KUALA LUMPUR: A trader was fined RM500 by the Ampang Magistrate's Court for negligence after failing to take his injured friend to the hospital, leading to the victim's death. Oon Tien Yue, 37, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 336 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of three months' jail, a RM500 fine, or both. The incident occurred between June 20 and June 22 at a house in Pandan Perdana, Ampang. The victim, e-hailing driver Law Mun How, 37, had been severely injured and was left unattended in Oon's living room. Investigations revealed that Law had been sleeping in a car outside Oon's house for a week before being brought inside but was never taken for medical treatment. Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Ramanathan Alias Ashwin prosecuted the case, while Oon was unrepresented. Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top imposed the maximum fine, which Oon paid immediately. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: A trader has been slapped with a maximum fine of RM500 by the Ampang Magistrate's Court here for failing to take his critically injured friend to a hospital, resulting in the victim's death. Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top meted out the fine on Oon Tien Yue, 37, who then paid the fine. Oon was charged with acting negligently by endangering a human life in not seeking treatment for his friend, e-hailing driver, Law Mun How, 37, who was critically injured. The offence was committed at a house in Pandan Perdana, Ampang, near here, between 10.33am on June 20 and 7.50pm on June 22. The charge, under Section 336 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail sentence of three months or a fine of up to RM500, or both upon conviction. Based on the facts of the case, Law, who was severely injured in an assault, had been sleeping in the car in front of Oon's house for a week since June 14. On June 20, Oon brought Law into the house but left him in the living room without sending him for treatment. The investigation found that Oon was negligent in leaving Law to die. – Bernama

Indonesian man charged with trafficking 20kg of meth in Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian labourer was charged in the Ampang Magistrate's Court today with trafficking over 20 kilogrammes of methamphetamine last month. Munzir Abdurrahman, 50, nodded when the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Normaizan Rahim. However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Munzir was charged with trafficking 20,850 grammes (20.85 kilogrammes) of methamphetamine at the parking lot of a shopping mall in Taman Melawati here at 12.38 pm on 22 June. The charge was framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 strokes if not sentenced to death upon conviction. The court fixed 3 October for case mention to allow for the submission of the chemical report. Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Kirthana appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. On 25 June, the media reported that an Indonesian man was arrested at a shopping mall while walking with a canvas bag. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said an inspection of the bag revealed a black plastic package containing 20 plastic packets, each filled with a substance believed to be methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM80,000.

Malaysian Kong Sien Mee, 57, and the three Singaporeans – Quek Kien Seng, 45, Tristan Chew Jin Zhong, 25, and Ivan Tan Zhi Xuan, 31, nodded when the charge was read out to them before Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top. However, no plea was recorded from all the accused as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court, Bernama reported. The four were jointly charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 with trafficking 9420.2 ml of cocaine at the exit of a hotel here at 11.45am last June 19. They face the death sentence or life imprisonment, and if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The court set Sept 8 for mention and submission of the chemist's report. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Ramanathan Alias ​​Ashwin, while the three Singaporeans were represented by lawyer Ille Maryam Yusnawannie. Kong was unrepresented. Meanwhile in Putrajaya, the Court of Appeal upheld the death sentence imposed on a man who murdered his nine-year-old daughter in 2018. A three-member bench consisting of Justices Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, Azman Abdullah and Azmi Ariffin dismissed an appeal by Mohammad Abdullah Mohamed against his conviction and sentence by the High Court. Deputy public prosecutor Datin Asmah Musa, appearing for the prosecution, and Mohammad Abdullah's lawyer Afifuddin Ahmad Hafifi, confirmed the court's decision to Bernama. Asmah said Justice Azmi, who delivered the court's decision, said that while the Abolition of Mandatory Death Penalty Act 2023 provides discretionary sentencing between 30 and 40 years, the court found the death sentence was appropriate after considering the aggravated and mitigating factors. According to the facts of the case, Mohammad Abdullah had instructed Nur Aina Nabihah and her other siblings to do 500 push-ups and sit-ups as punishment for failing to perform prayers. When his daughter became too weak to continue, he assaulted her.

Sexual assault: Tahfiz student placed on 2-year good behaviour bond

The Ampang Magistrate's Court has bound over a tahfiz student, who pleaded guilty to committing physical sexual assault on a child in Hulu Langat last year, on a two-year good behaviour bond. Magistrate Normaizan Rahim made the order and imposed a bail of RM3,000 after examining the boy's probation report, which was submitted by the Social Welfare Department, at today's sentencing hearing, held in camera.
