Anita Hassanandani says she would also opt for limited work hours like Deepika Padukone: ‘Every parent wants to work lesser'

Actor Anita Hassanandani is all set to participate in Zee TV's reality show Choriyaan Chali Gaon. On the show, Anita, along with 10 other contestants, will be staying in a village for two and a half months, taking part in rural activities. During a conversation on SCREEN's Dear Me, Anita shared that saying yes to the show was a difficult decision as a mother, as she would deeply miss her son Aarav. She also expressed a wish to work shorter hours, similar to Deepika Padukone's recent request to the makers of Spirit. Talking about challenges that modern parenting comes with, Anita said, 'As parents, we are overprotecting our children. This generation does so much that sometimes I fear that we don't end up with the kids having phobias. I have been wanting to do work hours like Deepika Padukone. Every parent wants to work less so that they can spend more time with their child and watch every phase of them growing up. So, definitely I would look for fewer working hours, having a few days off in the week. Initially, I didn't want to work. Nobody asked me to do it, but I just wanted to be with Aarav every second of my life.' You can play different characters. But actresses do have a pretty short shelf life. For male actors like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, there is no end to it. On TV, getting back after a break is a problem. The industry is already assuming things after you become a mother. So even before you can say you don't want to work, they assume that you will be busy and you won't take up work. People think that work has taken a backseat and you wouldn't want to get back.' Pointing out that age also plays a crucial role, Anita said you need to be in a position like Alia Bhatt if you want to bounce back smoothly. 'If you are in a position like an Alia Bhatt who delivered a child and in three months she was working on Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, it's different. On TV, it's not so instant, you have to slog and come back out there. You have to be fit again, and also be ready.' Anita Hassanandani on staying relevant: Sometimes you have to bend a little

Anita Hassanandani Having completed 25 years in the entertainment industry, Anita Hassanandani believes television has not seen any substantial transformation in its content. The actress, who was last seen in Suman Indori and will next appear in the reality show Chhoriyan Chali Gaon, feels the medium continues to rely on outdated tropes. In a chat with Mumbai Mirror, Anita shares, 'Honestly, I haven't seen much of a change. Television, as a format, still feels regressive. The upside is that shows no longer run endlessly. Within six months, you are in and out of a project, which is actually a positive for an actor. The downside is that these shows are not performing well anymore, which is unfortunate. Still, I choose to look at it positively. If I manage to do something decent for six months and then move on, that is still a win. ' Despite changes in the landscape, she has stayed relevant, something many of her contemporaries have struggled with. Ask her how she has managed to sustain her career, and she reflects, 'You have to make the most of what comes your way. Sometimes, you have to bend a little, even if the creative satisfaction is only 80 percent or the money is not ideal. After COVID, the dynamics of the industry have changed, and a bit of compromise is necessary to stay busy. I took a break when Aaravv was born, and while I truly enjoy being at home with him, I also feel the need to do something for myself. Working makes me happy, and that happiness makes me a better mother and a better person at home. It is all about finding balance, adjusting when needed, and choosing projects that feel right.' 'I do not think the audience is ready for that change yet' On how she deals with being part of shows that often return to conventional storytelling despite initially promising to be different, Anita explains, 'When a show begins, it might appear fresh and progressive. But eventually, it ends up following the same formula. As actors, we join hoping to be part of something that can shift the narrative, but I do not think the audience is ready for that change yet. They keep gravitating back to familiar storylines. Today, viewers, especially in urban India, have access to multiple platforms, and with web series wrapping up in eight or ten episodes, TV has lost some of its appeal.'

Anita Hassanandani and Aishwarya Khare join Chhoriyan Chali Gaon; Anita says 'This show gives me the opportunity to reconnect with our Indian roots'

Continuing its legacy of bringing groundbreaking non-fiction formats that reflect India's cultural richness and emotional depth, Chhoriyan Chali Gaon is all set to launch a refreshingly unique reality show. The show bridges the gap between 'India' and 'Bharat,' as it brings together 11 renowned independent women who leave behind the fast-paced luxuries of their urban lives to spend over 60 days in a rural Indian village. With no access to gadgets, conveniences, or shortcuts, the participants will take on real village chores, adapt to a slower, grounded lifestyle, and immerse themselves in the age-old wisdom of rural living. Anchored in three strong storytelling pillars — Rural Survival & Adaptation, Cultural Immersion & Emotional Growth, and Competition & Social Strategy — Chhoriyan Chali Gaon promises to be as emotionally moving as it is socially reflective. Guiding this immersive journey is Rannvijay Singha, who plays the role of host, mentor, and motivator, helping the women navigate this transformative experience. And now, adding star power to the journey are two of Indian television's most beloved faces — Anita Hassanandani and Aishwarya Khare. Known for their strong screen presence and connection with audiences, both actors are ready to step out of their comfort zones and into the raw, unfiltered world of rural life. This bold move is not just about leaving behind the glamour — it's a conscious effort to reconnect with themselves and rediscover life's simple truths. Anita Hassanandani shared, 'After years in the industry, I'm always on the lookout for projects that push me both creatively and personally and Chhoriyan Chali Gaon feels exactly like that. I've always been a city girl, but I've deeply admired the strength, resilience, and authenticity of women in rural India. This show gives me the opportunity to reconnect with our Indian roots, live a life that's grounded, and challenge myself in ways I've never imagined. One of the toughest parts, though, will be staying away from my little one. As a mother, every moment apart tugs at my heart, but I also believe it's important for him to see his mother embracing new experiences. I'm especially looking forward to bonding with the other amazing chhoriyan on this journey. We're all so different, yet united by the same courage to take this plunge. It's going to be beautiful, messy, emotional, and I can't wait.' Aishwarya Khare added, 'When I first heard about the concept of Chhoriyan Chali Gaon, I was instantly drawn to its heart and soul. It's not every day that you get the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, away from the sets, beyond the lights, and live a life that's completely different. The rural setting, the real people, and the challenge of adapting to a lifestyle so far removed from my own truly excites me. People have known me and loved me as Lakshmi, but this is the first time I'll get to be Aishwarya—raw, and real, discovering uncharted parts of myself. I'm looking forward to learning, unlearning, and most importantly, evolving. It's going to be raw, emotional, and incredibly empowering.' Chhoriyan Chali Gaon: Anita Hassanandani To Ditch Glam For Village Life In New Show

Last Updated: A few promos of Chhoriyan Chali Gaon have already introduced some of the contestants, and the latest one confirms Anita Hassanandani's participation. Salman Khan fans have to wait a little longer for Bigg Boss 19, while a new reality show titled Chhoriyan Chali Gaon is catching everyone's eye with its fresh concept. The show features well-known actresses who will experience village life. A few promos have already introduced some of the contestants, and the latest one confirms that Naagin star Anita Hassanandani will be joining the show, hosted by Rannvijay Singha. The latest promo released by ZeeTV introduces the actress as one of the most stylish and popular vamps on Indian television. The video begins with some stunning shots of Anita, showing her glamorous side. But she opens up about her fears and shares that she is really scared that there might be ghosts in the village. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Zee TV (@zeetv) While the release date is not confirmed yet, Anita Hassanandani, in a recent interview with News18 Showsha, speaking about Chhoriyan Chali Gaon, said, 'In the show, you will see the real side of me. I will be in no make-up and less decked up. We will be doing what village people do, we'll be interacting with them. It's going to be a different show. It's more real. I took it up mostly because it's a different concept. It has all the flavours you need in a successful show. It has fun, it has comic elements, it has the cuteness, it has emotions, it has, you know, task-like, competitive nature. I think all the qualities that are needed in a successful show, I think are there in this show, and I just hope that the show does really well." 'My strategy is simple – go in with an open heart and mind, give 100 per cent, and try to win as many tasks as possible. I'm not overthinking, just diving into every stunt and learning everything I can. I want to come back saying, 'I did this!' It's a whole new adventure for me at this stage in life, and I'm really excited," the actress added. Revealing her plans to take part in Bigg Boss in the future, Anita Hassanandani said that she's not sure. Right now, she just wants to enjoy the moment and focus on Chhoriyan Chali Gaon. Other contestants include Aishwarya Khare, Rameet Sandhu, Surabhi Mehra and Samridhi Mehra. view comments First Published: July 15, 2025, 18:50 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
