Former Vikings starter from 2024 makes NFL Top 100 Players of 2025 list
The NFL has started rolling out its Top 100 Players for the 2025 Season. They are doing it exclusively on social media this year, compared to specials on NFL Network, compared to years past, in hopes of garnering more engagement, one can assume. That leads us to the latest player to make the list, the first being Aaron Jones at the 98 spot, followed by Andrew Van Ginkel at the 88 spot. They are now joined by one of their 2024 teammates who left in free agency, Sam Darnold, who earns the 72 spot in the rankings done by his fellow NFL players. Darnold stepped up when the Vikings needed him most in 2024 when their top draft pick, quarterback J.J. McCarthy, went down with a knee injury in the preseason. While many people expected the season to be doomed, Darnold led the Vikings to a 14-3 record and was one game away from winning the NFC North. The former USC Trojan is now back out west with the Seattle Seahawks, whom the Vikings will play in 13. Green Bay Packers defender lands at No. 80 on NFL's annual list of top 100 players
The NFL has begun unfurling its top 100 players in the league, and a Green Bay Packers player checks in at No. 80. That's pass rusher Rashan Gary, the first — but likely not the last — Packer to make the annual ranking. Advertisement The slow-and-steady rollout began in late June with the No. 91-100 picks and will continue through the exhibition portion of the season; the top 10 players are announced Sept. 1. The list is compiled based on votes of NFL players. Gary played in 17 games last year and finished with nine tackles for loss, 7½ sacks, a forced fumble and 47 tackles overall. It was arguably a down year, but it was the first time he started every game and he made the Pro Bowl for the first time. Gary will turn 28 years old in December and will be the midst of his seventh season with Green Bay and second under defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Advertisement He's the first Packers player on the top 100, though University of Wisconsin alumnus Andrew Van Ginkel, who was named second-team All-Pro last season in a breakout season with the Vikings, made the list at No. 88. His teammate, former Packers running back Aaron Jones, made the list at No. 98 after rushing for 1,138 yards last year, the highest mark in his career. Jones last made the list in 2023 at No. 64. He placed as high as No. 30 in 2021. Gary ranked No. 50 on the 2024 list, his first time in the top-100 rankings. The only other Packers player on the 2024 list included Jordan Love (No. 34), though it's fair to assume Xavier McKinney will also make an appearance in 2025, at the very least. Green Bay Packers defensive end Rashan Gary (52) pressures Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud (7) during the second quarter of their game Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Vikings' Andrew Van Ginkel joins Aaron Jones on NFL Top 100 Players of 2025 list
The NFL has started rolling out its Top 100 Players for the 2025 Season. They are doing it exclusively on social media this year, compared to specials on NFL Network, compared to years past, in hopes of garnering more engagement, one can assume. That leads us to the latest player to make the list, the first was Aaron Jones at the 98, but now he is joined by Andrew Van Ginkel at the 88 spot. The first season with the Vikings was a memorable one for the former Miami Dolphin. After signing with the team in the offseason, he wasted no time in making an impact with four tackles, one sack, one interception, and one defensive touchdown. From there, the rest of the year saw him be a contender for Defensive Player of the Year and he is carrying that momentum into 2025. With Andrew Van Ginkel making the list at 88, one has to think we will be seeing other Vikings defensive players such as Jonathan Greenard, Byron Murphy Jr., and perhaps even Harrison Smith, later on in the rankings.

Former Wisconsin football star, 2025 Pro Bowler makes NFL top 100 ranking
Former Wisconsin football star and current Minnesota Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel earned the No. 88 spot in the NFL's top 100 ranking ahead of the 2025 season. For the first time in his six-year career, Van Ginkel pocketed a position on the heralded hierarchy. He is the first former Badger to crack the 100-man list and the second linebacker listed, following Tampa Bay Buccaneers' star Lavonte David (No. 96). Months removed from inking a one-year, $23 million contract extension with the Vikings, Van Ginkel finds himself amongst league royalty after a 79-tackle, 11 1/2-sack output in his most prolific year in the NFL to date. In addition to those numbers, Van Ginkel accumulated 18 tackles for loss, 19 quarterback hits, six pass deflections, one forced fumble and two interceptions -- both of which he returned for touchdowns. The seasonal performance also earned him his first Pro Bowl bid, a spot on the AP Second-Team All-Pro team and a No. 7 finish in Defensive Player of the Year voting. Prior to joining Kevin O'Connell's squad in Minnesota, the Iowa native spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins. While he didn't necessarily shine like he did with the Vikings, he averaged 50 tackles, 6.2 for loss, 9.5 quarterback hits and 3.4 sacks per season as a valuable member of the defensive unit. His draft position -- No. 151 overall in the fifth round in 2019 -- suggested that he may have reached his ceiling with Miami, but he morphed that notion into a falsity when he arrived at U.S. Bank Stadium. "He's one of the most versatile players that we have in this league," former offensive tackle Terron Armstead said of Van Ginkel in his highlight reel for NFL Films. "You don't understand how fast he a relentless player. He plays with his hair on fire, and he has a lot of football IQ is really what separates ability to read plays before the snap. He looks at formations. That's why he's able to jump screen passes, because he knows it's coming." Van Ginkel played for two seasons for the Badgers from 2017-18 after one year at the Football Championship Subdivision (South Dakota) level and one year in JUCO (Iowa Western). With UW, he was responsible for 99 tackles, 20 for loss, 12 sacks, two interceptions, five pass deflections and four forced fumbles over those two seasons. He has since emerged as one of the most valuable linebackers in professional football.
