"Caitlin has benefited from the Steph Curry effect" - Matt Barnes explains why Caitlin Clark is incredibly popular

"Caitlin has benefited from the Steph Curry effect" - Matt Barnes explains why Caitlin Clark is incredibly popular originally appeared on Basketball Network. Indiana Fever All-Star guard Caitlin Clark is arguably the most popular player in the WNBA. Clark's arrival in the pro league has seen the interest in women's games grow dramatically. The WNBA has seen its attendance numbers increase since she joined the association and the figures continue to go up as Caitlin is in her second season. Listed at six feet tall and weighing 157 pounds, the slim-built Clark has an unassuming look and what she calls a goofy personality. But once she is on that court, she is as fiery and competitive as any player could be. She also has that ability to shoot the ball from way downtown, which All The Smoke's Matt Barnes claims is the key to her appeal. "I think Caitlin has benefited from the Steph Curry effect," said Barnes. "I think that's why there's a huge hype around what she's able to do because we haven't seen someone shoot the ball with the consistency and from the range that she's been shooting with. And that always excites people the same way it excited people when Steph came to the NBA." The female version of Steph Curry Steph Curry changed how basketball is played as he turned the 3-point shot from a mere accessory into a primary weapon that led his team to four NBA championships during an 8-year span from 2015 to 2022. At 6'2", Curry is one of the most relatable stars in the league because of his size, which makes his position seem more attainable to aspiring hoopers. Meanwhile, Clark was dubbed the female version of Curry while she was in Iowa. Not only was Caitlin a career 38 percent 3-point shooter in college, but she was also taking shots from the parking lot like Steph and consistently making them. Like Steph did for Davidson and the Golden State Warriors, Caitlin elevated the women's basketball program at Iowa, leading the Hawkeyes to the women's title game in back-to-back seasons in 2023 and 2024. And so when she came to the WNBA, the Caitlin hype followed her to the Indiana bad shot with them Curry and Clark have changed the dynamics of what are considered good or bad shots. Traditionally, taking 30-footers or logo 3-pointers is a no-no unless it's a last-second shot in a quarter. But both have made it a norm, at least for themselves, because of their uncanny ability to hit those shots. "No shot is a bad shot when you can shoot it as well as she can," Curry told ESPN in 2023. "When you watch them play, she just adds the element of surprise that you can't really game-plan for. Because it's so unseen in the sense of when she crosses half court, she's in her range." Interestingly, Clark has been struggling with 3-pointers this season at just 27.9 percent, and she is just a career 34.4 percent 3-point shooter in the WNBA. But that has not diminished her appeal. The Caitlin fever has spread to even sports card collectors, as a Clark Panini rookie card recently sold for $660,000, the highest amount ever paid for a female athlete sports story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Jul 28, 2025, where it first appeared.

Former Rockets teammate says Yao Ming had Nikola Jokic type skills but was held back

The post Former Rockets teammate says Yao Ming had Nikola Jokic type skills but was held back appeared first on ClutchPoints. Former NBA guard Cuttino Mobley recently shared that Hall of Famer Yao Ming possessed playmaking abilities similar to Nikola Jokic, but was limited by the offensive system employed during his time with the Houston Rockets. Advertisement Speaking on the latest episode of the All The Smoke podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Mobley reflected on his time with Yao in Houston and expressed that the 7-foot-6 center was more than just a dominant post scorer. 'What people don't understand about Yao. He could pass the ball, like Joker, he could've done that,' Mobley said. 'It's just the offense didn't. Say we would've had Rick Adelman, for a fact, you would've seen more of Yao Ming. Like that Chris Webber, that Vlade Divac, Brad Miller type of passing. He had all of it.' Mobley, who played alongside Ming from 2002 to 2004, pointed to coaching philosophies at the time as a major reason why Ming's full skill set was not on display. 'The only thing is, is that coach would stop us on the offense,' Mobley continued. 'Instead of letting us play on the offense, he played kind of that Pat Riley back in the day possession ball. So with 70 something possessions that's it. We're going to make this ugly. Where if you have talented individuals on the other side, now you're making us think. Offense isn't about thinking, it has to be more fluid.' Advertisement Cuttino Mobley says Yao Ming had Nikola Jokic-like skills but was held back by Rockets' system © Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports Yao played eight seasons with the Rockets after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2002 NBA Draft. During his career, he averaged 19.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 52.4% from the field across 486 appearances. He logged 32.5 minutes per game and was known for his soft shooting touch, size, and court awareness. Although foot and ankle injuries ultimately shortened his NBA tenure, Ming earned eight All-Star selections, was named to five All-NBA teams (including two Second Team honors), and made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2003. His impact extended beyond the stat sheet, helping globalize the NBA, particularly in China. Advertisement Yao's No. 11 jersey was retired by the Rockets in 2017, and he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016 alongside Shaquille O'Neal and Allen Iverson. Jokic, the current face of the Denver Nuggets and a three-time MVP, has become known for his elite passing, vision, and ability to run the offense from the center position. He was named Finals MVP in 2023 and has averaged 7.2 assists per game throughout his career. Jokic finished the 2024–25 season averaging a triple-double with 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.2 assists, and 1.8 steals while shooting 57.6% from the field and 41.7% from three across 70 games. Mobley's comments suggest that Yao may have had a similar skill profile, but played in an era and system that did not fully unlock those talents. Yao remains a central figure in Rockets history and continues to influence the game internationally as the president of the Chinese Basketball Association. "I Will Burn One Of You Hoes": Former NBA Champion Stephen Jackson Blasts His Team After First BIG3 Defeat

"I Will Burn One Of You Hoes": Former NBA Champion Stephen Jackson Blasts His Team After First BIG3 Defeat originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Former NBA champion and head coach of the BIG3 League team, the DMV Trilogy, Stephen Jackson did not hold back while blasting his team after their first loss of the season. After a 46-50 loss to the Houston Rig Hands, a video surfaced on the internet showing Jackson yelling at his players for their poor performance. He said: Advertisement "All gun sh*t, when somebody want to fight, you want somebody to grab. Same b***h a** n****s be at the hotel, begging me for shit. None of y'all wanna show out in front of these people." "One of you n****s is gonna get burned f***ing with me," he continued. "Google me, b***h. I will burn one of you hoes." Jackson's heated response has since gone viral on social media. The former NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs is more popularly known for his work as a host on the "All The Smoke" podcast with Matt Barnes. Jackson also had an impressive NBA career. Having spent 14 years in the league, the forward averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists for his career. Although he bounced around many teams, he established himself as a core player with the Indiana Pacers and the Spurs for being a reliable scorer off the bench. Advertisement Since retirement, the 47-year-old has taken to coaching in the BIG3 League, founded by legendary hip hop artist Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz. Jackson also had a brief stint as a player in the BIG3, starring for the Killer 3s. But after the 2021 season, he switched to a coaching role and joined the DMV Trilogy, guiding them to back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Dwight Howard And Lance Stephenson Engage In A Brawl At BIG3 Game Former NBA champion Dwight Howard recently made his debut for the LA Riot at the BIG3 League. In a game against the Miami 305, Howard was set to establish himself as the dominant force he was known to be in the NBA during his prime. Advertisement Unfortunately, the 305 had other plans. Featuring the duo of Lance Stephenson and Michael Beasley, Miami ran with a 50-44 win. Beasley even gave Howard a "Welcome to the League" moment by taunting him all game. Beasley's challenge was simply a gesture that has become particularly commonplace for the former NBA player. While the situation simply appeared to be a simple instance of aggressive basketball, matters hit a flashpoint when Howard and Stephenson got into a bit of a melee. Howard could be seen grabbing Stephenson and tossing him before officials and players intervened. The latter eventually pushed the LA big man to the ground while punches were being thrown. Advertisement While there is no official statement on what the next course of action is regarding this matter, it is safe to say that the BIG3 League remains an attractive source of entertainment for basketball fans. WNBA Scoring Legend Reveals True Feelings on Caitlin Clark

Ahead of the 2025 WNBA season opener, Hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper-Dyke joined Stephen Jackson on All The Smoke to offer high praise for Indiana Fever sensation Caitlin Clark. Clark, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, shattered records during her inaugural campaign, averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, and led the Fever to their first playoff berth since 2016 with a 20-20 finish. Cooper was the driving force behind the Houston Comets' dynasty in the league's infancy from 1997-2000. Cynthia Cooper-Dyke burst onto the WNBA scene in 1997, at age 34, as the WNBA's first league MVP while leading the Houston Comets to the inaugural championship in 1997.
