Things were getting pretty intense for Julian Reese as he was waiting for his turn to get drafted earlier on Wednesday. However, life had different plans for him. On Friday, he got some news after the Los Angeles Lakers signed him up as a part of their Summer League squad. His sister, the star of the WNBA, burst into joy as he was about to become a part of the NBA, a professional basketball player. — BleacherReport (@BleacherReport) Angel Reese couldn't be more hyped for her little brother, however, reminding him simultaneously that his career had just begun and that the hard part had just come up. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunteck Presents 2/3BHK Sea View Homes at ₹98L+* in Mumbai Sunteck Realty Learn More Undo 'Proud is an understatement. TIME TO WORK.", exclaimed Angel Reese as it was her brother's turn to get a massive contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Now that he has entered the big league and is about to become a pro, Angel Reese did not hesitate to give him a stern reminder about what the actual world looks like. Julian Reese formerly played for the Maryland Terrapins while he was on the college basketball team. He had an outstanding four-year career with them. During his college life, he had averaged 13.3 points on 55.5% shooting, 9.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. He became one of the two players in the history of Maryland to have a total score at least 1000 points and 1000 rebounds. As Julian Reese entered the world of the NBA, his sister couldn't help but think about her little brother who had worked so hard to accomplish his dream-come-true moment. She had been his constant support since day 1 and had seen him come this far, brick by brick. 'OPPORTUNITY. COME ON JU,' Angel Reese commented on her social media. Former coach of the Maryland Terrapins, Kevin Willard, said, 'I really believe one day Julian's number will be hanging from the rafters, because in an era where kids showed no loyalty, kids get up and go anytime they want, money this and that, this young man didn't transfer." As everyone awaits his performance, Julian Reese feels pressure; however, he promised everyone to give his best in the next season. Angel Reese Reacts to Brother Julian Reese Signing with Lakers After NBA Draft
Angel Reese Reacts to Brother Julian Reese Signing with Lakers After NBA Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NBA draft unfolded across Wednesday and Thursday, and while several players heard their names called and saw their dreams realized, others faced a tougher path—signing on as undrafted rookies, often with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. Advertisement One of those players is Julian Reese from Maryland, the younger brother of Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese. On Friday, Julian agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of Summer League, joining a group of notable undrafted free agents including RJ Davis (North Carolina), Eric Dixon (Villanova), and Augustas Marciulionis (Saint Mary's). If any team knows how to find hidden gems among undrafted players, it's the Lakers. Both Alex Caruso—who won a championship with L.A. in 2020—and Austin Reaves carved out successful NBA careers after going undrafted and earning their stripes in Los Angeles. Now, Julian Reese will look to become the next breakout story, and his sister Angel celebrated the milestone with a proud and heartfelt reaction to the news. Advertisement "OPPORTUNITY. COME ON JU," Angel posted on social media. Both Angel and Julian Reese began their collegiate careers at Maryland. While Angel transferred to LSU—where she went on to win a national championship—Julian remained with the Terrapins, spending four seasons with the program and playing a pivotal role in helping them reach the Sweet 16 in this past NCAA Tournament. Chicago Sky forward Angel Krzaczynski-Imagn Images As a senior, Reese averaged 13.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game, while shooting an efficient 55.5% from the field. One factor that may have contributed to him going undrafted is his inconsistency as a shooter, particularly from beyond the arc—a crucial skill for big men in today's NBA, especially those projected as stretch forwards. Advertisement Reese didn't make a single three-pointer during his senior season. However, he did show improvement at the free-throw line, raising his percentage from 56.8% as a junior to 73.4% in his final year at Maryland. WNBA Fans Send Clear Message on Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Ahead of All-Star Game
WNBA Fans Send Clear Message on Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Ahead of All-Star Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese is one that has defined the explosion in popularity of women's basketball over the last several years and could continue to do so for decades to come. Advertisement But as far as the debate on who is the more valuable player as of right now, WNBA fans and media members have spoken loudly and clearly. Clark, the Indiana Fever point guard, earned Rookie of the Year honors over Reese in 2024 and led her team to the playoffs. Reese, a front court player for the Chicago Sky, faded in the ROY battle down the stretch, finished the season sidelined with a wrist injury and watched the postseason from home. Clark also earned First-Team All-NBA honors, placing her among the league's elite players, while Reese wasn't relevant in that conversation as a rookie. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (left) and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (right).Grace Smith/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Clark started the WNBA All-Star Game as a rookie member of "Team WNBA," which faced off against "Team USA" featuring all the members of the country's Olympics roster that captured gold in Paris last summer. Reese was on the same All-Star roster as Clark, though she came off the bench and played eight fewer minutes. Advertisement The league is switching up ithe format this year, as the top two vote-getters will serve as captains of the two All-Star rosters. Fan voting will also determine the pool of the eight other starters, from whom the captains will select first, and the pool of 12 reserves, between whom the captains will subsequently select. Clark is in line to be a captain, leading all players with nearly 516,000 votes, per Michael Voepel of ESPN predicted on Friday, June 27, that she will remain in that spot despite having missed six of the team's 15 games to this point due to injury. Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever.© Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images "Clark remains an ultra-elite playmaker even when her shot isn't falling," Voepel wrote, noting her current 3-point shooting slump. "And defenses put so much emphasis on covering her that it opens up opportunities for her teammates. She was the early leader in fan voting, which is likely to hold up and put her in a captain's spot." Advertisement Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx is the second-leading vote-getter and in line for the second captain spot. Voepel and Kendra Andrews predicted the eight other All-Star starters, including five front court players, though Reese was noticeably absent from the list. She is currently 13th in fan voting with approximately 137,000 votes and highly likely to earn a spot as a reserve. However, Reese's struggles offensively this season -- 11.3 points per game on 38.5% shooting from the field -- have clearly set her back in the eyes of the fans, both in terms of her All-Star status and in direct comparisons to Clark.
