Amazon shoppers hailing this best-selling €37.99 pool as 'perfect for adults'
As Ireland basks in warm summer heat, people are seeking ways to cope with the soaring temperatures. As our summers continue to heat up it prompts many to search for methods to stay cool. For those eager to combat the sudden temperature surge and make the most of their gardens, a paddling pool could be an ideal purchase. Not only does it offer a refreshing way to keep cool if you have the space, but it can also provide endless hours of summer entertainment for children. is among numerous retailers offering a broad selection that can be swiftly delivered if your local shops are already sold out. But Amazon's pool isn't just for the little ones; adults can enjoy it too. The built-in seats and 'convenient' cup holders make supervising playtime a bit more comfortable, according to Amazon, reports the Mirror. Loads of punters are heaping praise on the pool in the reviews. One chuffed customer shared: "We bought this as a good compromise between a tiny kiddies paddling pool and a big sturdy pool. Happily fits a couple of adults and a few kids. Husband loves the cup holder. I think he may have spent more time in the pool than the kids!". Another happy swimmer posted: "Best paddling pool we've had, love the little seats and headrests and cup holders." And a third penned: "Love this pool. It's great for cooling off in the summer heat." But it wasn't all smooth sailing. A disgruntled buyer reported that the pool "goes down after an hour" while another cautioned it was "prone to punctures". Adding to the gripes, a third remarked: "Easy to set up, started to fill it up and the top section had deflated in 10 mins, so couldn't be used. It is a good size and design, just a shame didn't get to use it." Most reviews are glowing, with one buyer commenting: "Didn't take long to inflate using a foot pump. It's been up six days now and is still fully inflated. Great pool, would fit four easily, although there are only two seats/cushions. But it's perfect for me. Lovely to cool off in with a glass of red on a hot sunny day." Another chuffed customer quipped: "This should not be shared with children! I used this all summer in my tiny garden - so comfortable- perfect for sunbathing with a cocktail."

Almost a third of shoppers feel less financially secure now
Almost a third of Irish shoppers feel less financially secure now compared to the start of the year, according to new research from KPMG. The latest KPMG Next Gen Retail Survey also found that over half say getting the best price is the main priority for them when deciding where to shop. The survey was conducted by Red C between 3 - 9 April 2025, after US tariff announcements on 2 April. The research highlights significant financial pressure that Irish consumers are under, and a risk of further consumer price pressure as the impact of tariffs take effect. "Financial uncertainty could be compounded by increased trade headwinds depending on the form of the threatened tariff changes," said Head of Consumer, Retail & Manufacturing at KPMG David O'Kelly. "This dynamic creates a clear challenge to Ireland's retailers to optimise their supply chains and cost structures to maintain competitiveness. The retail sector has adapted to significant change in the past and no doubt will use the tools available to pivot again." Over half (54%) of those surveyed said they are buying less items to save money and modify their household budgets, an increase from 50% in October 2024. Mr O'Kelly said the younger cohort (18-24 year olds) were very price focused when it came to seeking out the best price or value for money. "Price is the number one thing going for young people going shopping," said Mr O'Kelly. "Then my own cohort, middle-aged with family as you can imagine with inflation and food inflation, that's a cohort that has seen the weekly bill go up quite a bit, they shop around for deals too. "What's interesting though if you look into that, they tend to look for more recurring value with store cards or loyalty cards as opposed to the younger cohort who tend to be less brand loyal, they just buy whatever's cheapest." Consumer behaviour shows little change, with physical stores continuing to be the preferred channel for essential categories. A significant 85% of Irish adults still purchase groceries primarily in-store. Nearly 3 in 5 (59%) think the experience of shopping in-person will never be matched by online shopping. Despite this, online shopping continues to grow, with 50% of respondents considering it generally cheaper than in-store options, compared to 51% last year. The online shopping landscape is also being shaped by new entrants. Notably, 1 in 5 report they will shop online more often due to the launch of in March, a figure that rises to 42% among 18-24-year-olds.

US' Amazon's net sales in Q1 2025 up 10% on US & international growth
American e-commerce hub has recorded net sales of $155.7 billion in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025 ended March 31, an increase of 10 per cent year-over-year (YoY), excluding the $1.4 billion unfavourable impact from YoY changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter. The operating income of the company increased to $18.4 billion in the first quarter, compared with $15.3 billion in first quarter 2024. has reported net sales of $155.7 billion in Q1 2025, up 10 per cent YoY. Operating income rose to $18.4 billion, and net income surged to $17.1 billion. Amazon expanded with a $4 billion rural delivery investment in US and introduced new AI-driven shopping features. For Q2 2025, it expects sales of $159â€'$164 billion and operating income between $13â€'$17.5 billion. The North America segment sales increased 8 per cent (YoY) to $92.9 billion, and international sales increased 5 per cent YoY to $33.5 billion or increase of 8 per cent excluding changes in foreign exchange rates, Amazon said in a press release. North America segment operating income was $5.8 billion, and international segment operating income was $1.0 billion. The net income increased to $17.1 billion in Q1, or $1.59 per diluted share, compared with $10.4 billion, or $0.98 per diluted share, in Q1 2024. The operating cash flow increased 15 per cent to $113.9 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared with $99.1 billion for the trailing twelve months ended March 31, 2024. 'We are pleased with the start to 2025, especially our pace of innovation and progress in continuing to improve customer experiences,' said Andy Jassy, president and chief executive officer (CEO), Amazon . The company has announced a $4 billion investment through 2026 to expand its rural delivery network, aiming to speed up deliveries in less populated regions in US. It also launched for Ireland, offering over 200 million products, competitive prices, and local prime membership. The company also introduced 'Saks on Amazon' for luxury fashion and beauty from brands like Dolce & Gabbana and Balmain. Additionally, it launched 'Interests', using generative AI to connect customers with items matching their passions and hobbies. New shopping features in the Amazon app now allow users to discover products from other brands' websites, including a new 'Buy for Me' option for seamless purchases. For the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, Amazon expects net sales to be between $159.0 billion and $164.0 billion, or to grow between 7 per cent and 11 per cent compared with Q2 2024. This guidance anticipates an unfavourable impact of approximately 10 basis points from foreign exchange rates, added the release.
