HUNDREDS of military personnel, drones and dogs have been deployed in a search for a missing army soldier. Alex Cairnie, 30, a sergeant in the Queen's Royal Hussars regiment, was last seen at around noon on July 6 leaving Tidworth camp in Wiltshire. 2 Amesbury Police are now asking people to come forward if they have seen Alex, from Perham Down. He is described as around 5ft 7 tall, of an athletic build with mousy brown hair and a beard. Military personnel have been deployed in the Tidworth area, working alongside specially trained volunteers and officers. Police dogs have also been sent out, and a drone is using thermal imaging technology to check local woodland from above. Amesbury Police stated: "We are very concerned for his welfare. "He is thought to have been wearing a light coloured t-shirt and black/grey trousers. "If you see him, or know of his whereabouts, please contact us on 999 quoting log 214 of today's date." Among those joining the search as a volunteer is a team organised by Drew Short, from DS rescue and recovery. He wrote: "We've got a search and rescue dog along with 3 trucks were more than happy to give up our time and money. "We won't stop looking for you until you are found by someone. "We're all really hoping you are ok and please reach out to someone."

Missing soldier Alex Cairnie was last sighted walking around a Tesco near to his military base, CCTV footage has revealed. The sergeant in the Queen's Royal Hussars regiment, 30, was spotted shopping at the supermarket in Tidworth, Wiltshire at around 11am on Sunday. That same morning, the soldier was seen at his army camp around a mile away from the shop, his last appearance at the base. Hundreds of military personnel and volunteers are currently searching for the soldier and Amesbury Police are asking people to come forward if they have seen him. Sgt Cairnie, from Perham Down, is described as around 5ft 7ins tall, with an athletic build, mousy brown hair and a beard. The sergeant is believed to have been wearing a grey sweatshirt and dark grey outdoor trousers with black knee patches when he went missing. Police dogs have also been sent out as part of the search, while a drone is using thermal imaging technology to check local woodland from above.
