‘Jacked' Christian McCaffrey Comeback Campaign Gets Major San Francisco 49ers Update

'Jacked' Christian McCaffrey Comeback Campaign Gets Major San Francisco 49ers Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Erstwhile superstar running back Christian McCaffrey was in 2024 active for just four games ... a downturn that adds to his reputation as a brilliant but "injury-prone'' All-Pro. Advertisement That cannot be ignored by the public or by the San Francisco 49ers. But the work ethic is "psycho''-level, his coach says. And the photo does not lie. Add it up and there is increasing optimism that "CMC" can return to an MVP-caliber level in 2025. As the 49ers prepare to roll into training camp, McCaffrey has spoken about his process in the gym. "I think this offseason I spent a lot of time kind of building back a base, starting from scratch," McCaffrey said. "So, a lot of it was rehab, and I wanted to put myself in a position where I didn't miss a day of OTAs and I could practice, play football again, be healthy and not miss a day. And I did that, and now we can kind of kick back up the training again. But I feel great." Advertisement McCaffrey, 29, has played less than 10 games in half of the seasons he's been in the league. He has had his fair share of rehab programs and detailed what he's learned most about how to recover. "I've had a lot of people tell me as you get older you need to do less. I think there's a middle ground with that statement," McCaffrey said. "For me, it's kind of a constant evaluation of where your body's at and what you need. "You put a lot of trust in other people -- your trainer, your treatment people, people at the facility. If you follow their plans and you like where it's going and you start to feel good, you're constantly evaluating where you're at and trusting the whole offseason process." McCaffrey has been one of the hardest working players during 49ers offseason activities, and that work ethic is being noticed by the leaders of the team. ...and by recent workout partners Luka McCaffrey (his brother) and Bijan Robinson of the Falcons ... And yeah, he looks pretty jacked. Advertisement Head coach Kyle Shanahan noted how McCaffrey's diligent rehab will be the determining factor in him returning to the All-Pro level he showed during his last full season in 2023. 'If I said it, I'd be making up because Christian is — I mean, he is a psycho in a good way and so like he does everything imaginable every single day,' Shanahan told reporters, via the team transcript. "Last year he couldn't because he was battling injury all last year. And this year he is healthy, so he is right back to being who he is always been and it's really fun to watch.' McCaffrey earned Offensive Player of the Year honors two seasons ago in powering the 49ers to the Super Bowl. Last year on the sidelines, the team was not nearly as successful. Advertisement There is a long road to go, but this update from McCaffrey is enough to make Niners fans forget about last season's faults and spark excitement for 2025. Jets' Sauce Gardner cracks CBS Sports' top-100 NFL players in 2025

The New York Jets are turning the page in 2025 but CBS Sports sees one building block on the roster and it's Sauce Gardner. The cornerback was the lone Jets player named to the outlet's top-100 players heading into the 2025 NFL season. Advertisement Overall, Gardner landed at No. 24. Gardner is the second-ranked corner behind the Denver Broncos' Patrick Surtain II at ninth. Gardner, 24, was one of New York's first-round picks in 2022. He went on to earn the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and two first-team, All-Pro nods. The player and team are talking an extension and those conversations seem positive. However, New York would feel most comfortable seeing pen-to-paper happen soon. CBS Sports' breakdown on Gardner can be found below: Gardner's play fell off some in 2024, much like a lot of Jets, but it didn't fall that much. He needs to tackle better at times, but there is no doubt he is an outstanding cover corner. Ravens' Kyle Hamilton Named to Prestigious List

Ravens' Kyle Hamilton Named to Prestigious List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It took just two seasons for the Baltimore Ravens to figure out how valuable their first-round pick in 2022 was. As the No. 14 overall selection in that draft, Notre Dame's Kyle Hamilton started just four games out of 16 appearances. He tallied 62 total tackles with 46 solo and four for loss. He added four QB hits and a forced fumble. Advertisement That caught the attention of the coaching staff. In 2023, the former Fighting Irish defender started 15 games in 15 appearances and upped his production. Entering 2025, he's just 24 years old and has two Pro Bowls under his belt, as well as a First Team All-Pro and a Second-Team All-Pro. That's why Hamilton appeared on CBS Sports' list of the top 25 players under the age of 25. "It's almost unbelievable now that Hamilton started just four games as a rookie, because the last two seasons, he's been all over the ball at every level of the field for the Ravens," Cody Benjamin wrote. "Need a timely sack? He can do it. Need a critical pass breakup? He's there. The Notre Dame product all but sets the standard for do-it-all safety play." Advertisement Hamilton's totals through three seasons are impressive, too. He's totaled 250 tackles with 186 solo and 18 for loss and added seven sacks, 15 QB hits and five interceptions. Hamilton is an anchor in the Ravens' secondary, and, at the age of just 24, could stay there for a while. Ravens Icon Justin Tucker's Agent Speaks Out On Major NFL Announcement

Ravens Icon Justin Tucker's Agent Speaks Out On Major NFL Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Baltimore Ravens finally made the decision, as kicker Justin Tucker was accused of sexual misconduct by several Baltimore-area massage therapists, to release the iconic All-Pro. Advertisement Now, the NFL has announced Tucker's punishment - and Tucker's side isn't very happy about it. Tucker, 35, is suspended without pay for the first 10 weeks of the 2025 season for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. In response, the following statement has been released by Tucker's representative Rob Roche ... "We are disappointed with the NFL's decision. Justin has always strived to carry himself in a way that would make his family and community proud. He stands by his previous statements. In order to put this difficult episode behind him and get back on the field as soon as possible, we have advised Justin to accept this resolution and close this matter. Advertisement "The people who know Justin best know his character and understand that while he remains fully committed to excellence as a football player, he is deeply dedicated to his most important lifetime roles as a father, husband, and friend.' In the league's press release, the suspension will take effect on roster cut day, August 26 and he will be eligible for reinstatement on November 11. Tucker is currently still a free agent. If he were to be signed by a team, he is able to serve his suspension under contract. He is able to communicate and try out for a club, and if he is signed, is able to attend training camp this offseason. Advertisement Six massage therapists have come forward, accusing Tucker of inappropriate behavior during sessions that took place between 2012 and 2016. The allegations include claims that Tucker exposed himself, made inappropriate contact, and left bodily fluids on massage tables. After the investigation had gotten underway, Tucker released a statement to address the allegations. "The allegations against me in The Baltimore Banner article about me are unequivocally false. Throughout my career as a professional athlete, I have always sought to conduct myself with the utmost professionalism," said Tucker. "I have never before been accused of misconduct of any kind, and I have never been accused of acting inappropriately in front of a massage therapist or during a massage therapy session or during other bodywork. I have never received any complaints from a massage therapist, have never been dismissed from a massage therapy or bodywork session, and have never been told that I was not welcome at any spa or other place of business." Advertisement Tucker - maybe the best kicker of his generation - is coming off the worst year of his career. He made a disastrous 73.3 percent of his field goal attempts (especially compared to his all-time best career average of 89.1 percent). He also missed more field goals between 40 and 49 yards than he had in any other season. With the 10th pick of the sixth round of the NFL Draft, the Ravens took Arizona kicker Tyler Loop, who has the inside track to be Tucker's replacement this season. Bucs Rumor Suggests New Contract for All-Pro Antoine Winfield

Bucs Rumor Suggests New Contract for All-Pro Antoine Winfield originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Despite quarterback and head coach changes over the last few years, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have maintained their status as a playoff contender. Advertisement Their young talent on both sides of the field is a big reason for that. One of their brightest stars is safety Antoine Winfield Jr. The former All-Pro has built a reputation as one of the best safeties in the game today. Winfield may be coming off a down season, but he wants to bounce back significantly. Tampa Bay needs to be careful with Winfield, though. The Minnesota product is 26 years old and under team control for the next two seasons. But... ESPN has called the numbers behind those final two years one of the most "player-friendly" for a safety in the league. "Winfield is the league's second-highest paid safety by average annual salary, just slightly behind [Kerby] Joseph. But the rest of the deal is great for Winfield in comparison," Dan Graziano wrote. "Winfield got a $20 million roster bonus in 2024 and fully guaranteed salaries of $4 million in 2024 and $21 million in 2025. Advertisement "He's sure to make $45 million over the first two years of the deal and would make $64.5 million over the first three if he stays in Tampa Bay. It's strong money, given the rest of the safety market." Let's call this a rumor for now. But … Tampa Bay will likely seek to restructure Winfield's contract following the 2025 season. His $27 million cap hit, scheduled for both 2026 and 2027, will make the situation difficult. If they can get the kind of All-Pro play they used to get earlier in his career, the cap hits won't be a hindrance. Anything less, though and the Buccaneers will be stuck between a rock and a hard place with Winfield.
