The body of a 19-year-old Delhi University student was recovered from the Yamuna near the Geeta Colony flyover in east Delhi. The woman was reported missing on July 7. Police had initially believed that the woman had been kidnapped, until her family found a note in her bedroom suggesting that she intended to take her own life by jumping off Signature Bridge, officers said. Boats, divers, and drones were deployed to search the river from Nigam Bodh Ghat to downstream areas near Noida. The woman is believed to have died by suicide. (Representational image) The family, originally from Tripura, lives in an apartment complex in south Delhi. The woman is a second year undergraduate student at a college in south Delhi. 'The woman's sister approached police on July 7 and said she had been missing since 5pm. The woman had left her house saying she was going to Sarai Rohilla Railway Station to drop a friend. Her mother took note of the phone number of the cab driver who came home to take her to the station,' said deputy commissioner of police (south) Ankit Chauhan. 'Around 8.45pm, when the woman didn't return home and her phone became switched off, her family called the friend who she had said she was going to drop at the railway station. But the friend said the woman didn't meet her. We questioned the cab driver, who told us that he had dropped the woman at Signature Bridge,' he added. 'Technical surveillance corroborated the cab driver's testimony, placing the woman's mobile phone location at Signature Bridge shortly after she left home,' said a senior police officer. Police registered a case on charges of kidnapping and began a probe. However, later that day, her family a note in her bedroom suggesting that she intended to take her own life by jumping off Signature Bridge, police said. Eyewitnesses at Signature Bridge reported seeing a young woman standing on the edge of the bridge. Moments later, she was no longer in sight. The Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams quickly began searching the Yamuna, using drones to scan inaccessible patches of the river. Investigators reached out to the woman's friends who said that she had been under emotional distress for the past few months. On the morning of July 7, she had sent messages via email and WhatsApp that hinted at her mental state, police said. These are now being examined as part of the investigation, police said. On Saturday, Tripura chief minister Manik Saha had asked the police to take steps to rescue the woman. 'The report of the woman, a resident of Sabroom who has reportedly gone missing in New Delhi, has come to the notice of the chief minister's office. Necessary instructions have been promptly issued to the police to take immediate and appropriate action,' the CMO said on X. Delhi Man's Phone Snatched On Road, Then Wife's Extramarital Affair Emerges

New Delhi: A phone-snatching incident has led to shocking revelation in Delhi and exposed an extramarital affair. The man, whose phone was snatched by two men on a scooty, has found out that it was planned by his wife. The man had initially lodged a complaint at a South Delhi police station and moved on. But then, the police investigated, scanned footage of 70 CCTV cameras, and found that his wife had orchestrated the snatching to hide a secret - her intimate pictures with a lover. According to the South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ankit Chauhan, on June 19, the police received information about a man's phone being snatched near the Old UK Paint Factory. Police registered a case and started the investigation. The police scanned footage of 70 CCTV cameras installed in the area and spotted the accused wearing a blue t-shirt. The police also found the scooter's registration number, which was rented for a day from Daryaganj, from Vasant Kunj's Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera. With the Aadhar card and mobile number of the person who rented the scooty, the team reached Balotra in Barmer district of Rajasthan and arrested one of the accused, Ankit Gehlot, who then laid open the motive behind the snatching. Ankit said he was hired by the victim's wife, who was having an extramarital affair with another man. According to Ankit, the woman's intimate pictures with her lover were saved in her husband's phone. She wanted to delete them and therefore orchestrated the snatching. She shared the details about her husband's daily routine, office timings and route with Ankit. The police have recovered the stolen mobile phone from Ankit and arrested both Ankit and the victim's wife. According to media reports, the victim was aware of his wife's affair and had transferred the pictures to his phone while she was sleeping. When the woman found out about it, she was scared of being exposed in front of her family.

Man's phone snatched in Delhi — turns out wife planned it to hide affair

When two men on a scooter snatched a 25-year-old man's phone in South Delhi's Sultanpur on June 19, while he was on his way home from work, he blamed it on his ill luck. Fifteen days later, police recovered his phone and identified the person who orchestrated the theft — it was none other than his wife. According to investigators, the woman allegedly arranged for the phone to be stolen because it contained photographs of her in an intimate relationship with another man. The woman has now been 'bound down', meaning she is legally required to appear before the investigating officer or court on specified dates. The couple, who hail from Rajasthan, got married one and a half years ago, said police. 'Before their marriage, the woman was in love with another man who lived in her neighbourhood… Their relationship never ended. Even after her wedding, they would frequently meet. And some months ago, the husband got a whiff of it…,' an officer said. 'He wanted to catch her red-handed. So, while she was sleeping, he checked her phone and found intimate photos of her and the other man. He then transferred the photos to his phone… When the woman realised her husband had found the photos, she was horrified at the prospect of being exposed in front of her family. So, she called the other man and planned the snatching,' the officer added. Police said that in the first week of June, the man and a friend arrived in Delhi from Rajasthan. 'They tracked the husband's movement, got information about vehicle rental services, sorted out hotel reservations, and returned to Rajasthan. They returned to Delhi on June 18. The next day, two masked men snatched the husband's phone,' the officer said. According to the police, the incident took place when the husband was near a factory in Sultanpur on July 19. 'A PCR call was received by the Fatehpur Beri police station regarding a mobile phone snatching near Old UK Paint Factory… The complainant reported that two masked persons on a scooter snatched his mobile phone and fled,' DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said. A team led by SHO Rajesh Sharma of Fatehpur Beri police station was formed to crack the case. Around 70 CCTVs were assessed, and a man in a blue T-shirt was spotted riding pillion on a scooter heading towards Vasant Kunj. When the police checked the vehicle's number plate, it turned out to be a rented one, said officers. 'It was found that the scooter had been rented from Daryaganj for a day on June 19,' DCP Chauhan said. When the police visited the rental shop, officers obtained the details of the accused, as they had handed over an Aadhaar card number as proof of identity. The phone number in the Aadhaar card was put under surveillance, which revealed that the accused had fled to Rajasthan after the incident, police said. Officers said that considering the amount the accused paid for the scooter and a trip to Barmer, they realised that the theft was not carried out for money. 'The accused were traced to Balotra in Barmer. A team was dispatched to Rajasthan, and the friend was apprehended. The snatched mobile phone was recovered from his possession,' Chauhan said. During questioning, the friend allegedly admitted that the snatching was carried out on the orders of the complainant's wife, confirming the assumptions of the police, said an officer. 'The woman allegedly told the accused when her husband would return from the office, and the route he would take,' the officer added. The woman was bound down on Wednesday. She has admitted to the crime, police said.
