AU to lead evaluation of NEP-based edu across 8 states
Allahabad University (AU) has bagged a prestigious project from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) to assess the implementation and impact of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 across eight northern Indian states. With a total funding of ₹30 lakh, the two-year study will encompass Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. The research will primarily focus on the NEP's 'Panchkosha' model of holistic education, which emphasises five key dimensions of development: physical, mental, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional, shared officials. The study, led by Srijan Anant, assistant professor in the Department of Commerce and Principal Investigator of the project, aims to evaluate how the NEP's principles are being implemented at various levels of the education system through in-depth field surveys. The research will involve collaboration with experts from four prominent institutions: Prof Surya Rashmi Rawat (Central University of Himachal Pradesh), Prof Geeta Bhatt (University of Delhi), Prof Suneel Kumar (Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, University of Delhi) and the team from Allahabad University. 'The study will offer empirical insights into the practical application of NEP 2020 reforms—such as outcome-based learning, digital integration, inclusivity, and the integration of Indian knowledge systems. A key focus is the implementation of the Panchkosha framework, which draws on India's ancient educational traditions to foster holistic student development,' said Anant. As part of the project, field visits will be carried out at various schools, colleges, and universities. Researchers will conduct interviews with students, teachers, and parents to gather ground-level data. A comparative analysis of the educational policies and functioning of state education boards will also be undertaken to identify ways to better align current practices with the NEP's holistic approach. The study will engage nearly 3,000 stakeholders, including students, teachers, parents, institutional heads, and policymakers. It aims to assess the inclusivity and effectiveness of NEP 2020 across diverse educational settings and generate actionable policy recommendations. These insights are expected to support improvements in regional equity, infrastructure development, teacher training, and the empowerment of both students and parents, the research team noted.

Renowned Hindi satirist Gopal Chaturvedi dead
Lucknow: Renowned Hindi satirist and literary figure Gopal Chaturvedi passed away on Friday at the age of 84, just six days after the death of his wife Nisha Chaturvedi. Born in Lucknow in 1942, Chaturvedi later settled in Dewas. He completed his intermediate studies at Scindia College and graduated from Hamidia College, Bhopal, before pursuing his Master's in English Literature from Allahabad University. A prolific writer, Chaturvedi was known for his sharp wit and incisive social commentary. His notable works include 'Afsar Ki Maut', 'Aadmi Aur Gidd', 'Jugaadpur Ke Jugaadu', 'Dum Ki Wapsi', 'Ganga Se Gatar Tak', and 'Dhoop Ki Talash'. His contributions to Hindi literature were recognised with several prestigious awards, including Vyangshree, Akhil Bhartiye Bhasha Sammelam award, Yash Bharti award, and the Sharad Joshi award from the govt of Madhya Pradesh. "He couldn't bear the loss of my mother," said his daughter Swati Chaturvedi, a well-known journalist and author. The literary community mourned his loss, with noted poet Sarvesh Asthana remembering him as "a humble and gentle soul".

AU scientists use waste derivatives to make biomaterial that can cure bone ailments
1 2 3 Prayagraj: In a hope for those grappling with bone-related ailments, a group of scientists have developed a technique to regenerate bones through use of natural and waste-derived materials. Led by AU alumnus Amit Dubey and AU research scholar Aisha Tufail, the team has introduced a composite made from egg white, fish-derived gelatin, and rice husk nanosilica. This composite, called Bioactive Biphasic Calcium Phosphate-Egg White-Nanosilica-Gelatin (BESG), closely mimics natural bone and supports cell growth. "The laboratory tests have confirmed the biocompatibility, low toxicity, and effectiveness of BESG in promoting bone formation. This eco-friendly innovation offers a cost-effective alternative for treating bone injuries and conditions like osteoporosis," said Dubey, who is an alumnus of Allahabad University. "Once implanted, it acts like a supportive framework that allows the body's natural bone cells to grow over and inside it—just like how plants grow better when they have a trellis to climb on. Their work was published in ACS Applied Engineering Materials by the American Chemical Society recently. "By using locally available waste products, the technology presents a promising, accessible solution for communities with limited medical resources. BESG can serve as a bone scaffold or patch that integrates with the body, helping damaged bones heal more efficiently," said Dubey. What makes this research significant is its reliance on readily available and often discarded natural resources. "Our goal was to provide a sustainable and effective solution to the challenges of bone tissue regeneration. This research is not just a scientific leap; it's a real promise for our society," said Dubey, whose team also included researchers Edwina Sherley Felicita A, Veni Subramanyam S, and Marie Arockianathan P.

After DU, Allahabad University To Introduce 4-Year UG Courses
Last Updated: Allahabad University will launch four-year UG courses from 2025-26 under NEP 2020, offering flexible exits and honours options, similar to Delhi University's model Allahabad Central University is all set to roll out four-year undergraduate (UG) courses from the academic session 2025-26, similar to Delhi University. The move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and was approved in a recent Academic Council meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Sangeeta Srivastava. As per the new curriculum framework, the undergraduate course will be spread across eight semesters, fully adopting the semester system. Students will study three subjects in the initial years, two majors and one minor. From the third year onwards, the minor subject will be dropped, allowing students to focus solely on their major subjects. In the fourth year (seventh and eighth semesters), eligible students will have the opportunity to pursue Honours in one of the two major subjects. Meritorious students will also have the option to pursue Honours with Research. The new system offers flexibility, allowing students to exit with a certificate after one year, a diploma after two years, a degree after three years, and an honours degree after four years. Each semester will carry 20 mandatory credits, and the entire course will total 160 credits. Moreover, the university plans to introduce over 150 two-credit skill-based and optional courses under the NEP. Earlier, Allahabad University had already implemented integrated five-year courses such as BA-LLB, BTech-MTech, and BFA. Now, in the second phase of NEP implementation, all UG programmes under the Faculties of Arts, Science, and Commerce have been restructured to align with the NEP framework. AU preps for online PG, UG admissions for 2025 session
Prayagraj: Allahabad University is gearing up for admissions into its postgraduate (PG) programmes for academic session 2025-26. On Saturday, the admission cell held a key meeting at the university's admission building to discuss the process for nearly 60 PG courses. T his year, the university will conduct entire counselling process in online mode, streamlining admissions for thousands of aspirants across the country. Eligible candidates will need to register at after which they can complete the PG admission procedure through the university's official website at Department-wise seat details are also available on the portal. According to director Admission Cell, Prof JK Pati, the list of shortlisted candidates will be published on the e-counselling portal starting July 22. Candidates will be required to upload their documents and participate in online departmental counselling. Subsequently, merit lists will be prepared at the department level for various specialisations. Students applying for PG admissions must upload scanned copies of their Class 10, Class 12, and graduation certificates and mark sheets, along with a transfer certificate or gap certificate (if applicable). Importantly, applicants are also required to generate an Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) ID, as mandated by the new education policy. Meanwhile, undergraduate (UG) admissions at Allahabad University are also in full swing. Since registrations began on July 16, the university received a remarkable 32,442 applications in various UG programmes by Saturday night. Out of these, 15,972 candidates successfully paid the registration fee, marking a strong start to UG admission season. In a related development, Kulbhaskar Ashram PG College, under its Library Science Training Centre, announced admissions for the Certificate in Library Science (C-Lib) course for the 2025 session. Interested candidates who completed their Intermediate (Class 12) can apply. Application forms are available from July 15 to July 31 and can be collected and submitted daily between 4pm and 6pm at the training centre's office.
