‘Resident Evil: Requiem' Will Refocus On the Series' Past
After the series explored new, undead ground in the last two main games, Resident Evil: Requiem is going back to narrative threads from the franchise's past. In a recent PlayStation Blog interview, producer Masato Kumazawa talked about Requiem's timing as a game for the series' 30th anniversary. Where Ethan Winters' two games 'explored [the series'] broader world, Capcom wanted to 'return to a story that continues the overarching narrative rooted in Raccoon City and the secret machinations of the Umbrella Corporation.' Discounting the remakes of older games, both have been absent from the series for quite some time—the city was overrun with infected back in Resident Evil 2 and 3 and subsequently bombed, which led to Umbrella going bankrupt after it was found liable for the city's destruction. Resident Evil: Requiem is returns to the city nearly 30 years later and centers on Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Raccoon City survivor (and Resident Evil: Outbreak protagonist) Alyssa. Kumazawa said the team wanted a protagonist with personal ties to the city, which led them to the Ashcrofts. Alyssa has been dead for years, but Grace is still affected by the loss, and Kumazawa teased the game's subtitle would be fitting in more ways than one. '[It's] a requiem for Grace, and a requiem for all of the people who were caught up in the Raccoon City incident, to name but just a few examples,' he said. 'But once you complete the game, I believe you'll find even more levels of meaning for the subtitle.' Another reason Grace is getting the spotlight? Requiem is more horror-focused, and Capcom wanted someone who was relatable and a scaredy cat. In a video featuring the game's creative leads, director Koshi Nakanishi admitted they considered making RE2 protagonist Leon the lead of this game, but pivoted because he's 'quite a bad match for horror. He wouldn't jump at something like a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing.' That hasn't stopped fans from speculating that Capcom's bluffing and he'll be in Resident Evil: Requiem in some capacity, given the trip back to Raccoon City. We'll find out when (or maybe even before) the game releases February 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. Want more io9 news? Dog 'Broken Out' of Animal Shelter After 730 Days—Her Reaction Says It All
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A dog's two-year journey of living in the animal shelter finally came to an end after she was "broken out" and placed in a foster home. Waffles first arrived at an animal shelter 730 days ago, when she was about a year and a half old. She came in with her daughter after managing to escape a backyard breeder in the area, the shelter told foster parent Alyssa. Her pup has since been adopted, Alyssa told Newsweek. After two years, Waffles finally received a break from the loud, chaotic shelter environment thanks to Alyssa, also known as Reddit user u/dogluvr_1, who decided to foster her after seeing a Facebook post about the dog on June 25. Alyssa shared photos in yesterday's Reddit post on the subreddit r/velvethippos of the journey home with Waffles and her newfound freedom after leaving the shelter. The large dog happily sat in the back seat of the car. Every picture showed a smile plastered on her face. Waffles has been showered with endless toys and a very deserved pup cup since being picked up. In one photo, Waffles comfortably sat on a dog bed with all her new toys surrounding her. "She does love to jump with all fours off the ground when we have her toys to throw." Alyssa said that Waffles' new doggy siblings, Boba and Bambi, have been "very welcoming." So far, there have been "no problems" between the dogs. They've all been exchanging cuddles in the owner's king-sized bed. While Waffles is currently being fostered, Alyssa hopes she'll stay permanently. "We are considering adopting her; we just want to give her some more time to adjust and make sure everything is good with the dogs," she told Newsweek. "I just can't imagine how a dog-friendly, people-friendly dog who knows commands sat there without a family for that long." Reddit flooded the comment section with their congratulations. The post reached over 4,200 upvotes and 80 comments as of Wednesday. "So happy to see this. Thanks for giving waffles a chance. And thanks to the shelter for never giving up on him," wrote one Redditor. "Yay for sweet Waffles!!! It looks like they are already fitting in with the family!" another commenter said. A third person commented: "The bestest smile on the most patient of pibbles!!! Lots of love to Waffles." Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? Eight-year-old girl sets new lap record at world-famous motor circuit
A new pedal-powered lap record has been set at a world-famous motor circuit. Eight-year-old Alyssa from London completed the 3.8km Goodwood Motor Circuit in just 31 minutes and 51 seconds, smashing the previous record by 10 minutes. Alyssa completed the circuit in 31 minutes and 51 seconds. (Image: Austin Pedal Cars) Raising £7,800 for Mission Motorsport, the Forces' Motorsport Charity, Alyssa made her record-breaking run during the Meyrick Cox Day, held at the West Sussex track. Alyssa said: "That was the hardest and most fun thing I have ever done. "I kept pedalling as fast as I could, knowing each corner was getting me closer to the finish. "It was so hot, and the track seems so much longer against the clock, but I kept going as fast as my legs would go." Alyssa, who has previously raced in the Goodwood Revival Settrington Cup, completed the full circuit—3.5km longer than the traditional race. Alyssa trained for months in her local park before taking on the full circuit. (Image: Austin Pedal Cars) Austin Pedal Cars prepared her J40 for the challenge, ensuring it met Settrington Cup standards and could handle the demands of the full lap. James Cameron of Mission Motorsport praised her achievement. James said: "We are all so proud of the efforts of Alyssa on what was a very hot and humid day. "Her determination and perseverance was an inspiration to us all and not only did her efforts raise a huge amount for the charity, but it also perfectly encapsulated what the day is all about." She powered through the lap without stopping. (Image: Austin Pedal Cars) Meyrick Cox Day is an annual event organised by Mission Motorsport in memory of its late Chair of the Board of Trustees. The day offers servicemen and women, veterans, and their families an opportunity to enjoy recovery sport in a supportive environment. Alyssa trained for months in her local park before taking on the full circuit. She powered through the lap without stopping, cheered on by supporters as she navigated the corners and chicane. Her fundraising total will continue to grow ahead of the Goodwood Revival in September. All donations will go toward Mission Motorsport's ongoing work, supporting veterans with training, recovery, and new opportunities through motorsport. In related news, Austin Pedal Cars is running a competition for young enthusiasts. One winner will be given the chance to race a 1955 Austin J40 in the 2025 Settrington Cup at Goodwood Revival. The prize includes four weekend tickets, entry to both race heats, and Austin J40 merchandise. The winning family will also enjoy a familiarisation session at Goodwood Motor Circuit before the event.
