Missing 16-year-old boy found dead in landfill, MN cops say. Dad in custody

A 16-year-old boy last seen with his dad was found dead following a weekslong search through a 4-foot-deep plot of a landfill, Minnesota deputies and local news outlets said. Now, deputies have taken the 38-year-old father of Jordan 'Manny' Collins Jr. into custody in connection with his son's death, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said in a July 7 Facebook post. He is held in Anoka County Jail, according to records, but deputies said he has not been formally charged. McClatchy News is not naming the father because he has not been charged. A video shared with law enforcement indicated Manny's body was placed in a dumpster, which was then picked up by a garbage truck and taken to Waste Management Landfill in Elk River, deputies said. The search for Manny's body, which was concentrated to a plot that is 200 feet by 200 feet by 4 feet, took four weeks, deputies said. The search started in early June and continued until his body was found on June 30, the sheriff's office said. He was last seen on May 8. 'Since that day, my life has been turned upside down,' Manny's mother wrote in a GoFundMe. Officials said the investigation into the teen's death is ongoing.

4-week search through landfill ends with discovery of missing teen, MN cops say

A weekslong search through a 4-foot-tall section of a landfill ended when a missing 16-year-old boy's body was found, Minnesota deputies said. Jordan 'Manny' Collins Jr. was last seen on May 8 in Columbia Heights, but no phone or social media activity appeared since, Anoka County deputies said. 'Since that day, my life has been turned upside down. Every moment of every day has been focused on finding him— talking to authorities, sharing his story, posting flyers, and following every lead possible. My heart is breaking, but I refuse to stop looking,' Manny's mother wrote in a GoFundMe. Later in the month, deputies said one person of interest had been identified, but no one was in custody as hundreds searched for Manny, according to a May 28 update. That person's identity was not revealed. A search through the Waste Management Landfill in Elk River started in early June, and Manny's body was identified on June 30, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said on July 1. 'I assure you it's a sobering experience to work in a landfill like that only to discover someone else's child,' Anoka County Sheriff Brad Wise said during a news conference. A video located Manny's body in a dumpster in Columbia Heights, then into a garbage truck, where it was taken to the landfill, authorities said. Workers at the landfill identified a plot that is 200 feet by 200 feet by 4 feet where the garbage truck dropped off the waste, according to officials, prompting a four-week search. Manny's cause of death is under investigation by the medical examiner's office, officials said. Investigators believe Manny was taken 'against his will,' they told WCCO. The teen was last seen with his father, with whom he had been staying, KMSP reported. Manny's mother told the outlet the father was not cooperating with the investigation. Officials said the investigation is ongoing. Columbia Heights is a 5-mile drive north from Minneapolis.

Boy killed outside Northtown Mall: Man charged, two suspects still at large

Boy killed outside Northtown Mall: Man charged, two suspects still at large originally appeared on Bring Me The News. Authorities have charged a Blaine man in connection with a shooting outside the city's Northtown Mall that killed a teenage boy Friday. Two additional suspects are not yet in custody, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday. Ayub Abdullahi Mohamed, 20, was arrested Friday as officers responded to the shooting. He's with one count of aiding an offender to avoid arrest in connection with the ongoing investigation. The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. Friday in the Best Buy parking lot, with officers arriving to find 15-year-old Sudais Abdi Omar, of Brooklyn Park, suffering a gunshot wound to the chest. Omar was taken to the hospital, where he died. According to the criminal complaint, a store employee who called 911 said he saw three male suspects flee into the mall and then out the door towards Sky Zone. Police found Mohamed, who matched a suspect description provided by witnesses, in the Sky Zone bathroom, charges state. The other two suspects in the investigation are boys ages 14 and 15, according to the criminal complaint, which refers to them Suspect #1 and Suspect #2. Mohamed allegedly told police he was in the car with Omar and Suspect #1 and came to Best Buy to pick up Suspect #2, who had been waiting outside. Mohamed claimed he did not witness the shooting, but was walking back out to the car after using the bathroom when he saw the two suspects running back into Best Buy and screaming that Omar had been shot. According to the complaint, Mohamed told investigators he saw Omar laying on the ground. The two other suspects were pacing the parking lot and the second suspect handed him a gun magazine, which police later found in one of Mohamed's socks, he allegedly said. Mohamed and the two suspects then ran away from Omar, charges state. Mohamed told police he tried to call the other suspects while inside Sky Zone, but his calls were declined. Authorities have not indicated what might've motivated the shooting. This story was originally reported by Bring Me The News on Jun 10, 2025, where it first appeared.
