A New AMITYVILLE Movie Coming From BARBARIAN and HEART EYES Producers — GeekTyrant

Joseph and Vanessa Winter, the dynamic duo behind the viral 2022 hit Deadstream , are set to bring their unique horror sensibilities to a brand-new Amityville movie. This fresh take on the infamous haunted house story is being produced by the same powerhouse teams behind Barbarian and Heart Eyes. Don't expect the typical Amityville story here, though. While the 1979 Amityville Horror (and its subsequent sequels) is widely known for telling the story of the Lutz family and their terrifying experiences in a house steeped in supernatural lore, this new film won't follow that familiar script. Instead, the Winters will offer up their own original twist, focusing on the real-life paranormal events behind the legends surrounding the infamous house at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York. This new film won't touch on the notorious DeFeo murders or the Lutz family, which were central to the original Amityville Horror film and its inspiration. Instead, Amityville will explore the house itself, diving into the ghostly history tied to its dark reputation. If you're going to do another Amityville movie, this is the direction to take it. The film is set to offer an entirely different perspective on the location that has captivated the public's imagination for decades. According to Deadline, the movie will 'offer a fresh look at the notorious Amityville house itself… with a legend situated in the public domain.' The Winters' debut feature, Deadstream , was a fun blend of horror and humor that earned praise for its inventive approach to found-footage filmmaking. If their work on Deadstream and their segment 'To Hell and Back' from V/H/S/99 is any indication, fans can expect a creative and fun ride with their take on the Amityville legend. With production aiming for late 2025, this film is already fast-tracked. Given the team's talent, horror enthusiasts are eager to see how this reimagining of a classic will unfold.

Beloved Horror Movie Getting A Remake Almost 50 Years Later

The horror genre contains numerous classics that have terrified audiences for generations. Naturally, many of these classics are revisited for newer viewers, and that happens to be the case with one beloved horror movie. This particular horror movie is receiving a remake of sorts from a pair of popular filmmakers. The two filmmakers, Joseph and Vanessa Winter, are a married couple that previously crafted the found footage horror movie Deadstream . However, following the success of that particular endeavor, they're now headed in a very different direction for their next horror entry. This movie isn't exactly a traditional remake, and it seems to exist outside of the rights for the original horror film franchise. The new film will actually be an original tale inspired by the supernatural allegations surrounding the house, and neither the DeFeo murders nor the Lutz family will factor into the plot. As shared via Deadline: 'The genre maestros at BoulderLight Pictures ( Barbarian ) and Divide/Conquer ( Heart Eyes ) are teaming on Amityville , a radical new spin on the famed haunted house story for a new generation.' The two studios behind this project have a history of successes within the horror genre, and as such, they're teaming up with the writer and director team of Joseph and Vanessa Winter to unofficially remake The Amityville Horror – now simply-titled Amityville . Additionally, it's been shared that Raphael Margules & J.D. Lifshitz will produce for BoulderLight, alongside Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. Other details regarding the project have yet to be revealed, and the project has yet to hit any studios but they want to have production ready by the fourth quarter of this year. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Amityville as we have them. With so many Amityville films having been released over the years, it'll be nice if this new interpretation can strike a chord with longtime fans of the property in addition to new viewers.

New "Amityville" Movie in Works

Yara Sameh BoulderLight Pictures (Barbarian) and Divide/Conquer (Heart Eyes) are teaming on Amityville, a radical new spin on the famed haunted house story for a new generation. Joseph and Vanessa Winter, the married writer-director duo behind the excellent SXSW found footage horror movie "Deadstream", are set to direct from their own script. Plot details are under wraps. Raphael Margules & J.D. Lifshitz will produce for BoulderLight, alongside Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. Given that BoulderLight has been under a first-look deal with New Line since 2023, that will be the filmmakers' first stop with the material, though it's not yet been exposed to studios. Producers are looking to fast-track the film, with Q4 2025 being targeted for production. While you're probably familiar with the Amityville Horror film franchise, going back to the the late '70s, and 1977's instant bestseller of a book from Jay Anson, this film has nothing to do with any of that IP. It's roots are instead in the famed real-life paranormal story behind those stories, with the film offering a fresh look at the notorious Amityville house itself on 112 Ocean Avenue itself, and a legend situated in the public domain. That tale begins in 1974, when Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents and four siblings in their home at 112 Ocean in Amityville, New York. A year or so after the horrific crime, George and Kathy Lutz, along with their three children, moved into the house, unaware of its dark past. Shortly after settling in, they claimed to experience a series of unsettling paranormal phenomena — among them, unexplained noises, cold spots, foul odors, and sightings of strange apparitions. After 28 days, the family fled the house, unable to endure the alleged supernatural occurrences any longer. Stuart Rosenberg directed the original Amityville Horror movie, starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder, which grossed over $86 million against a modest budget and has spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs over the course of decades, making for one of horror's most recognizable franchises. Joseph and Vanessa Winter are coming off their feature debut with "Deadstream," which premiered to critical acclaim at SXSW in 2022, with Joseph also starring, and was released by Shudder. They are also known for their segment 'To Hell and Back' for V/H/S/99, which had its world premiere at TIFF the same year. The pair produce their films under their banner, Winterspectre Entertainment. Soon to see the Warner Bros release of Zach Cregger's sophomore feature, Weapons — the mysterious New Line pic that's one of the most anticipated of the year in the genre space — BoulderLight Pictures previously teamed with Cregger on his breakout horror hit "Barbarian". They're also known for their work on titles like Drew Hancock's sci-fi thriller "Companion," "The Vigil," "Becky," Anna Kendrick's Netflix thriller "Woman of the Hour," and Andrew DeYoung's hit A24 comedy "Friendship", among others. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Arts & Culture Hawass Foundation Launches 1st Course to Teach Ancient Egyptian Language Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

Movie Tea: Nick Frost Gears Up To Be HBO's Hagrid; Joseph & Vanessa Winter To Create New 'Amityville' Movie

There's nothing like the classics – but why not remake them for a new generation who never got to experience the original? From everyone's favourite prophesied wizard, to the tale of a haunted house that shocked a nation – here's the lowdown on two upcoming movies that will send you down memory lane! First Look At New Hagrid In HBO 'Harry Potter' Series If you're in the ballpark of being 20 to 40 years old, you probably remember having the 'Harry Potter' franchise being a part of your childhood. Be it the novels or the beloved cinematic adaptation, it goes without saying that you have come across the Wizarding World in some shape or form, including the upcoming HBO series, the news of which has swept the world. HBO is now working on introducing the story of The Boy Who Lived and his friends to the next generation. For that reason, the premium television series is hard at work when it comes to looking for the next crew to bring these characters to life and, recently, news has spread that the company has just found its Hagrid in the form of Nick Frost! You can even see him in costume with the official Instagram post below! That's right! The decorated actor and popular comedian will be portraying everyone's favourite half-giant! For those who are unaware or in need of a refresher, Hagrid is the loveable gatekeeper to Hogwarts and the first to welcome Harry into the world of magic. He is also the first to explain Harry's ancestry, divulging the central fact that he is a wizard, beginning a deep, almost parental-like bond between the two. Moving forward, Nick Frost will be taking care of this version of the Chosen One in the form of Dominic McLaughlin. Of course, he will be joining other fresh faces such as Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), and many more. Being the second adaptation to stem from the same franchise, with the first one being extremely popular, Frost has some massive shoes to fill, both literally and figuratively, as he will be stepping in for the late Robbie Coltrane. However, with his acting chops and his big-man-big-heart attitude, we can easily see him rise up to the challenge and be the gatekeeper we know and love! You'll be able to catch him and the rest of the magical crew when the series premieres in 2027. Joseph & Vanessa Winter Teaming Up To Create New Amityville Movie In a movie market that is filled with cheap jump scare movies, it pays to be innovative. When it comes to films, people are always looking for the next movie that will shake up the status quo, or at least challenge it, and that is sure to usher in a new era of movies. It's one thing to be a trendsetter, but when you inject a fresh idea into the world of cinema that catches fire, the audience will almost never forget you! That is the case of Joseph and Vanessa Winter, a married writer-director duo behind the SXSW found footage horror movie 'Deadstream'. Following this genre-defining film receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and moviegoers alike, the couple are once again working together on a brand new project. The only difference is that they will be revisiting old yet familiar territory with an iconic IP – the 'Amityville Horror' franchise! In a way… Though you may be familiar with the film franchise that dominated the late 70s, as well as the 1977 bestseller novel by Jay Anson, this upcoming movie will have no relation to the previous entries that we are all familiar with. How is that? First, we must explain what the original franchise looked like. With that being said, we can expect a retelling of Ronald DeFeo Jr., the mass murderer who killed his father, mother, two brothers, and two sisters in the infamous house. A year after the crime, George and Kathy Lutz moved into the home along with their three children – all unaware of its dark past. Shortly thereafter, the family reported unsettling paranormal phenomena, such as unexplained noises, cold spots, foul odours, and sightings of strange apparitions. After only 28 days, the family left the house because they could no longer put up with the purported paranormal activity. The key difference in this move is that, according to Deadline's report, neither the DeFeo nor the Lutz story will be a factor in their interpretation of 'Amityville Horror'. This is not only a bold move to break away from a major continuity, but also offers a refreshing look at the infamous Amityville house itself. Of course, with that news, everyone is now intrigued about what's in store for us – but the plot of this new story is buried under lock and key, and a tight one at that! What we do know is that, aside from the Winter couple writing and directing the movie, Raphael Margules & J.D. Lifshitz will produce for BoulderLight, alongside Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. If that hasn't clued you in yet, this movie will be a joint venture with BoulderLight Pictures as well as Divide/Conquer, two emerging horror heavy-hitters that were responsible for 'Barbarian' and 'Heart Eyes', respectively. Being masters of the found footage genre, as proven by their work in 'Deadstream', we're absolutely curious to see how this reimagining of an iconic horror piece can be brought back for a modern audience. With production scheduled for Q4 of 2025, we'll keep you posted on whatever comes next for this exciting yet horrifying revisit. Source: Deadline, Variety
