Discom gives TOD discounts of over Rs 5 crore to eight lakh consumers of Indore-Ujjain division
Indore: Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Ltd (MPPKVVCL) has granted Time of Day (TOD) discounts amounting to over Rs 5.72 crore to more than eight lakh consumers of Indore-Ujjain division in bills issued in June for power consumption in May. Acting on Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission's directive to provide TOD discounts on daytime electricity consumption for general domestic consumers, MPPKVVCL recorded its most effective implementation in Malwa-Nimar region, particularly in cities like Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Mhow, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Dhar, Khargone, Thandla, and Jhabua. The largest share of this benefit went to four lakh consumers in Indore city. This high number in Indore is primarily due to installation of approximately 5.25 lakh smart meters in the city. Smart meters, which meticulously record hourly consumption data, significantly eased the billing section of MPPKVVCL in calculating consumption as per TOD scheme. Under the current TOD discount order, domestic consumers receive a 20 percent rebate on the energy charge for consumption recorded between 9 am and 5 pm. For instance, if a consumer uses 200 units in a month, and 150 of those units are consumed during 9 am to 5 pm 'solar energy period,' they receive a 20 percent discount on the energy charge for those 150 units. With current energy charges ranging between Rs 6 and Rs 7 per unit, the total energy charge for 150 units during this period would be around Rs 900 to Rs 950, leading to a discount of approximately Rs 180. MPPKVVCL MD Anoop Kumar Singh said that the TOD discount was provided in compliance with the Commission's order. He confirmed that over Rs 5.72 crore in discounts were given on 8.21 lakh bills for May's consumption. The objective of this discount is to encourage domestic consumers to utilise green energy by performing most of their daily tasks during the daytime, thereby reducing reliance on electricity generated from water and coal.
