John Legend laments Kanye West's ‘devolution'

Bang Showbiz | Los Angeles John Legend is saddened by the 'devolution' of Kanye West. The 'All of Me' singer was once close friends with the 'Gold Digger' hitmaker but their bond has cooled during the past few years after the rapper's bizarre behaviour and controversial statements caused points of conflict in their relationship. John told The Times newspaper: 'I think he was very different back then. We were both very idealistic and had big dreams, and we shared a lot of the same goals.' 'He had so much optimism. It does seem, and I don't want to characterise him too much, it seems he's lost some of that optimism.' Legend – whose relationship with West's now-ex-wife Kim Kardashian was once so close that he and wife Chrissy Teigen used to go on double dates with them – doesn't understand how the 'Jesus Walks' rapper could turn into someone so unrecognisable. He said: 'He's definitely said things that are pretty inexcusable, and that's why I've distanced myself from him.' 'But I also know that he's not the whole of who he is. He's not just the sum of the things he says in public.' 'He's also been very open about his struggles with mental health, and I think that's something we should take seriously.'

John Legend performs to empty seats at Glasgow gig

A US popstar has been left red-faced after he came to perform in one of Scotland's biggest venues only to be met with empty seats. R&B singer John Legend played at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on Tuesday, but he wasn't welcomed by as many doting fans as he might have hoped. Video footage taken shortly before the gig started shows the venue, which has a maximum capacity of 14,300 people, looking rather sparse. The main floor area had been converted into seating, and multiple sections of the stalls were closed off – presumably because not enough tickets had been sold. To try and solve that problem, organisers started selling two tickets to the gig for the price of one. READ MORE: Scottish beer giant BrewDog launches new partnership with ... West Ham? John Legend's tour name raises eyebrows in Glasgow

A US pop superstar is heading to Glasgow soon as his only Scottish stop on a 20th anniversary world tour. But R&B singer John Legend's tour name is raising eyebrows in our part of the world. The Get Lifted tour comes to the OVO Hydro in Scotland's biggest city on May 27. But punters are questioning whether the All of Me singer is fully aware of the implications of that phrase for a Scottish audience. READ MORE: Scottish Labour by-election candidate 'can't string a sentence together' Times columnist Kenny Farquharson tweeted: 'I wonder if John Legend's management is aware of the puzzlement his tour name may cause in Glasgow.' Get Lifted refers to the title of Legend's debut studio album, released in 2005. But to a Glaswegian audience it might sound a bit more like they're being threatened with a night in the cells.
