N.S. man charged for driving e-bike into traffic while impaired: police
A photo of the Amherst Police Department on July 3, 2024. (Alana Pickrell/CTV News) Police in Amherst, N.S., say they arrested a man after he drove into traffic on an e-bike while impaired. An off-duty officer with the Amherst Police Department saw a man driving an e-bike without a helmet just before 7 p.m. on June 23. Police say the man also appeared to be weaving back and forth on the road in front of vehicles and several of them had to pull over to the side. The officer approached the man, who allegedly showed signs of intoxication. They then took the man off the bike and called police. The bike driver was arrested and taken to the police station where he gave breath tests, which he reportedly failed. Ryan Ripley of Amherst has been charged with: operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol operation of a conveyance while over 80mg% operation of a vehicle while prohibited from driving The 42-year-old was held and remanded into custody. Police say this was because he has a history of impaired driving convictions and driving while prohibited charges. Ripley appeared in court on June 25 and was released on conditions. Large police presence in Amherst early Thursday morning

(Courtesy: Wade Perry) A large police presence could be seen outside a home in Amherst, N.S., early Thursday morning. The RCMP, including its Emergency Response Team, and the Amherst Police Department executed a search warrant related to an ongoing investigation on Spring Street around 5 a.m. The street was closed between Highway 2 (Albion Street) and Croft Street. People were asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Police are on Spring St., in #Amherst, executing a search warrant in relation to an ongoing investigation. Spring St. is closed between Hwy 2 and Croft St. Avoid the area to allow officers to do their work. At this time, there's no risk to public safety. — RCMP Nova Scotia (@RCMPNS) June 19, 2025 People said they were also on nearby Douglas Avenue as part of their investigation and there was no risk to public safety. 'You will see an increased number of police officers and police equipment in the area and travel in these areas may be restricted while the operations are underway,' read a social media post from Amherst police. 'Police want to advise the public that these operations are being completed to ensure the safety of Cumberland County residents and there is no risk to the public.' Spring Street reopened to traffic around 6:15 a.m. Power was temporarily turned off in the area during the police operation. It has since been restored. Man, 32, dies after single-vehicle rollover in Amherst, N.S.

The Amherst police and fire departments responded to the single-vehicle rollover on West Victoria Street, near the intersection with Hickman Street, shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday. 'Several bystanders and witnesses were on scene attempting to render aid and provide assistance,' said the Amherst Police Department in a news release. 'Shortly after first responders arrived, the lone occupant and driver of the vehicle died as a result of his injuries.' The victim's identity has not been released. Police say some streets in the area were closed Tuesday morning while an RCMP reconstructionist was on scene. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact the Amherst Police Department at 667-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Portion of Ridge Lea Road, North Bailey Avenue to close starting Monday
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A portion of Ridge Lea Road and North Bailey Avenue between the driveway of Lowe's and Romney Drive will be closed to all traffic starting Monday, Amherst police announced. The closure will go through Friday, June 6. Moncton man who allegedly stole RCMP car in N.B. and drove it to N.S. arrested

(CTV News Regina) A Moncton man who allegedly stole an RCMP vehicle in New Brunswick and drove it to Nova Scotia last week has been charged with more than 20 offences. Cumberland County District RCMP and Amherst Police Department officers responded to a report of a stolen RCMP vehicle entering Nova Scotia around 2:32 p.m. on May 16 according to a news release. Police tried to stop the vehicle on Highway 2 in Upper Nappan, but the driver fled towards Amherst Point on Southhampton Road. Officers used a spike belt on that road, damaging the vehicle. The suspect travelled westbound on Highway 104 before officers stopped the vehicle near the Fort Lawrence overpass around 2:49 p.m. and arrested him. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was allegedly stolen while an RCMP officer responded to a report of an 'unwanted person' at a Sackville, N.B., hotel. Kyle Douglas Smith, 37, was charged with several offences in Nova Scotia, including: theft of a motor vehicle possession of firearms possession of property obtained by crime impaired operation dangerous operation mischief He is also facing charges in New Brunswick. Smith appeared in Amherst Provincial Court on May 21 and was remanded into custody. He will return to court on June 16.
