Flask Movie Review: A light-hearted comedy anchored by earnest turns
What truly stays with you is the gradual softening of Jyoti and Venkitesh toward each other. Suresh Krishna plays the judge with a certain rigidity that works, even if the character feels one-note for most of the film. It is only toward the final stretch that we begin to see a man behind the robe. Their exchanges in captivity are not dramatic but honest, often coloured by fear, memory, and a grudging respect that develops over time. Jyoti's growth, from a careless constable to someone who begins to value his position and life, feels earned. There are moments of vulnerability that Saiju plays with an unaffected charm, making Jyoti one of the more endearing everyman cop characters in recent memory. There is also an echo here of his earlier turn as a singing policeman in Antakshari, a film where music was tethered to dread rather than nostalgia. Yet, despite the thematic overlap, Saiju brings a distinctly different energy to Jyoti. This is not a man tormented by melodies, but someone clinging to them as a fading comfort, as if they are all that remain of the life he once imagined for himself. The rest of the supporting cast also play their parts with conviction, most of them subtly shaping the dynamics between Jyoti and Venkitesh.

Jam Packed Jam sessions
With a burgeoning population of young people from across the country making their way to the city, Bengaluru has come more alive with diverse communities formed, yearning for connection. From boardgame sessions and reading meetups to vinyl listening sessions – you name it, Bengaluru has a club or community for it. A latest addition are jam sessions, which are thriving with several different communities popping up in the last year. 'We started in 2023 when there were only a few jamming communities. In the last one and a half years, it has become quite big – almost every week, there's a new jamming event popping up,' notes Giridhar Rai, founder of Bajabies, a jamming community, adding, 'I've also seen a lot of cafes organising them because it increases footfall.' A typical jam session involves a couple of musicians starting a song, with the rest of the crowd joining in spirited singing, like one big game of unstructured Antakshari. As Elvin Ady, one of the co-founders of Mic n' Mehfil, explains, the appeal seems to be the jam sessions' free-flowing format and inclusivity, regardless of musical abilities. 'To be honest, I am a horrible singer, but jam sessions are not just for people who sing but also for those who listen. It's about giving people a space to sing without any judgment.' But what makes it different from an intimate concert or open mic? Anushka Modi, the co-founder of Maybe It's A Jam, shares, 'The engagement is much more than a usual band or concert, we make them feel like performers.' These sessions and their warm environment have also helped people shed their inhibitions, notes Mamta Nayak, a frequent attendee, saying, 'The energy is such that you automatically start to sing, even shy people go up on stage and join in.'

Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Fell In Love On Bhansali's Film Set, Recalls Co-star: 'Their Affair...'
Smita Jaykar recalls Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai's affair during Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam shoot, says their chemistry elevated the film. Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai's love story remains one of the most iconic and talked-about relationships in Bollywood history. The two fell in love while shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic drama Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), and according to their co-star Smita Jaykar, their real-life romance deeply impacted the film's magic. In a recent conversation with Filmymantra Media, veteran actress Smita Jaykar, who played Aishwarya's mother in the film, opened up about witnessing their bond develop on set. 'Yes, they fell in love there. Their affair flourished there. And it helped the film a lot," she said. 'Both of them had those moony-moony eyes, and romance was showing on their faces. That worked very well for the film." Recalling the warmth of the set, Smita shared how the entire cast and crew bonded like a family. 'We used to sit and play Antakshari. It was like a picnic," she reminisced. Smita also reflected on her experience working with Salman Khan and Aishwarya individually. 'Salman is quite a brat. I don't know how he is now, but at that time he was. He's a very nice person, large-hearted. I haven't seen him angry on set. People tend to exaggerate anger when it comes to celebrities," she noted. Of Aishwarya, she said, 'Very beautiful, even without makeup. Very humble, very grounded—at least at that time when I knew her." Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is regarded as one of the most visually rich and emotionally stirring love stories in Indian cinema. With soulful music by Ismail Darbar and a moving story of love and sacrifice, the film became a huge box office success and received numerous accolades. While the film marked the beginning of Salman and Aishwarya's romance, their relationship ended in 2002. Aishwarya went on to marry actor Abhishek Bachchan, while Salman remains one of Bollywood's most eligible bachelors. First Published:
