‘There's no tiff'! Trainer reacts to Kia Joorabchian removing record £4.6m buy from stable
The Amo Racing principal moved several of his string away from Ralph Beckett, including a filly by Frankel who was the most expensive yearling sold at auction in Europe last year Top trainer Ralph Beckett has reacted to football agent Kia Joorabchian removing several horses from his stable, insisting, 'There's no tiff.' Amo Racing principal Joorabchian has spent millions on bloodstock to fulfil ambitions to build a team capable of competing with the biggest powers in horse racing, including Coolmore and Godolphin. At last autumn's thoroughbred yearling sales he spent £8 million on the opening day of the Tattersalls Book 1 auction on three new signings, including £4.6m on a filly by super stallion Frankel. The Frankel filly was put into training with last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe-winning trainer Ralph Beckett but was recently transferred to the yard of Kevin Philippart de Foy, who is now in charge of the ex-Sir Michael Stoute Newmarket stables which are owned by Amo, along with several others. Last year's Irish Oaks winner You Got To Me, who has raced once since bought by Amo for £5 million, remains in training with Beckett. Joorabchian took ten horses away from Beckett four years ago during Glorious Goodwood when the owner said the pair were 'not seeing eye to eye'. The latest transfer of the Frankel filly, who had been named Partying, follows the switching of Ghostwriter, bought for £2m before Royal Ascot, who has also joined Philippart de Foy from Clive Cox. Beckett, speaking about the moves to ITV Racing, said: 'There's no tiff. Moving unraced two-year-olds midway through the season is unusual but Kia is an unusual individual. 'When we split four years ago at this meeting, at that moment I was happy to see them go. They went at my instigation that time. Then he sent me a yearling. I said I'd take one, then all of a sudden I end up with six.' He continued, 'So there is no fall out, no tiff. Kia's Kia, we move on.' Beckett added he would welcome 'one or two' Amo Racing horses in the future, but not 'six or seven'. Joorabchian, who has admitted 2025 has been disappointing so far, saw his team on the scoresheet at Goodwood when Aylin, jointly owned by Al Shaqab Racing, won a maiden fillies' stakes on Thursday. The Karl Burke-trained filly had been a £630,000 purchase last year. On Saturday the team will be represented in the US when Tiberius Thunder tackles the Grade 1 Saratoga Derby Invitational. Frankie Dettori has been booked for the mount.

The Amo Racing supremo has admitted enduring a disappointing 2025 so far and is pinning his hopes on the Adrian Murray-trained Tiberius Thunder at Saratoga Kia Joorabchian has booked Frankie Dettori to try to turn his 2025 fortunes around. The Amo Racing supremo has endured a disappointing year to date with his team's biggest success so far coming from Commonwealth Cup runner-up Arizona Blaze in a Group 2 race this month. Joorabchian, who has ambitions to challenge racing superpowers Coolmore and Godolphin, has been a major buyer at the thoroughbred sales. In June on the eve of Royal Ascot he spent £2 million to acquire Ghostwriter who finished third in the Hardwicke Stakes on his debut for Amo Racing but was withdrawn before his next appearance after getting upset and injuring himself in the preliminaries. Ghostwriter has since been switched from trainer Clive Cox to Freemason Lodge in Newmarket, the former Sir Michael Stoute yard now owned by Amo Racing. Kevin Philippart de Foy took over training at the stables in July as Amo's number one trainer. Joorabchian owned up to the struggles after Arizona Blaze's win at the Curragh under David Egan for trainer Adrian Murray in an interview with RacingTV. He said: 'It's been unfortunate. We've had a lot of bad luck this year. Right before Royal Ascot we had a couple of our bigger two-year-olds get injured. We really haven't seen the majority of our horses come out yet. Find out more here. 'We've got our trainer in Freemason now. He's only just started and we are very lucky to have him. It was really the missing piece of the puzzle for us. 'Going forward now the team is getting more together. David is doing an incredible job with us and he's extended. We are looking forward to the next 18 months being somewhat more successful than the last five.' On Saturday Amo Racing are set to be represented by Tiberius Thunder in the £550,000 Saratoga Derby Invitational at Saratoga. The three-year-old colt, trained by Murray, finished fourth in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. The mount will be taken by Frankie Dettori, who rode his last winner in Britain before he relocated to the US on Amo Racing star King Of Steel when he captured the Champion Stakes at Ascot in 2023. Murray told Mirror Racing: 'We always try to get the best available and when you go over there it helps to have someone who knows the track. 'Tiberius Thunder was one of five or six to run really good races at Royal Ascot. He's a fair horse and we think he has a big chance.'

The Belgian has an intercontinental background given his mum was a trainer in France and he worked for John Oxx in Ireland, Criquette Head-Maarek in France, Christophe Clement in America and James Fanshawe in Newmarket. While his future is going to be largely Flat-based as the principal trainer for Amo Racing at Sir Michael Stoute's former yard, he has shown his versatility by winning three in a row with D Day Arvalenreeva, who heads for the Unibet Same Race Multi Summer Handicap Hurdle. 'She's in very good shape, delighted with the filly. She's done very little wrong since switching to handicaps,' said De Foy. 'This race has been a target for a long time and the faster (the ground) the better for her. 'Obviously she's a course and distance winner, it's a big step up in grade, but I couldn't be happier with the way she's going into the race.' Olly Murphy's Sir Galahad has an even better record, winning four out of four since joining from James Ferguson. 'He's been trained for the race, he needed the extra run to qualify, but he's in good form, looks progressive and he's got an unusual profile,' said Murphy. 'He's on an upward curve and is full of confidence. He's taken to hurdles really well, he's got confidence since taking a hurdle and with a bit of luck, he'll run very well.' Fergal O'Brien's Castel Gandolfo won the race last year and got back to winning ways over course and distance last month. 'We went more or less the same route. I think he's run in it the last four years so it was always a plan to run it,' said O'Brien. 'We ran him at Bangor and Johnny (Burke, jockey) said 'he's just a totally different horse going right-handed', especially right-handed with a rail, so he said he feels much better at Market Rasen than he does anywhere else. Right-handed around Rasen does suit him.' O'Brien also runs Oslo off bottom weight, the mount of Liam Harrison. 'Oslo is fine. I'd like him to take a step forward, he's been running very well for us on the Flat, he got brought down at Bangor last year and I'm not sure if he's got over that yet when it comes to jumping hurdles,' he said. 'We'd like to see him to finish off his races a bit better, and if he does, he could be a player as well. 'They are both good, they will try their best and fingers crossed.'
