Four teams pushing to sign Liverpool star
Chiesa Faces Liverpool Exit as Serie A Giants Circle for Italian Forward Federico Chiesa's Liverpool story appears to be drawing to a close, not with a roar, but with a quiet shuffling towards the departure gate. A season that promised so much has fizzled into uncertainty. As reported by Calciomercato, the Italy international was not included in Arne Slot's squad for the pre-season tour of Asia, a decision that speaks louder than any statement. Chiesa will not be facing Milan, nor will he be staking a claim for a role in Slot's evolving project. His omission reads like a verdict. Signed last summer from Juventus for a modest £12 million plus £3 million in bonuses, the 27-year-old was viewed as a low-risk, high-upside addition. A player who had once lit up Serie A with his explosive style, his dynamism, and his eye for the spectacular. At Liverpool, however, those sparks never caught fire. Fourteen appearances and just two goals, one in the League Cup and one in the FA Cup, underline a muted impact. Photo: IMAGO Serie A opens doors for a return Now, as Calciomercato detail, interest from Serie A is intensifying. The article suggests that Chiesa's return to Italy is not just a possibility, but a likely conclusion. Napoli are the first serious contenders. Antonio Conte is seeking to bolster his attacking options and sees Chiesa as a player who could provide cover and competition across both flanks. His ability to play on either wing fits with Conte's tactical needs, particularly with the likes of Matteo Politano, Noa Lang and David Neres already in the mix. Should Napoli's moves for Dan Ndoye and Ademola Lookman falter, Chiesa may become a priority. For Liverpool, that opens a potential route for an exit, possibly at a fee that balances their books and clears a non-homegrown spot in a now crowded squad. Milan links hint at Allegri reunion Milan are another side monitoring the situation closely. A potential reunion with Massimiliano Allegri could suit both parties. Chiesa's time under Allegri at Juventus was among his most productive, and with Rafael Leão, Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze all in the rotation, Milan are considering one more addition to offer versatility in attack. As Calciomercato notes, Noah Okafor's future could influence this, and should he move on, a slot opens up for Chiesa. Photo IMAGO Roma and Inter consider tactical fit Roma and Inter are also mentioned, though perhaps more cautiously. At Roma, Gian Piero Gasperini's expected 3-4-2-1 system could accommodate Chiesa as one of the two advanced midfielders behind the striker. A reunion with Paulo Dybala, with whom Chiesa shared promising spells at Juventus, would offer intrigue and attacking flair. Photo: IMAGO At Inter, the fit is less obvious. Under Simone Inzaghi, there was little room for Chiesa in the rigid 3-5-2 system. However, with Cristian Chivu now at the helm and exploring a 3-4-2-1 formation, opportunities could open. Still, the Nerazzurri are prioritising a move for Atalanta's Lookman, and interest in Chiesa, for now, remains tepid. Juventus return unlikely despite familiarity A return to Juventus would represent the romantic arc of Chiesa's career, but it appears unlikely. The report suggests that despite changes in the backroom and on the bench, Juventus are looking elsewhere, with Jadon Sancho emerging as the primary target for their right flank. Chiesa, deemed surplus by Thiago Motta and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli, remains a figure of the past rather than the future in Turin. Our View – EPL Index Analysis There is something quietly frustrating about Chiesa's Liverpool spell. Fans knew this was not the Chiesa of Euro 2020 when he arrived. The injuries, the inconsistency, the rotation. But there was always hope he could rediscover the pace, the movement and the cutting edge that made him one of Italy's most exciting talents. Instead, it has all been too safe. Fourteen games, flashes of quality, two goals that barely registered in the bigger picture. Being left out of the tour squad feels final. The message is clear: he is not part of the plan. And so the speculation begins. Napoli, Milan, Roma, Inter. All logical steps. All clubs where he could find rhythm, confidence and form. For Liverpool, this exit would be amicable. No bitterness. No failure. Just a player and a club who never quite clicked. If the fee is right, if the timing is right, Liverpool should move on. Slot is building something new. Chiesa, once a hope, now becomes a reminder that not every gamble pays off. And that is fine. Not all chapters need to end in glory.

Allegri aims to revive AC Milan with Modric as key signing
Massimiliano Allegri has pledged to bring AC Milan back to their former heights as he begins his second stint as manager of the struggling Italian giants. The club turned to Allegri after a dismal season under Sergio Conceicao, finishing eighth in Serie A and missing out on European football. 'The goal for this season is to return to the Champions League as a club like AC Milan has to play in Europe,' Allegri said during a press conference in Singapore, where Milan will face Arsenal in a pre-season friendly. 'This is the sole objective for me from the get-go. These are the games the team lives for.' Allegri, who previously managed Milan from 2010 to 2014, led the club to their first Serie A title in nearly a decade during his first season in charge. After a successful spell at Juventus, where he secured five consecutive league titles, he now faces the challenge of reviving a Milan side that has lost its way. 'It has been more than a decade since I first took charge of Milan. The situation is obviously different now. A lot has changed, not just in Milan but in the world of football,' he admitted. 'But the overall goal remains the same, and that is to get this club back to where it belongs.' Key to Allegri's plans is new signing Luka Modric, the 39-year-old Croatian midfielder who joined from Real Madrid. Despite his age, Modric's experience and leadership are seen as vital for Milan's rebuild. 'Modric is a proven champion who does not need any introduction. He is a role model not only from the discipline but technical perspective,' Allegri said. With the season approaching, Allegri's immediate focus is on restoring Milan's competitive edge, starting with their pre-season preparations. Fans will be hoping his return marks the beginning of a new era of success. - AFP

Allegri vows to restore AC Milan, bets on Modric
SINGAPORE: Massimiliano Allegri vowed Monday to rekindle AC Milan's former glory as he returned as manager to the faltering Italian giants for a second spell. The Rossoneri had turned to serial winner Allegri after the club slumped to its worst league finish in a decade – leading to Sergio Conceicao's axing after five miserable months in charge. "The goal for this season is to return to the Champions League as a club like AC Milan has to play in Europe," Allegri told reporters in Singapore, where his team will face Arsenal on Wednesday in a pre-season friendly. "This is the sole objective for me from the get-go. These are the games the team lives for. We're not going to look back, but we are looking forward to the future now," added the 57-year-old Italian. Milan ended the 2024-25 campaign in eighth place – missing out on European qualification – and fell short in the Coppa Italia final against Bologna. In the aftermath, Allegri was brought in to replace Conceicao at the helm at the club, which he previously managed from 2010 to 2014. Allegri won the Scudetto in his first season in charge of Milan – the club's first since 2004 – before enjoying a dominant spell at Juventus, where he clinched five straight Serie A titles. "It has been more than a decade since I first took charge of Milan. The situation is obviously different now. A lot has changed, not just in Milan but in the world of football," he said. "But the overall goal remains the same, and that is to get this club back to where it belongs, and that is the Champions League," said Allegri. He said he will look to the recent signing of Luka Modric from Real Madrid to restore Milan's status among Europe's elite, where they are the seven-time European champions. At 39, the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner still has plenty to offer, and Allegri will be counting on his wealth of experience and leadership to inspire the team. "Modric is a proven champion who does not need any introduction. He is a role model not only from the discipline but technical perspective," said Allegri. - AFP

AC Milan Boss Hails Modric: 'Top Player.. Technical Brilliance And Leadership'
Last Updated: AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri announced Luka Modric will join the team in August, missing the pre-season tour. AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri disclosed that Luka Modric will join the team in August, which is why he has been left out of the squad that traveled to Singapore for their first pre-season friendly. Modric joined the Serie A side after contributing to Real Madrid's journey to the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup. Consequently, he was omitted from the squad for their pre-season tour, which includes stops in Hong Kong and Perth after facing Arsenal on July 23 to play against Liverpool and Perth Glory. 'We expect him to join us in August. He's a top player who will add technical brilliance and leadership to the squad," said Allegri in the pre-game press conference. Who Is Luka Modric? Since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, Modric overcame a challenging start to become a legendary figure at Real Madrid. With nearly 600 appearances and almost 30 major trophies, including a record six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns, Modric's impact has been monumental. Allegri has returned to AC Milan, having previously managed the team for a four-year stint between 2010 and 2014, during which he led them to a Serie A title in 2010/11 and won the Italian Supercup the following year. Allegri's latest tenure as head coach was with Juventus from 2021 to 2024, marking his second stint with the team. In his first stint, he won five consecutive Serie A titles from 2014/15 to 2018/19 and guided the team to two Champions League finals. Milan reappointed Allegri after Conceicao's five-month tenure left the team without European football next season. The Italian coach is optimistic despite this setback, focusing on the positives. 'It's a different situation than it was 15 years ago. It's not only football that has changed, but the world in general. The positive aspect of not playing in the Champions League is that we'll have more time to work and build a team. The negative is that we're not playing on the big stage. But I'm a glass-half-full kind of guy, so we have time and the chance to work on qualifying. I'm confident in my players, because I think this is a talented group with a good mindset," he added. Massimiliano Allegri outlines goal to get Italian giants AC Milan back in Europe
AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri (right) and defender Fikayo Tomori taking questions from the media during a pre-match press conference at National Stadium on July 21. SINGAPORE – With seven Champions League titles and 19 Serie A crowns, AC Milan stand among the most successful football clubs in the world. But the Rossoneri's dip in recent years has taken some of the shine off their legacy. They finished eighth in the 2024-25 Serie A season and failed to qualify for Europe for the upcoming campaign, and were also knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage. So as Massimiliano Allegri returns to the San Siro after he was rehired as Milan's head coach in May to replace the sacked Sergio Conceicao, the Italian tactician has set an immediate target of returning to Europe. The last time Milan missed out on European competition was in 2019-20, when they were banned from Uefa tournaments for a season after breaching Financial Fair Play rules. 'The goal for this season must be to enter the Champions League. AC Milan has to play in Europe,' said Allegri, 57, through a translator at a pre-match press conference on July 21 at the National Stadium, where they will face Arsenal in a friendly on July 23 as part of the Singapore Festival of Football. 'A brand like AC Milan and the club of this level has to play in Europe, and that remains the well-defined objective from the very get-go, and it's important not only for the club on a sustainability basis but for Italian football as well.' He added that the squad has been 'learning new things and a new system' under Allegri as they gear up for their first competitive fixture of the season – a Coppa Italia first-round tie against Serie B outfit Bari on Aug 18. 'As the mister (Allegri) said, I think Milan last season wasn't what we wanted it to be. So this season has to be better. We're already looking forward to starting the season,' said Tomori, 27, who joined Milan from Chelsea in a permanent deal in 2021. 'Qualifying for the Champions League is obviously somewhere that Milan has to be.' Allegri, who led Milan to a Serie A title in 2011 during his first stint as their coach from 2010 to 2014, has enjoyed tremendous successes in two spells at Juventus. The Italian won five league titles and five Coppa Italia trophies with the Bianconeri while also guiding them to two Champions League finals. Reflecting on Milan's upcoming campaign without European competition, Allegri said he preferred to look at the situation as half full. 'Like everything in life, everything has two sides, the positive and the negative. The positive side is obviously that by playing once a week, you have more time to work as a team,' he said. 'On the negative side, we won't be playing the big games everyone would like to play and these are the games that the team live for.' While the team work collectively towards a return to their heyday, the coming campaign will also be an important one for players looking to impress their national selectors for the 2026 World Cup in North America. ST PHOTO: KEVIN LIM Tomori is desperate for his first taste of the showpiece competition after he was left out of England's Qatar 2022 squad by Gareth Southgate. He said: 'Every season is important but of course, but I think when it's a World Cup season, then things are a little bit different. Every player wants to pay for their country, every player wants to play in the World Cup. 'I know that if I do well for Milan, then that I have a good chance to make the squad. I spoke to (England manager Thomas) Tuchel... before the international break at the end of the season, and he just said that I need to just keep on doing what I am doing, keep on improving. 'I'm sure if I do well in Milan and Milan does well as a whole, then I will have a good chance to go. I have my eye on it, because I haven't been (to a World Cup) and yes, it will be really proud moment.'
