2 Delhi auto-rickshaw drivers held for beating to death a man over vehicle theft

The police arrested two men on Thursday in connection with the murder of a man who was allegedly thrashed to death last month for the theft of an auto-rickshaw in South West Delhi's R K Puram. The arrested have been identified as Sushil and Amit, both of whom are auto-rickshaw drivers, the police said. Earlier, the police had arrested three other auto-rickshaw drivers —Manjeet Chawla, Abhishek Shukla, Anil Kumar, and Aman — who were part of a gang that forcibly took the victim, Raj Kumar, to the Hanuman Mazdoor Camp in R K Puram and brutally assaulted him. Raj Kumar succumbed to his injuries at Safdarjung Hospital on June 2. According to the police, Shukla reported the theft of his auto-rickshaw from near Hanuman Mazdoor Camp at R K Puram police station on May 30. Two days later, Chawla, an acquaintance of Shukla, spotted the stolen vehicle being driven by a man later identified as Raj Kumar at a CNG station on Ring Road in Sarojini Nagar. 'When Raj Kumar tried to flee, Chawla, along with other auto-rickshaw drivers, managed to detain him. Chawla then informed Sushil, a cousin of the auto-rickshaw's owner, who arrived at the scene with Amit and some other men. The group took Raj Kumar to the Hanuman Mazdoor Camp, where he was allegedly beaten severely. After he lost consciousness, the victim was left at the spot,' said an officer. Later in the day, Raj Kumar's son was informed, and he shifted his father to Safdarjung Hospital. According to Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West, the police arrested Manjeet Chawla, Abhishek Shukla, Anil Kumar, and Aman based on Raj Kumar's son's statement and CCTV footage. 'On the basis of the MLC (medico-legal case), information was received at RK Puram police station, and a case was registered under relevant sections of law against unknown persons. The arrested men revealed that Sushil and Amit were also involved in the crime, but both were absconding,' said the DCP. After Raj Kumar succumbed to injuries on June 2, the police added Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatitya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS) to the case and registered a second First Information Report (FIR) under sections 105 and 3(5) (common intention). The police team subsequently deployed informers, conducted technical and manual surveillance, and carried out field operations to trace the absconding accused, the officer said. On July 24, the police received a tip-off that the suspects were in RK Puram, and a trap was laid to nab Sushil and Amit. At Amit's instance, the stolen TSR was also recovered.

One of the finest playback singers in India was none other than Kishore Kumar. From Babul Ka Ghar to Panna Ki Tamanna Hai, Kumar gifted the nation with some of its most iconic songs. Kishore Kumar was not only a soulful singer but also a talented actor, composer, director, and producer. While Kishore Kumar's professional life was marked by continuous highs, his personal life occasionally witnessed jarring realities that nearly cost him his life. When Kishore Kumar Discovered an Earth-Shattering Truth In a recent conversation with Radio Nasha, Amit Kumar shared that in 1981, his father Kishore Kumar was elated, eagerly preparing to marry a girl from Kolkata. The wedding was planned as a grand affair, with the entire Bollywood fraternity on the guest list. However, just ten days before the ceremony, the family was struck by shocking news that turned everything upside down. According to Amit, the girl's family was well-known in Kolkata, and the marriage had been arranged. While everything was in place — wedding cards printed and celebrations underway — just ten days before the wedding, everything came to a halt when Kishore's family discovered that the bride-to-be was already married. Amit said, 'The thing was, this woman was already married. We got to know about this just ten days before the wedding, the cards were already printed.' Kishore Kumar's Health Was Adversely Affected Before this devastating revelation, Kishore had planned to get his son married and then move back to his hometown, Khandwa, to live a peaceful life. However, the incident left him deeply hurt. Amit recalled, 'Dad said, 'Do whatever you want to do. After that, you are getting married, you will get settled. I will move to Khandwa, and you guys can come and visit me.'' In the same interview, Amit Kumar recounted the painful episode of his father suffering a heart attack. He explained how Kishore Kumar's health began to deteriorate following the wedding fiasco. Kishore was unable to cope with the emotional devastation caused by the betrayal, ultimately leading to his heart attack. Though the singer recovered from the attack, his health never returned to normal. The emotional distress took a toll on him. Despite continuing to work, his health and overall appearance reportedly changed.
