Aurangabad lad tops CA Final, two from city bag AIR 3 & 4
Mumbai: Aurangabad woke up to a reason to celebrate as Rajan Kabra, son of a chartered accountant, emerged as the national topper in the CA Final examination. Not far behind was Kolkata's Nishtha Bothra, followed by Manav Shah from Mumbai's NM College of Ghatkopar, who clinched the third spot. At all India rank 4 was Mumbai's Suhani Maheshwari. In the Intermediate exam, the list of achievers stretched across geographies — Mumbai's Disha Gokhru and Aurangabad's Sandeep Devidan shared the second rank, while Yamish Jain (Jaipur) and Nilay Dangi (Udaipur) tied for third. For the first time, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India declared the results of all three levels — Foundation, Intermediate, and Final — on the same day. Toppers for the foundation examination include Vrinda Agarwal of Ghaziabad, Mumbai's Yadnesh Narkar as AIR 2, and Thane's Shardul Vichare as rank 3. Group 1 saw a 22.4% pass rate, Group 2 fared slightly better at 26.4%, but only 18.8% managed to clear both — a statistic that improved as the ICAI altered its examination strategy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? Here, Kabra pieced together his preparation, seeking mentorship from different faculty members for each subject. Kabra earlier topped the country at the Intermediate level too. Close on his heels was Manav Shah, a student of NM College in Mumbai's Ghatkopar. "Confidence and consistency" was his formula for success. Both Kabra and Shah cracked the exam in their first attempt. The Intermediate exams saw 1.6 lakh candidates take the exam. In Group 1, just 14.7% made it through; Group 2 had a clearance of 21.6%. But the true grit lay in the 13.2% who cleared both groups. In the case of those starting out, 96,538 candidates took the first exam — the foundation exam — and 15.09% cleared it. To some, it may seem like a stumble at the starting line. To CA Jinesh Shah, a member of the ICAI's western region academic committee, it's a sign that the institute is deliberately tightening the funnel. "The 15% pass rate at the foundation level shows that ICAI is filtering at the entry stage," he said, urging aspirants to stick to the ICAI's own study material and mock exams. Manoj Jariwala, senior faculty at JK Shah Classes, said, "The ICAI has shifted gears. Like IIT-JEE or NEET, students must now prepare intensely for the entry level itself." He concluded, "In CA, we can now say — entry is difficult, exit is easy."

FIR against 3 of shipping firm after maritime job aspirants forced to do menial jobs in Iran
An FIR was filed against three employees of an Andheri-based shipping company on Monday after it emerged that at least four men from different states were allegedly defrauded by the firm by promising them high-paying shipping jobs in Dubai but leaving them stranded doing menial labour work in Iran, allegedly asking them to 'work there or die'. According to a complaint filed in February by Rameshwar Gupta (25), from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, he came to Mumbai in September 2024 in search of a maritime job, after completing pre-sea training course from a Varanasi-based college. Gupta sent his resume to Crystal Ship Management company via email in November that year and received a call the next day from the company for an interview at their Andheri West office. At the Andheri office, Gupta was interviewed by a man named Sohail (25), who said the company was led by 'Captain Mohit alias Momin Chauhan'. Sohail told Gupta that he had been selected for a shipping job in Dubai and would need to pay Rs 5 lakh, including an upfront fee of Rs 50,000. Till February 2025, Gupta paid Rs 4.5 lakh to the company. Gupta was flown to Sharjah on a tourist visa on December 17, 2024, and was kept in a guest house with 10–12 other young men for nearly a month, before being taken to Iran in January 2025 under promises of joining a ship. In Iran, Gupta met Yash Chauhan (22), who shared a similar story. Both were taken to a location where they were forced to do manual labour along with other young men from India. According to Gupta, when they attempted to contact Sohail and Captain Chauhan for help, Sohail allegedly told them to 'work there or die'. After being stranded at Shiraz Airport in Iran for three days without help, Gupta and Chauhan finally managed to return to India with financial assistance from their families. Once back in Mumbai, they confronted the company at its office where they were allegedly threatened with fake sexual harassment cases. Eventually when they came to the Amboli police station, they met another person from Karnataka who was duped in a similar manner. After an investigation, personnel at Amboli police station on Monday registered an FIR against Sohail, Mohit Chauhan and Siraj of the shipping company. An officer from Amboli police station said that so far they have four complainants in the case and have issued notice to the accused to join the investigation.

Logistics firm staffer held after phone records expose staged Rs70L gold robbery
Pune: Discrepancies in phone location and records exposed a Mumbai-based logistic firm staffer's lie as the Bund Garden police arrested him and cracked a Rs70-lakh robbery in front of Pune railway station on June 11. The police are searching for his two aides in Rajasthan and Delhi. The robbed gold ornaments, the arrested staffer said, were with the duo. The police established that the robbery was an insider's job after the staffer gave inconsistent replies. He claimed that two men threatened him at gunpoint. Discrepancies in the staffer's phone location and records, after he narrated the sequence of the robbery to the police, exposed his lie. Senior inspector Ravindra Gaikwad of the Bund Garden police said, "We arrested Dharmesh Prabhulal Rebari (19) of Rajsamand in Rajasthan. We have identified his two accomplices, both childhood friends. Dharmesh moved to Mumbai about one-and-a-half years ago. Many employees of the logistic company are from Rajsamand. Dharmesh joined the company with their reference with a monthly salary of Rs14,000." He said, "We checked the CCTV footage of the spot and realised that the two men approached Dharmesh near the prepaid autorickshaw stand. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Air conditioners without external unit. When the duo fled after robbing the jewellery, his phone and ID cards, he did not raise an alarm. The CCTV footage shows him moving around the Pune station area. After three hours, he reached the logistics company's Somwar Peth office and informed his office colleagues about the robbery. His colleagues then informed the Mumbai office. An Andheri-based manager came to Pune and lodged a complaint with us." The officer said, "We arrested Dharmesh after some intense grilling, during which he confessed to committing the crime with his two aides, now on the run somewhere in Rajasthan or Delhi. Our teams have gone to Rajasthan and Delhi in their search. The duo not only took the gold jewellery weighing 740 grams but also took Dharmesh's ID cards, PAN card and his cellphone." Gaikwad said, "Dharmesh and the two others were using a social media site to communicate with each other. They did not use the normal calling facility or messaging applications to communicate. The two suspects came to Pune and stayed at Kasarsai near Hinjewadi, from where they reached the Pune railway station area as decided." The police said the firm staffer confessed to plotting the robbery with his two aides after he arrived in Pune by train to distribute the gold ornaments as usual among the jewellers in the city.
