Hydrogen-powered hypercar with almost zero emissions debuts in UK
The Alpine Alpenglow concept car was on display at the annual motoring event in West Sussex and is a one-off concept car, but both its hydrogen powertrain and styling are set to inspire future Alpine road cars Petrolheads were treated to the sight of a £3million zero-emission hypercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which roared into action for the first time on UK soil yesterday. Enthusiasts flocked to see the Alpine Alpenglow concept car at the iconic West Sussex motoring celebration. The striking vehicle operates on combusted hydrogen rather than traditional fuels or batteries – its emissions are almost non-existent. Though this Alpenglow model remains unique, it is paving the way for upcoming Alpine cars in both design and eco-friendly powertrain technology. Sporty aesthetics and a hybrid engine of French pedigree that mixes classic petrol with electric firepower are part of Alpine's ambitious plan for a line-up of new models valued north of the £1 million mark. Speaking about Alpine's innovation, Bruno Famin from Alpine Motorsports commented: "With the development of this brand new Hy6 V6 engine, we are demonstrating our commitment to hydrogen research, which could herald motorsport applications with high-performance levels. "The Alpenglow Hy6 concept is the perfect example of what is possible to achieve the essential step of reducing carbon emissions in motorsport." At Goodwood this year, an estimated 200,000 visitors had the opportunity to glimpse the future of racing with the high-octane spectacle of liquid hydrogen engines challenging the dominance of battery electric alternatives. The Alpenglow dazzled crowds when unveiled in 2022, serving as a vision for the trajectory of Alpine's automotive advancements. Building on the success of the first road-going prototype, powered by a 340bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine, the Alpenglow Hy6 now boasts an all-new powertrain that more than doubles its predecessor's output. At its core lies a revolutionary 3.5-litre V6 engine, designed in-house by Alpine to optimise hydrogen combustion. This results in an impressive 544kW (740bhp), equating to over 150kW/l (210bhp/l), and positioning the Alpenglow among the performance elite. The concept's Specular Blue carbon fibre bodywork has been reworked, showcasing more aggressive lines. The spoiler is more pronounced and visible from the front, while the shark-fin has grown in size, proudly displaying the Alpine logo, hydrogen's chemical formula, and an eye-catching magenta to blue gradient that represents its combustion process. Beneath the bonnet, F1-inspired methodologies have been employed to hone the engine's key performance components. Antony Villain, Alpine's VP of Design, noted: "The adaptation of this V6 is a technical challenge, highlighted for all to see in a redesigned rear section. "Various elements of the concept's design are evolving, sculpted by the aerodynamic imperatives implied by its new performance, while visually evoking both speed and the virtuous aspects of hydrogen."

Moser & Cie. recently launched a pair of super cool but very unexpected watches ahead of the Barcelona Formula 1 Grand Prix, with a little help from sponsored team, Alpine Motorsports. The first is the Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition, a skeletonised chronograph made using Agenhor's movement technology, and the second is Moser's first smartwatch in the Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition. The Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition is powered by the Agengraphe-based HMC 700 movement, a true spectacle of time-keeping watchmaking. The open working is insane, with a skeletonised rotor reminiscent of the Alpine A110's wheel rim. The Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition is the Maison's first smartwatch and boasts all of the practical features of the modern wearable. Boasting a stone dial and two independent tourbillons, the Double Tourbillon 'Landscape' is a noteworthy high-end piece of watchmaking that is as impressive as it is exclusive. Every element of this watch is exceptional, from the skilful hand finishing of the A&S8513 calibre to the radiating Côtes de Genève stripes and circular-grained main plate. Everywhere you look, there is a unique finish or remarkable component to take note of, and it isn't by chance. According to the watchmaker, the new timepiece's dual architecture pays homage to John Arnold, a pioneer of marine chronometry, who facilitated the calculation of longitude with his precision watches. With the two independent tourbillons, you can tell the time in two separate time zones. It's not a true GMT, but it can still perform to the same capacity as one. Now, would I dare to travel with this deep six-figure watch? Chances are, no. But in its obscurity lies its true appeal. It's a piece for those interested in the complexities of haute horlogerie. Clad in 3D carbon fibre with a matching carbon fibre bezel, it is really quite the spectacle. With the Square Bang Tourbillon 4-Day Power Reserve, we have some rather extensive open working, putting the four-day power reserve MHUB6023 calibre on full display. Importantly, the new release marks the first tourbillon in the Square Bang family, and to celebrate the occasion, the brand designed a bespoke case made entirely from carbon and measuring 42mm. The first in the collection, its 3D finish is created using a carbon composite, woven into vertical and horizontal lines. Julien Tornare, CEO of Hublot, said that the latest development was an important milestone in the Big Bang journey. 'Until now, advances in square watches have been rather timid, usually confined to the case alone. With the Square Bang Tourbillon 4-Day Power Reserve, we wanted to take the exercise to its logical conclusion, by designing a movement whose architecture is also fully right-angled,' Tornare said.T'he bridges are straight, clean and sharp, as if to protect a movement that always beats to the rhythm of a perfect circle, that of the Tourbillon, barrel and power reserve. The fusion is complete.' As the name suggests, the new Square Bang Tourbillon offers an extended power reserve of four days, with the indicator at nine o'clock counting down the remaining days and hours. Further, the openworked dial boasts a lot of contemporary movement architecture with a black on grey theme. Dots of colour from the balance jewels and power reserve indicator break up what is a very monochromatic colour palette. The watchmaker unveiled a new platinum Big Pilot's Watch Tourbillon Le Petit Prince, again paying homage to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's charming novel of the same name. It must be said, IWC is certainly on a roll. With the Big Pilot's Watch Tourbillon Le Petit Prince, we have some immense watchmaking masked only by the fact that the Big Pilot is innately utilitarian in nature. The Big Pilot's Watch Tourbillon Le Petit Prince's 60-second flying tourbillon, which sits at 6 o'clock and consists of 56 parts, is a marvel for the watchmaker. There is understated elegance here that is often overlooked in the tourbillon market, with watchmakers regularly jettisoning style for substance. With the Big Pilot's Watch 43 Tourbillon Le Petit Prince, IWC has not compromised on anything, with the platinum case combining technical brilliance with luxurious detail. The timepiece is powered by the IWC-manufactured 82905 calibre with a Pellaton winding system, which IWC confirmed is manufactured from 'virtually wear-free' zirconium oxide ceramic. And, in a fitting nod to the source material, the oscillating mass takes the shape of 'The Little Prince' standing on his asteroid B 612, which is covered by baobab plants.

Moser Unveils Limited Edition Duo In Collaboration With Alpine Motorsports
Moser has unveiled two limited-edition timepieces in partnership with Alpine Motorsports. However, the partnership between H. Moser & Cie. and Alpine Motorsports is anything but conventional. This collaboration, which began in 2024, emphasizes engineering excellence and shared innovation. This is indeed an unconventional collaboration with two very different watches - Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition, a high horology piece, and Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition, a purpose-built smart watch. The Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition is a mechanical chronograph that is meant to represent the spirit of Alpine racing. Designed in consultation with Alpine drivers, this watch features a skeletonized dial. The aesthetic choices, including bold PVD blue and white color evoke the aggressiveness of need for speed, and align with Alpine's branding. The design elements draw inspiration from the racetrack. According to Moser, V-shaped bridges visible through the dial pay homage to the triangulated suspensions of single-seater cars, while the central bridge mimics the shape of a driver's helmet. Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition is powered by impressive HMC 700 automatic skeleton movement, developed in collaboration with Agenhor. Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition comes with an integrated white rubber strap and is limited to 200 pieces. The second piece from Moser, Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition, is even more of a surprising announcement. Drivers Edition is purpose built for the engineers and mechanics to enhance communication and efficiency within the team, ensuring that every second counts during a race. This unique piece infuses technology with classic watchmaking. The watch features a silent black screen that activates with a simple touch, providing basic information such as GMT, split-seconds chronograph, and a perpetual calendar. However, the F1 mode includes countdowns to race starts and notifications for key moments throughout the season, making it an indispensable tool for the team and for the fans of the Alpine team. The Mechanics Edition has the familiar Streamliner case with a Funky Blue fumé dial. The watch is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, syncing via Bluetooth to provide real-time updates. With a power reserve of up to one year in time-only mode, this watch is engineered for longevity, standing out from other smart watches. The Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition comes with a blue rubber strap, matching the blue fumé dial. The watch is limited to 500 pieces. A note on how to purchase the watches: Moser explained that the watches are sold as a set that is limited to 200 pieces and the retail price is USD 70,000. However, if someone purchased 2024 Cylindrical Tourbillon Alpine, they could order the Mechanics Edition.
