Small plane crashes at London-area airport
A small plane has crashed at London Southend Airport on England's south east coast, police said on Sunday. "We remain on the scene of a serious incident at Southend Airport," the local Essex Police said, adding that they were alerted just before 4 p.m. to reports of a collision involving a 39-foot plane. It was unclear how many people were on the plane. Images from British newspaper websites, not verified by Reuters, showed a fireball rising into the air above Southend Airport, around 35 miles east of London. The East of England Ambulance Service said it had sent four ambulances and other response vehicles. The airport's website showed five international flights had been cancelled following the accident. Cricket-South Africa beat Australia by five wickets to win World Test Championship
LONDON (Reuters) -South Africa won the World Test Championship on Saturday, completing a remarkable turnaround to beat Australia by five wickets as they successfully chased down an imposing 282-run target. But it was an edgy finish as they took 27.4 overs to slowly score the 69 runs needed to secure success on the fourth day at Lord's after resuming at 213-2 overnight. In so doing, they completed a successful pursuit of the joint second-highestwinning fourth-innings totalin test history at the London venue. It was a first major cricket triumph for South Africa, who had earned an unwanted reputation for failure when on the cusp of victory over the last decades in limited overs competitions. IAEA board declares Iran in breach of non-proliferation duties, diplomats say
VIENNA (Reuters) -The U.N. nuclear watchdog's 35-nation Board of Governors passed a resolution on Thursday formally declaring Iran in breach of its non-proliferation obligations for the first time in almost 20 years, diplomats at the closed-door meeting said. "(The board) Finds that Iran's many failures to uphold its obligations since 2019 to provide the Agency with full and timely cooperation regarding undeclared nuclear material and activities at multiple undeclared locations in Iran ... constitutes non-compliance with its obligations under its Safeguards Agreement with the Agency," the International Atomic Energy Agency board resolution text seen by Reuters said. Rugby-England to play Spain and France in World Cup warm-up matches
(Reuters) -World Cup hosts England will play two warm-up matches against Spain and France in August before the tournament begins, the governing Rugby Football Union (RFU) said on Wednesday. The Six Nations champions and two-times World Cup winners will host Spain in Leicester on August 2 and then travel to take on France in Mont-de-Marsan a week later. Spain will appear at their first World Cup since 2017 after winning the WXV 3 tournament last year, while France will be aiming to reach their first final of the tournament having finished third on seven occasions. England last won the World Cup in 2014 and have reached the final in all-but-one of the previous nine editions. The Red Roses will go in as strong favourites having won all 25 matches since losing the last final to New Zealand in 2022. France pushed England hard in the recent Six Nations, with England clinching the Grand Slam on the final day in a thrilling 43-42 win over the French at Twickenham to claim championship victory for the seventh successive time. The World Cup begins on August 22 with England playing the United States in Sunderland. Samoa and Australia are with them in Pool A. (Reporting by Trevor Stynes; Editing by Andrew Cawthorne)
