Bihar announces India's first e-voting through mobile app: How does it work?

Bihar State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad on Friday (June 27, 2025) had shared the information to media that for the first time, voters in the Bihar municipal elections would be able to cast vote through mobile for six councils in Patna, Rohtas and East Champaran district on Saturday (June 28, 2025). The facilities are available for those people who are unable to go to polling booths to cast their votes. Senior citizens, disabled people and pregnant women can avail this option. How does the e-voting system work? Voters have to install the E-SECBHR app which is now currently available only for Android users Link your mobile number to the app as registered in the electoral roll After verification, you can cast a vote using the e-SECBHR app on the election day or the Bihar Election Commission's official website. One of the biggest fears of e-voting is the possible tampering, however, Mr. Prasad asserted that efforts have been made to maintain transparency and the voting process would be smooth and fair. Methods to prevent tampering Only two registered voters are allowed to log in using one mobile number Verification of each voter is being done by entering the vote id number. Other security measures taken Blockchain technology ensures that votes are recorded and saved in a secure, immutable system Facial recognition and matching assist in the verification of voter identities during login and voting. Till June 27 evening, around 10,000 voters have registered for mobile voting and around 50,000 voters are expected to cast their votes using websites. However, it was not mentioned whether this facility would be available during the upcoming Assembly election due in October-November 2025.

BLOGGING THE VIEW: 7 family-friendly activities to keep kids busy this holiday

WINTER in KZN is a fantastic time of year – sunny but not too hot, with lots of outdoor events and festivals taking place. If you're looking for something fun to do with the family this holiday, here are some great winter break activities to consider. 1. Explore the KZN beaches We're fortunate to have some of the best beaches and, with our subtropical climate, they're even welcoming in winter. The sardine run, which sees shoals of silver fish heading north past the KZN south coast, is also active at this time of year and well worth a visit. Take a beach ball and a picnic for a full day of fun – at no cost. 2. Picnic out in nature This time of year is also great for getting out and exploring our many nature reserves and parks. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, iSimangaliso Wetland Park, and Dlinza Forest are right on our doorstep, with several other great spots to explore a bit further afield. Try Yellowwood Park or Durban Botanic Gardens in Durban, or Shongweni Dam and Nature Reserve further inland for birdwatching. 3. Discover museums Museums are a fun and educational outing, especially on colder days. The KwaZulu-Natal Museum in Pietermaritzburg has fascinating exhibits on natural history, culture and archaeology. Most municipal museums in the province charge limited fees, making them an accessible option for families. Closer to home, there's the Fort Nongqayi Museum Village in eShowe, the Port Natal Maritime Museum in Durban, and the Luthuli Museum in Groutville. 4. Animal farm or reptile park Animal farms and small wildlife parks are great outings for younger children, offering hands-on interaction with animals in a relaxed setting. There's the Dayspring Equestrian Centre and Animal Farm just outside Empangeni, Zulu Croc Reptile Park in Hluhluwe, Flag Animal Farm in Ballito, PheZulu Safari Park in Hillcrest, and Crocworld Conservation Centre in Scottburgh. 5. Take a hike Hiking trails are among the best cost-effective activities available, and our diverse terrain means you can pick from beach walks, forest trails, or mountain hikes. There are many local hikes in the Dlinza Forest in eShowe, and the uMlalazi Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Park in Mtunzini. You could also explore further afield, trying the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve in Durban or the many hikes around the Drakensberg region. 6. Local events The drier, more inviting outdoor weather at this time of year means there are various community farm stalls, markets and outdoor events hosted in June and July. Check out the Zululand Observer for the latest community markets and winter festivals. 7. Fun at home If travel is a bit cost-prohibitive, you can have lots of fun at home with a bit of creativity. Consider hosting a movie night, garden scavenger hunts, cooking challenges, or arts-and-crafts days at home. The most important thing is to spend time with your little ones! Don't have the ZO app? Nearly Half Of Saudis Spend Over Seven Hours Online Daily

Nearly half of Saudi Arabia's internet users, approximately 48.6 percent, spend seven hours or more online each day, according to the Saudi Internet 2024 report released by the Kingdom's Communications, Space and Technology Commission last week. The report highlights a sharp rise in the consumption of digital content and e-services, driven by the country's broader digital transformation agenda. The data shows that peak internet usage occurs between 9pm and 11pm, with March recording the highest overall usage levels throughout the year. Saturdays were found to be the most internet-active day of the week. Home remains the primary location for internet use, with 87.9 percent of users logging on from their residences. This is followed by internet use during travel, at 79.3 percent, and the workplace, where 41.7 percent of users reported being connected. In terms of devices, mobile phones dominate the digital landscape, with 99.4 percent of users accessing the internet via smartphones. Computers came in second at 50.7 percent, followed by tablets at 37.5 percent. Android holds the lion's share of mobile operating systems, accounting for 55 percent of usage, compared to 45 percent for iOS. Meanwhile, Windows remains the dominant platform for computers, used by 91.1 percent of users, far outpacing Macintosh (7.5 percent) and Linux (1.4 percent).

Major mobile brand is shutting down after 15 years – last chance for users to update before permanent closure in DAYS

A HUGE mobile major brand is bowing out after 15 years. It's the last chance for existing users to update their phones - though they may want to consider buying a new handset entirely before sinister hacks start to emerge. 1 LG has been a staple in the mobile scene for 15 yearsh Credit: Getty LG was once the world's third-bestselling mobile brand. But the firm announced in 2021 that its mobile division was closing down due to poor sales. The South Korean tech giant has continued to offer important software updates for its most recent handsets. But those are coming to an end on Monday, putting the final nail in the coffin of LG's mobile business. LG's last phone release was the LG Wing 5G, which features a unique design with two displays - one of which swivels. After June 30, Android software updates for LG phones will no longer be available. This means hackers could be on the lookout for vulnerabilities to exploit - and with no further updates to fix them. If you want to continue using your LG smartphone, it's at least best to get the last update while you still can. "We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude towards our customers who have loved and supported LG Electronics mobile products," LG said. "After the termination date, you will no longer be able to use the software upgrade services. Urgent warning to delete 2 dangerous apps that STEAL all photos & blackmail you "If you wish to use the services, we strongly recommend upgrading your software before June 30, 2025. "Furthermore, as we will no longer provide application updates, you will not be able to download default applications deleted upon initialization." The move also marks the end for the LG Bridge software for PCs which allowed mobile users to update too.
