Passan recently linked the surging Phillies to a blockbuster trade for Gold Glove outfielder Steven Kwan from the Cleveland Guardians. Cox/Getty Images "An All-Star the past two years and Gold Glove winner in all three of his previous big league seasons, Kwan is a do-everything left fielder with elite bat-to-ball skills and two years of club control after 2025," Passan wrote. "Cleveland doesn't want to deal him, but with a dearth of available bats, the Guardians at the very least will listen to see whether teams are willing to blow them away with offers." The Guardians don't need to trade Kwan, but if they can go poach top pitching prospect Mick Abel, among other prospects, from the Phillies, it would be tough to justify holding onto him. The Phillies need to add more talent to their team in some capacity. Everybody seems to expect Philadelphia to target bullpen help. Besides that, the outfield is the biggest hole on the roster, and there might not be a better fit for this Phillies team than Kwan. Kwan could be placed alongside Trea Turner at the top of the lineup. Kwan and Turner could set the plate for the heavy hitters and create a nightmare lineup for pitchers to face in the postseason. Why Ongoing Alex Bregman Trade Rumors Make No Sense For Surging Red Sox
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Brian Burrows of Bo Sox Injection recently suggested the Boston Red Sox could look to trade superstar third baseman Alex Bregman if they end up as sellers at the trade deadline. "If the Red Sox truly clear house at the deadline, they have to think about moving Bregman," Burrows wrote. "Though reports say he's open to a long-term extension, if they can't work anything out, and can't guarantee he won't opt out of his contract, he could be finding a new home. He could garner multiple top 10 prospects, completely replenishing the players lost from the Crochet trade." Burrows isn't the only one making this suggestion, either. Over the last few weeks, Bregman has gained steam as a potential trade chip, but it doesn't make any sense for the Red Sox. ATLANTA, GA - JULY 14: Alex Bregman #2 of the Houston Astros talks to media during the All-Star Workout Day at Truist Park on July 14, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. ATLANTA, GA - JULY 14: Alex Bregman #2 of the Houston Astros talks to media during the All-Star Workout Day at Truist Park on July 14, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. Matthew Grimes Jr./As much as other teams in the league would like to acquire the star third baseman, there's almost no chance Boston will entertain an offer for him. Bregman's able to opt out of his contract at the end of the season, and if he continues to play as well as he is, it's expected that he'll opt out and chase a bigger deal. While this outcome is likely, it's not like the Red Sox would lose him in free agency without a fight. The Red Sox are bound to be one of the top teams in the Bregman sweepstakes if he lands back in free agency. But the team is winning right now, so it wouldn't make any sense to sell, even if he's going to leave at the end of the year. Boston is one of the hottest teams in baseball. Selling isn't going to be on their agenda as long as these winning ways continue over the next few weeks. More MLB: Red Sox's $21 Million Pitcher Listed As Potential Trade Chip Ahead Of Deadline
