Michigan football beats out Florida State, SMU, for 4-star safety
The post Michigan football beats out Florida State, SMU, for 4-star safety appeared first on ClutchPoints. Another one for the Michigan football team! The Wolverines have been on a tear on the recruiting trail as of late, and the momentum continued on Monday when four-star safety Andre Clarke announced his commitment to Michigan. Teams like Florida State, SMU and Kentucky were also high on his list, but Clarke found the best fit with the Wolverines. Head coach Sherrone Moore and his staff are loading up in the 2026 class. Advertisement 'BREAKING: Four-Star Safety Andre Clarke Jr. has Committed to Michigan, he tells me for @on3recruits,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'1 185 S from Richmond, VA chose the Wolverines over Kentucky, Florida State, & SMU.' Andre Clarke had a short message to share when he committed to the Michigan football program: 'AGTG I'm ready to work #GoBlue,' he said. Clarke is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #136 player in the 2026 recruiting class, the #11 safety and the #4 player in the state of Virginia. Clarke currently attends Hermitage High School in Richmond, VA. Some top ACC programs recruited him hard, but Michigan got the job done. Advertisement 'Clarke is a premier level playmaker in the defensive secondary with the ability to play both cornerback and safety,' Clarke's scouting report reads. 'Very desirable combination of instincts, athleticism, and tackling ability. Clarke can mirror and match receivers in coverage but also play center field safety and read the quarterback with great timing and leaping ability on passes downfield.' There is a lot of time before Clarke has to think about going pro, but Michigan is definitely getting a player with that type of talent. He should be playing football for a long time. 'Plays heady and aware of down and distance in the passing game but can also come up and lay explosive hits on ball carriers,' the scouting report adds. 'Clarke is more thin-framed but shows more strength and toughness than his size insists. Clarke's playmaking ability and coverage chops project him to a mid to early round NFL draft choice projection.' The Michigan football team is on a recruiting heater unlike anything we have ever seen from the program. Jim Harbaugh always brought in solid classes while he was the head coach, but Sherrone Moore has been on another level so far. The Wolverines have picked up seven big commitments in the last week, and more are on the way. The 2026 Michigan football recruiting class was barely ranked inside the top-50 not too long ago. Now, the Wolverines have a top-10 class. Related: 4-star EDGE picks Ole Miss football over Ohio State, Washington Related: Georgia gets recruiting win over Oregon, USC with 4-star DB

Hours After Landing 5-Star EDGE, Sherrone Moore, Michigan Secure Another Recruiting Win
Hours After Landing 5-Star EDGE, Sherrone Moore, Michigan Secure Another Recruiting Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The recruiting wins keep coming for the Michigan Wolverines. The Big Ten powerhouse secured a commitment from one of the best players in the country on Sunday when five-star EDGE Carter Meadows announced his intention to join the program. Advertisement Some may view Michigan's 2024 finish as a disappointment due to its 8-5 record, but the Wolverines closed the regular season by beating their main rival, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and secured a signature bowl win against the SEC's Alabama Crimson Tide. Adding to that momentum, the Wolverines defied the odds in December by flipping five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood away from the LSU Tigers. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound signal-caller is projected to be the team's starter this season. Michigan and head coach Sherrone Moore received more good news on Monday upon earning another blue-chip commitment from four-star safety Andre Clarke from Richmond, Virginia. Hailing from Hermitage High School — which has produced some star talent in the NFL such as Duane Brown, Jamie Sharper, Darren Sharper and Shawn Barber — Clarke follows in the footsteps of the school's pedigree. Advertisement On3 rates Clarke as the 185th player in the country, the No. 16 safety and sixth-best player from Virginia. He visited Michigan earlier this month and upon committing to the Wolverines, Clarke described what helped him make his decision, per On3's EJ Holland. 'I like Coach Morgan's knowledge,' Clarke said. 'I like the way he coaches. He's really smart. I think he can help me become a better man. I really enjoyed talking to Coach Moore, too. I like his story and how far he's come.' Advertisement Michigan has the 10th-best recruiting class according to On3's 2026 team rankings. Michigan football earns recruiting predictions for 4-stars Travis Johnson and Andre Clarke
Michigan football earns recruiting predictions for 4-stars Travis Johnson and Andre Clarke Michigan football is closing up its penultimate recruiting weekend of the late spring and early summer and with so many heavy hitters on campus, it's not surprising that the Wolverines are making moves with some of them. With 10 commitments thus far in 2026, the maize and blue are looking at building out the class even more, and appear poised to do so in short order (though the Sherrone Moore batsignal isn't out just yet to indicate anyone has joined the fold at this juncture). Still, the June 13 recruiting weekend appeared to be a big success, so much so that two recruiting sites put in predictions for two separate prospects who were on campus this weekend. Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson The Wolverines have been targeting a handful of top-flight wide receivers in the 2026 class. Four-star Zion Robinson visited Ann Arbor in May, and five-star Calvin Russell is set to visit for Victors Weekend. But another mainstay in terms of targets has been Travis Johnson, a four-star from the DMV region. Johnson visited Ann Arbor this weekend and it apparently went quite well. The Michigan Insider's Sam Webb and Steve Lorenz both put in 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for the Wolverines to land him, and On3's Steve Wiltfong and EJ Holland did the same on their site. Johnson is also considering Virginia Tech, Penn State, South Carolina, and Indiana. He's listed highest by ESPN, which has him as the No. 109 player in the country. Richmond (Va.) Heritage four-star CB Andre Clarke Johnson isn't the only visitor this weekend from the DMV that Michigan football made a move with. The Wolverines are looking at several top-flight cornerbacks, with Khary Adams and Andre Clarke being two of the top targets. Adams visited last weekend while Clarke visited Ann Arbor this week, and it appears that it went well for the latter. Sam Webb put in a 247Sports Crystal Ball while EJ Holland put one in on On3. Kentucky had been considered the favorite, while SMU and Miami have also been pushing. He's also listed highest on ESPN, which has him as the No. 100 player nationally. Clarke has visited Ann Arbor four times -- more than any other school by double.
