Andhra Pradesh government plans DIP app to digitally enrich Simhachalam pilgrimage
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is planning to implement a 'spiritual digital intervention project' (DIP) at Simhachalam temple under the Prashad (pilgrimage rejuvenation and spiritual heritage augmentation drive) scheme. At its core, the DIP initiative aims to transform the traditional pilgrimage experience into a digitally immersive journey. By integrating multimedia tools and a dedicated mobile application — the spiritual DIP app — visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the temple's history, architecture, and spiritual significance. The app will activate when visitors enter the temple premises, using push notifications and scanning technology. Through the app, visitors can explore various points of interest within the temple, with virtual guides narrating the history and significance of different structures. The app will bring to life the rich mythological stories associated with the temple, offering a personal and immersive experience in a virtual space. It will also provide detailed information about the various poojas offered at the temple. A booklet embedded with app-compatible markers will be offered free with the prasad or as part of selected pooja packages. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors Are Ditching Finger Pricks with This Breakthrough Monitor Thelifeh Undo Visitors can take the booklet home and use the DIP app to experience the temple's narratives and rituals at their convenience, fostering a lasting connection with the temple. According to a request for proposal (RfP) floated by APTDC for the project, the expected outcomes of the project include enhanced visitor engagement by offering a more interactive and educational experience, thereby deepening their connection to the temple and its cultural heritage. The innovative use of immersive technology is also expected to attract a wider audience, including younger visitors and tech-savvy tourists. Furthermore, the project will contribute to the preservation of the temple's heritage, making it accessible to future generations in a modern and engaging format. Additional integrated systems proposed include surveillance integration across the premises for improved security and monitoring. The temple store operations and lease management are suggested to be streamlined for efficient resource handling. Smart queue tracking and headcount prediction will assist in managing crowds effectively, while a task management system will ensure the organised and timely execution of responsibilities. A grievance management system and a feedback and suggestions platform will provide channels for addressing concerns and gathering public input. The proposals also include a dedicated call centre to support communication and visitor assistance, and a VIP protocol management to ensure smooth handling of high-profile guests.

Luxury hotel projects flock to tourist hubs, elude Amaravati
Vijayawada: Despite being the capital, Amaravati has drawn minimal interest from private investors in the hospitality sector, with tourism destinations like Visakhapatnam and Tirupati emerging as the preferred hotspots for luxury hotel development. At the recent Andhra Pradesh Tourism Conclave – Tech AI 2.0, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) signed 82 MoUs worth 10,329 crore, of which 47 were for hotel projects. However, only one of these was for Amaravati, while the majority targeted high-footfall destinations such as Vizag, Tirupati, and coastal areas like Suryalanka and Rushikonda. Tourism department officials clarified that earlier MoUs with marquee hotel chains for Amaravati are still active. As many as 17 major hotel groups are expected to invest in the capital region, though progress has been slow. "Investors are reluctant to develop star hotels in the Amaravati region due to the govt's proposed three-year deadline, which mandates a firm to start the project and complete boundary wall construction within one year of land allocation, and complete hotel development within three years. Although the three-year deadline norm is not officially in place for hotels, since the govt mandated the same deadline for various state and central govt institutions that were allocated land in Amaravati, investors in the hospitality industry fear that the same rule would apply to hotels as well, making them hesitant to invest," a top player in the AP hospitality sector told TOI. The representative added that relaxing the deadline and ensuring visible progress on government complexes in Amaravati could help restore investor confidence. Meanwhile, the state is actively promoting coastal tourism, offering investors more flexibility and fewer regulatory hurdles. Seaplane and cruise tourism initiatives are being rolled out along the coast, with hotel and resort projects encouraged in beach destinations like Machilipatnam and Suryalanka. In Vijayawada, marquee brands like Marriott and Radisson are reportedly in talks to establish 200-key hotels. "Radisson is in talks to set up its hotel towards the Kanuru stretch, while Marriott is expected to develop a star hotel near the Ramavarappadu Ring or towards the airport stretch," the representative added.

Adventure tourism: APTDC gets 130 applications
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has received an overwhelming response to its newly launched adventure tourism policy, with over 130 applications submitted by individuals and organisations keen to operate land, water, and air-based adventure activities. These applications are currently under detailed review, and APTDC is expected to announce a second window for submissions soon. The surge in interest follows the release of Government Order Ms. No. 15, which introduced a robust regulatory and operational framework aimed at promoting eco-friendly, safe, and inclusive adventure tourism. The policy is also intended to create local employment opportunities, particularly for youth. Under the new guidelines, Adventure Tour Operators (ATOs) must register and obtain licences, conduct safety audits, and provide first-aid training for guides. The policy also prohibits minors under 18 from participating in high-risk activities. Adventure tourism has been categorised into land (trekking, rock climbing, ATV), water (scuba diving, kayaking, river cruising), and air (paragliding, skydiving, air safaris) segments. APTDC Managing Director Dr. Amrapali Kata said the policy ensures responsible tourism across the state. 'Our goal is to position Andhra Pradesh as a leading adventure tourism destination while prioritising safety and sustainability,' she said. The G.O. outlines strict responsibilities for operators, including following 'Leave No Trace' environmental ethics, using certified equipment, offering insurance coverage of at least Rs 2 lakh per participant, and clearly displaying risk signage at activity locations. A dedicated monitoring committee and periodic safety inspections will ensure compliance. Operators found violating norms—especially those linked to accidents—face penalties, blacklisting, or licence cancellation. With structured regulations and growing interest from potential operators, Andhra Pradesh is on track to emerge as a major adventure tourism hub in the country.

State-of-the-art caravans usher in a new chapter in AP travel and tourism
VIJAYAWADA: Unveiled by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the Tourism Tech AI 2.0 Conclave in Vijayawada on Friday, state-of-the-art caravans usher in a new chapter in travel and tourism in Andhra Pradesh. In collaboration with Hyderabad Luxe Caravans, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) showcased two high-end caravans, a 10 or 12-seater, and a 6-seater at the conclave. The luxurious vehicles drew widespread attention for their stylish design, and premium amenities. Each caravan is fully equipped with star hotel-grade features, including a bed, a mini-conference area, television, fridge, microwave, kitchen, AC, washroom, sound system, and security cameras. The State government is set to unveil the new caravan tourism policy by July 30. It is aimed at bridging the shortage of star hotel rooms in popular tourist circuits. By then, the government plans to deploy more caravans across major tourist destinations. The caravan cost for a family of 12, including two children, will be less than car travel and star hotel accommodation, besides the rich experience. Explaining the bold new initiative, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Amrapali Kata, said, 'Construction of star hotels is a costly affair. That's why we are introducing luxury caravans to overcome the shortage of rooms. The high-end facilities in the caravans will amaze tourists.'
