658 dumping spots under watch as cleanliness drive begins tomorrow
1 2 Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch an intensive 15-day sanitation campaign, Swachhata Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight), from July 1. The initiative is aimed at promoting hygiene, raising public awareness and improving Patna's ranking in the Centre's Swachh Survekshan 2025-26. As part of the campaign, sanitation workers will clean all 658 garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) that were successfully cleared. In addition, special teams will monitor high-traffic areas to prevent littering and illegal dumping while awareness sessions will be held in residential localities to educate citizens on proper waste disposal. Municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar said the drive would cover all 75 wards. "During this period, various activities will be conducted by sanitation workers at the freed GVP sites. Civic body officials will administer a cleanliness pledge to residents. Names of 'Sadak Shatru' — people caught littering or dumping waste — will be recorded and blacklisted. Offenders will be fined between Rs 500 and Rs 5,000," he said. Parashar added, "Awareness programmes will be held daily at 19 different locations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy One, Get One Free, Up To 50% Discount, Expiring Soon Original Adidas Get Offer Undo People will be encouraged to segregate solid and wet waste and to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean." Rallies are planned in all six civic circles – Azimabad, Bankipur, Kankarbagh, New Capital, Patliputra and Patna City – led by executive officers, zonal in-charges and ward councillors. Awareness activities will also extend to schools, colleges, hotels and public spaces. Additional municipal commissioner Aashish Kumar said despite previous clean-ups, garbage dumping at freed GVPs continues. "This campaign aims to ensure 100% cleanliness. Alongside the pledge, sanitation workers will be honoured for their dedication. Our primary focus is public participation, waste segregation and permanent elimination of GVPs," he said. Kumar also highlighted construction and demolition (C&D) waste as a key concern. "Awareness efforts will ensure full processing at the C&D plant in Ramachak Bairiya. The goal is to raise daily processing from 10-15 tonnes to over 19 tonnes per zone. PMC operates across 19 zones." The campaign will also integrate a dengue awareness drive. "Participants will be educated on dos and don'ts. With the rainy season underway, over 500 teams across 375 sectors are spraying anti-larvae to prevent water stagnation. Each ward is being closely monitored," he said. Officials said micro-level operations would target each ward with consistent household waste collection to ensure city-wide sanitation coverage throughout the fortnight.

PMC to set up biogas plant at city's Bazar Samiti
Patna: In a significant move towards sustainable waste management, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to establish a state-of-the-art biogas plant on Bazar Samiti premises, the city's largest fruit and vegetable market in the Bahadurpur area of the state capital. The project, approved by the Union ministry of urban development and housing, will help address the growing waste management challenges in the city. Patna was selected as one of only four cities across the country, alongside Varanasi, Bengaluru, and Trichy, for this initiative. The PMC will install a 5 TPD (tonnes per day) capacity biogas plant within the market committee premises for which the DPR is being prepared, said a PMC official. PMC commissioner, Animesh Kumar Parashar, said, "The project will be executed under the 'Waste solutions for a circular economy in India' project, supported by GIZ's MAF funding. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in improving Patna's performance in the Swachh Survekshan rankings." Parashar further said the biogas plant will process approximately 5,000 kg of organic waste daily. This processing will yield around 250kg of biogas and 500 kg of organic fertiliser everyday. "One of the key benefits of this project is the elimination of daily waste transportation to Bairiya dumping yard, as the waste will be processed on-site. This will not only reduce transportation costs, but also minimise the environmental impact of waste disposal," he said. "We expect this project to serve as a model for similar waste management solutions in other cities across the country," Parashar added. RCD set to repair damaged city roads
Patna: Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) has handed over three major roads in Patna to the road construction department (RCD) for urgent repair works. The roads, spanning 1,199 metres, are located in the Digha and Kankarbagh zones where sewerage network works have recently been completed. BUIDCO managing director Animesh Kumar Parashar has asked agencies to ensure roads are restored immediately following completion of infrastructure work to avoid inconvenience to the public during the upcoming monsoon season. "The three roads assigned to the RCD for repair include Sahdeo Mahto Marg in Digha Zone-1, Ghurdaur Road in Digha Zone-2 and the stretch from Jaleshwar Temple to Jogipur Colony in Kankarbagh Zone," said an RCD official. Earlier, a list of 39 additional roads was handed over to the department for restoration. These include the stretch from Daroga Rai Path to Veer Chand Patel Path in Digha Zone 1, Digha-Ashiana Road to Shastri Nagar in Digha Zone 2 and from Hanuman Nagar to Malahi Pakri in Kankarbagh zone. Ranjeet Rai, a resident of Ghurdaur Road, said locals face regular difficulties crossing the Ashiana-Digha Road. "A lot of dust can be seen in the air due to ongoing construction work under the Namami Gange Project. "The situation gets worse when it rains, as the road becomes slippery due to the damaged surface," he added. While the RCD is responsible for restoring its own roads, the repair of roads under the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is carried out by BUIDCO's appointed agency. Road construction minister Nitin Nabin had recently directed that all damaged roads be repaired by May 30 without fail. He has also instructed agencies to ensure all open manholes at construction sites are securely covered and all potholes are filled without delay.
