Mohiniyattam researcher Amith K's ‘Tribute to Chinnammu Amma' recital seeks to stir conversations on 'class' and the classical
For decades, Mohiniyattam has been presented through a 'classical' lens — polished, codified, and Brahminised. And all the while, it has often obscured the realities of those who shaped its earlier iterations. Mohiniyattam dancer, choreographer and researcher Amith K always felt that gap, especially while looking back to trace the beginnings of this art form. A PhD graduate from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Amith has always been interested in exploring the nuanced intersections of caste, culture, gender, and history within Kerala's performing arts. His latest project ventures deeper, into the forgotten lineage of women practitioners whose contributions have been sidelined or erased in dominant narratives. 'When I started focusing on the women practitioners in Kerala, I realised how many gaps exist in Mohiniyattam's recorded history,' Amith explains. 'Even at Kerala Kalamandalam, where the form was institutionalised, the stories we hear about early Mohiniyattam are vague at best. Nobody talks about who the women dancers really were or why their names disappeared.'

Police to probe women who bailed out Urang
Kottayam: Police were shocked to find out that Amith Urang , the accused in the Thiruvathukkal double murder case , was bailed out by two women who had no relationship with him, in another case earlier this month. District police chief Shahul Hameed told reporters that those who release criminals on bail will be investigated. He said that police will collect the details of the two women. He has given directive to investigate those who secure bail for accused persons. He also said that those who bail out accused people should ensure that they know them, or else they will have to suffer for their actions in the future. Hameed also said that those who employ workers should do so only after proper verification. In the case of Amith, he along with another person stayed in Vijayakumar 's lodge on his way to Bengaluru in Feb last year. Vijayakumar, who happened to meet him, offered a job in his auditorium and house without verifying the identity of Amith. After working for around six-seven months, he left for his native place along with his wife after his salary was pending for over 20 days. Vijayakumar recalled Amith and he rejoined work. However, he left the job again over salary payment issues. This time, he returned in a few days and stole the mobile of Vijayakumar and transferred some amount from his account to his own account. Vijayakumar alerted police and the amount was put on hold. Vijayakumar filed a case, and the police registered an FIR and arrested him. He was remanded in this case for over five months, and he was bailed out by two Malayali women earlier this month in this case. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Google Brain Co-Founder Andrew Ng, Recommends: Read These 5 Books And Turn Your Life Around Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo Funeral of murdered couple tomorrow The funeral of Vijayakumar, the owner of Indraprastham Auditorium , and his wife Meera Vijayakumar, who were murdered by Amith will be held on their residential premises at 3pm on Sunday.
