Double engine Sarkar autocratic, says Sharmila

Rajamahendravaram: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila strongly criticised the BJP-led government, stating that only Congress party truly understands people's problems and works for their genuine welfare. She participated in East Godavari district Congress extended meeting held in Rajamahendravaram on Friday. Sharmila alleged that both the Centre and the State are currently under autocratic and regressive rule. She appealed to the public to support Congress party and bring back good governance, which she described as a historic necessity. Senior Congress leader and CWC special invitee Gidugu Rudra Raju also addressed the gathering. Referring to the Emergency period, he condemned the BJP and RSS for spreading relentless misinformation about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, constitutional institutions are being undermined and misused for political gain, which he said is far worse than anything and equal to a dictatorship. He added that while Indira Gandhi made significant contributions to national security and poverty alleviation, today's political forces are shamefully attempting to tarnish her legacy with false propaganda. Rudra Raju asserted that India witnessed real development and genuine welfare during Congress rule. The meeting was chaired by East Godavari District Congress President TK Visweswara Reddy. APCC in-charge Palak Verma also attended the event. Following the meeting, Sharmila, Rudra Raju, Vishweshwara Reddy, and others paid floral tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar's statue at Gokavaram Bus Stand. Later, Sharmila unveiled a statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi near the water tank at Rajiv Gandhi Park in Seethampeta and paid homage by garlanding the statues of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

Implement promises made in Reorganistion Act

Visakhapatnam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi should fulfill promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014, demanded Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief YS Sharmila. At a media conference organised here on Friday, she stressed that it has been over a decade since Narendra Modi government assured to implement provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, but they were yet to be implemented. Emphasising that the people of Andhra Pradesh feel neglected, Sharmila wondered how the Prime Minister could visit AP without any trace of reluctance. Despite cases filed against him, Sharmila criticised that it was very apparent that YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was walking scot-free. 'It is because Jagan is Modi's adopted son. The PM not only supports Jagan in Vivekananda Reddy's murder case but also in every other aspect,' the APCC chief alleged. Reiterating that it has been a decade since the Prime Minister assured to implement the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, Sharmila questioned, 'What happened to the Special Category Status (SCS) announced for AP in Tirupati.' Modi cheated on AP people without according the status to the State. Both Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan have been extending support to Modi despite the betrayal the AP people faced. 'The Prime Minister cheated on the Polavaram project too. He had killed the project by reducing the height of it. By cutting down the height of the project, it cannot be termed as Polavaram project but a barrage,' she expressed anger. Even in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant issue, the APCC chief stated that Modi cheated on it as well. Maintaining that the Centre is not focusing on privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant at the moment, the Modi government is weakening the plant by removing 4,000 workers from it, she said. 'What's the need of building a capital city mobilising loans. Also, there is no special package for North Andhra as promised earlier. With so many issues to look into, is it really required to celebrate Yogandhra now,' Sharmila asked. Terming Jagan's recent press meet statements as indecent, Sharmila expressed disgust over Jagan's provocative statements like 'Narukutam', 'Samputam' and 'Battalu Udadeestam.'

Sharmila slams Jagan Mohan Reddy for unveiling statue of YSRCP activist in Palnadu

VIZIANAGARAM: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila slammed former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for unveiling the statue of YSRCP activist Nagamalleswara Rao, who allegedly committed suicide after losing huge money in betting, at Rentapalla village in Palnadu district. 'What kind of message is given to society by paying tributes to Nagamalleswara Rao, and unveiling his statue?' she questioned Jagan. Attending a district-level party review meeting in Vizianagaram on Thursday, Sharmila criticised the TDP-led NDA government for granting permission to Jagan to unveil the statue. She pointed out the government's inconsistency, noting that it had denied permission to Congress to support the agitation of Amaravati farmers, and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant employees. 'Jagan is the adopted child of the BJP. Therefore, the TDP-led NDA government is permitting him. We are fighting on public issues against PM Narendra Modi, and the BJP-led NDA government. Therefore, they are denying permission for our agitations,' Sharmila said. She further alleged that the government is restricting the Congress due to its protests against government failures. In a media interaction, Sharmila questioned the government's accountability for the violence during Jagan's Rentapalla tour, which resulted in the death of two innocents. 'Who will take the responsibility?' she asked, also recalling her own experience of being house-arrested while trying to participate in a stir against VSP privatisation.

Sharmila tells Congress cadre to ‘win hearts of people' ahead of local body polls

VIZIANAGARAM/SRIKAKULAM Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President Y.S. Sharmila Reddy on Thursday asked party leaders and activists to gear up for the local body elections and win the hearts of the people by explaining the development that took place during the Congress regime in the North Andhra districts. She attended the party's review meeting and held discussions with Vizianagaram District Congress President Maripi Vidyasagar and other leaders at the Masonic temple of the Fort City. She said that in spite of the political setbacks in the previous elections the party's strength has remained intact. She alleged that both the YSRCP and the TDP governments had failed to develop the State and had ignored all the pending projects in Vizianagaram district. In the evening, Ms. Sharmila Reddy was given a rousing reception by the Srikakulam District Congress Party President Ambati Krishna Rao and other leaders at Indira Vignan Bhavan. On the occasion, Ms. Sharmila advised party leaders to develop the cadre in all villages and mandals since many people are fed up with the functioning of regional parties. Mr. Krishnarao submitted a memorandum to the PCC President, providing details of the pending projects including the Vamsadhara phase-2 and the closure of jute and sugar factories which were established during the Congress regime in the backward district. Later speaking to the media, Ms. Sharmila alleged that the NDA government was obstructing the Congress whenever it tried to plan agitations in regards to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and other topics, but was allowing ex-chief minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to hold programmes and tours without any objections. She criticised Mr. Jagan for consoling families of those persons who reportedly died by suicide after facing huge losses in betting and other unlawful activities. She added that the party would regain its past glory as people across the country are seeking better administration.

Sharmila says she is a victim of KCR's phone tapping

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief YS Sharmila Reddy said that she is ready to attend the phone tapping case inquiry whenever she is asked to as she was also a victim of it. Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Sharmila made it clear that it is a fact that the phone tapping occurred as both the YSRCP and TRS governments colluded with one another during their tenure. 'Along with my phone, my husband's and close associates' phones were also tapped. Member of Rajya Sabha Y V Subba Reddy himself confirmed that my phone calls were tapped and also made me hear a recorded audio call which was tapped then,' she said. She swore by the Bible that the phone tapping occurred during YSRCP's tenure. She urged Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu governments to expedite the investigation into the phone tapping case and do justice to victims. Criticising that the relationship shared between YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and K Chandrashekar Rao was stronger than the one shared through blood relation, YS Sharmila Reddy alleged that the phone tapping was a sketch that the two former Chief Ministers did together to weaken her politically and financially in Telangana. Sharmila expressed her anger that the joint operation was carried out by the then chief ministers by tapping phones of political leaders and their followers. However, the APCC chief made it clear that the phone tapping was a small issue compared to the anarchical rule of the Jagan Mohan Reddy and KCR governments. She alleged that Jagan had forgotten the fact that she was his younger sister and had conspired several times against her so that she would not grow economically and politically. 'Jagan has nothing to do with my launching a party in Telangana. But he wanted to crush me for the sake of KCR,' she said.
