Australia cannot afford to have ‘sliding' relations with the United States
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Australia does not need the relationship with the United States to 'slide' as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's visit to China faces major criticisms. 'The prime minister's language is kind of a bit like, oh well, we need to broaden things and get on well with China as well,' Mr Clennell told Sky News host Peta Credlin. 'He is obviously saying the US is important, but I do feel he was a bit disappointed to say the least; he never met Donald Trump at that G7 meeting.'

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell discusses Treasurer Jim Chalmers' National Press Club address. 'Jim Chalmers this week gave a speech at the National Press Club, a week after the Prime Minister had given a similar speech - talking up the government's productivity roundtable to be held in August,' Mr Clennell said. 'He poured a bit of cold water on the prospect there could be an increase in the GST and a resultant decrease in income tax and other taxes, that's the big tax reform that people have been urging for decades.'
