13 Longhorns named to Preseason All-SEC Team

On Friday afternoon, the preseason All-SEC Team was finally revealed. The Texas Longhorns, who finished last year just two wins short of a national title, were well represented. Thirteen Longhorns made the list, with many familiar faces adding to their trophy cases. The Longhorns' first team selections included running back Quintrevion Wisner, offensive lineman DJ Campbell, EDGE Collins Simmons, linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., and defensive back Michael Taffe. On the second team were wide receiver Ryan Wingo, defensive back Malik Muhammad, and punter Jack Bouwmeester. Rounding out the Longhorns on the third team were quarterback Arch Manning, tight end Jack Endries, offensive lineman Trevor Goosby, linebacker Trey Moore, and kickoff specialist Will Stone. A few players on this list are in familiar territory. It marks the second straight year that Hill Jr., Muhammad, Moore, and Stone received Preseason All-SEC recognition. Last year, Hill Jr., Muhammad, and Stone were named to the second Team, while Moore was named to the third Team. As the Longhorns look to build on their success from last year, their offense will take on a slightly different look. For the time in his college career, Arch Manning will begin the season as the starting QB. In 10 games last year, the New Orleans native showed his star potential, completing 61 of his 90 passes for 939 yards. He also found the end zone nine times. In just a few weeks, the Longhorns' offseason will come to an end when they take on Ohio State. Their season opener is set for Aug. 30 in Columbus against the defending champs. For Texas, it represents a great opportunity for them to prove themselves early on. Friday's All-SEC selections provided a reminder that this Longhorns team has the talent to accomplish some special things. If they can meet their expectations, then there will be multiple reasons for Longhorns fans to celebrate in the fall. "Projects as a P4/high-major defensive piece whose ultimate positional home could depend on scheme/staff. Owns physical traits and natural athleticism that could lead to long-term NFL Draft candidacy."
