BSF recovers two drones and heroin along Punjab border in separate incidents
Tarn Taran/Fazilka (Punjab) [India], June 30 (ANI): Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered two rogue drones and a packet of heroin in two separate incidents along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab. The recoveries were made following actionable intelligence provided by the BSF's Intelligence Wing. In the first incident, BSF troops, in collaboration with the Punjab Police, conducted an extensive search and successfully recovered a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone from a farming field near the village of Kalash in the Tarn Taran district, the BSF Punjab Frontier said in a statement. In the second incident, during the early hours of Monday, BSF personnel recovered another drone--a DJI Air 3--along with a packet of suspected heroin weighing 460 grams in wet condition. The seizure was made from a field located ahead of the border fence near Chak Bazida village in Fazilka district. Apart from this, Amritsar Commissionerate Police, with the support of Border BSF and Rajasthan Police, dismantled a major international drug cartel operated by a Pakistan-based smuggler and a Canada-based handler and recovered a huge consignment of heroin from near the International Border in Barmer, Rajasthan, a Police official said on Monday. In a post on X, DGP Punjab police Gaurav Yadav said, 'In a massive crackdown, #Amritsar Commissionerate Police, with the support of BSF and Rajasthan Police, dismantles a major international drug cartel operated by Pak-based smuggler Tanveer Shah and Canada based handler Joban Kaler and recovers a huge consignment of 60.302 Kg Heroin from near the International Border in Barmer, Rajasthan.' Earlier, Punjab Police, marking 120 days since Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign to eliminate the drug menace, arrested 114 drug smugglers and recovered 4.1 kg of heroin along with Rs 9.6 lakh in drug proceeds on Sunday. This brings the total number of smugglers apprehended under the initiative to 19,735. The operation, ordered by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, was carried out simultaneously across all 28 police districts of the state. Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla reported that over 180 police teams--comprising more than 1,100 personnel and supervised by 85 gazetted officers--raided 367 locations, registered 77 first information reports (FIRs) and checked 399 suspicious persons during the day-long drive. Under the campaign's three-pronged Enforcement, De-addiction and Prevention (EDP) strategy, Punjab Police also convinced 54 individuals to enter de-addiction and rehabilitation programs. In a parallel effort, police inspected 332 pharmaceutical shops across six districts--Commissionerate Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, Jalandhar Rural, Kapurthala and Rupnagar--to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent the sale of intoxicant or habit-forming drugs. International drug cartel busted, 60 kg heroin seized from Barmer
Chandigarh: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Amritsar Commissionerate Police, with the support of Border Security Force (BSF) and Rajasthan Police, has busted a major international drug cartel being operated by Pakistan-based smuggler Tanveer Shah and Canada-based handler Joban Kaler, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday. A huge consignment of 60.302 kg of heroin was recovered from near the International Border in Barmer in Rajasthan. The operation has led to the arrest of at least nine people, including smugglers, traffickers and hawala operators from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir, said the DGP. Those arrested have been identified as Gagandeep Singh (23), Jashanpreet Singh (20), Gursahib Singh (25), Rajeev Panjgotra (29), Somnath (62), Prashotam Singh (50), Kulwinder Singh (24), Rajinder Kaur (42) and one hawala operator. DGP Yadav said preliminary investigations have revealed the drug cartel was being operated by Pakistan-based smuggler Tanveer Shah and Canada-based smuggler Joban Kaler with the help of local kingpin Gursahib Singh, who was already lodged in Goindwal Sahib Jail, from where he was running the network. His phone has been recovered by jail authorities, and his production warrant was obtained for a probe into Canada-Pakistan linkages, the DGP said. Sharing more details, Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the operation began after Gursahib Singh was arrested last month with one kg of heroin from Chheharta. Despite being in jail, accused Gursahib operated through his nephew Jashanpreet Singh and associate Gagandeep Singh, who were arrested with 102 gm heroin. Their interrogation led to the huge 60 kg heroin consignment in Barmer, he said. He said during the investigation, the hawala network used for routing drug money has also been exposed with the arrest of a hawala operator. The Commissioner of Police said the probe has also revealed that drugs were being smuggled from across the Indo-Pak border and routed through Rajasthan to Punjab, with further local distribution channels. Further working on backward linkages, five more accused associated with Tanveer Shah of Pakistan were also identified, and raids are being conducted to nab them, he said.
