Council says no plans to downgrade Ammanford library
In the past week, there has been speculation among Ammanford residents about Ammanford Public Library becoming a 'self-service' facility without the presence of staff. However, these concerns have been swept aside by the county council, which implies the library will receive an upgrade rather than a downgrade. A spokesperson for Carmarthenshire County Council said: 'There are absolutely no plans to downgrade Ammanford library 'In fact, Carmarthenshire Libraries is exploring plans to enhance Ammanford Library by introducing a digitally integrated service model, in response to public consultation earlier this year. 'These changes aim to strengthen the library's role by combining innovative technology, like self-checkout kiosks, intelligent reservation shelves, and Wi-Fi-enabled printing and scanning, with continued staff support. 'Staff will remain essential, using freed-up time to assist customers needing extra help and to engage with the community. 'The library's core services, and book stock will stay the same. These proposals reflect our commitment to a modern, inclusive, and sustainable service that meets community needs.' Despite claiming staff will remain 'essential' in the library, some locals were under the impression that people would lose their jobs, but the county council has refuted this theory. A spokesperson for the county council continued: 'We can confirm that no one will lose their job as a result of this change, and we are committed to having continued staff presence to support library users at Ammanford. "We are proud of the service that we are providing at Ammanford library and the key role that it plays in supporting users, both young and old. 'We are simply looking to develop a high-quality, accessible and efficient library service, taking advantage of modern technology." Nevertheless, a member of Ammanford Town Council has criticised the county council for making another decision behind 'closed doors.' Ammanford town councillor Anthony Jones said: 'I was totally unaware of this until this week. CCC is taking decisions behind closed doors as with the town hall and town council eviction, which is causing major problems to council business.' Meanwhile, on the Protect Ammanford Library page on Facebook, admin John Driver said: 'Did anyone here participate in this public consultation or even hear about it?' Mr Driver also expressed the importance of the library for hosting story time, book club, school visits, Lego play sessions besides being used by occupational health patients and youth groups.

Upgrade for crumbling coastal path with stunning views of North Wales icons
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A popular coastal path with some of the most dramatic views in Wales is to be upgraded after falling into disrepair. Each year, tens of thousands of people walk or cycle the route along the banks of the Conwy Estuary. In recent years the path has begun to degrade and cycling charity Sustrans worries this is starting to affect its usage. After heavy rain, it becomes almost impassable as huge puddles form on its uneven surface. Resurfacing work is now planned for the path at Deganwy. This section forms part of the Conwy Estuary Trail, a 3km walking and cycling route that links Deganwy and Llandudno's West Shore. It is part of the Wales Coastal Path. Each year an estimated 429,871 walking and cycling trips are made on the trail, which gives views towards Conwy Castle and the town's quay and marina, backed by the mountains of Eryri. An economic analysis in 2019 estimated that, were the 3km trail to fully upgraded, it could attract almost 600,000 users each year – almost as many as those who visit Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). Sustrans will soon be organising improvements on the Deganwy section to enhance the path's 'quality and usability'. The resurfacing work is being funded by the Welsh Government. Join the North Wales Live WhatsApp community group where you can get the latest stories delivered straight to your phone As the Conwy Estuary is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Sustrans has liaised with Natural Resources Wales to ensure marine habitats are not disturbed during the work. An on-site ecologist will be employed for pre-nesting survey checks. (Image: Anthony Jones/Sustrans) Anthony Jones, network development manager at Sustrans, said: 'It's very clear to us just how important this route is to the people who live in this part of Conwy, as well as its role in tourism here. 'This is a very popular route by an important ecological site here in North Wales, so we need to ensure we're doing everything we can to ensure the route's quality and accessibility for everyone.' The works are due to be completed by the end of 2025. The aim is then to 'celebrate' the resurfaced route with led walks and rides the following spring. As the Conwy Estuary Trail incorporates Route 5 on the National Cycle Network, Sustrans said it is one of the most popular cycling routes in North Wales. Route 5 runs from Holyhead to Reading, spanning a massive 367 miles. 'This is an especially popular and well-used section of National Cycle Network,' added the charity. Texas A&M Football Secures Top Three Spot with Oregon and Alabama for Five-Star Edge Rusher Anthony 'Tank' Jones
Texas A&M Football Secures Top Three Spot with Oregon and Alabama for Five-Star Edge Rusher Anthony 'Tank' Jones originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Texas A&M football is in the running for many elite, four- and five-star recruits. On defense, especially, the Aggies are pulling in recruit after recruit. They have four-star edge rushers Tristian Givens, Jordan Carter, and Samu Moala committed with hopes to land KJ Ford soon. Advertisement Now, another edge has officially entered the mix as he revealed Texas A&M is one of his top three schools he's considering committing to. Texas A&M Aggies head coach Mike Lysaker-USA TODAY Sports Anthony "Tank" Jones is a five-star recruit from Mobile, Ala. and is the No. 16 overall recruit from the class of 2026. He's also the No. 3 edge rusher and No. 2 student-athlete from Alabama. Now with his decision date approaching, Jones announced that Oregon, Alabama, and Texas A&M have made the cut for his final three. The Aggies and Ducks are working simultaneously to pluck Jones out of his home state and get his impressive talents on their fields. Advertisement As a junior, he tallied 84 tackles, including 18 tackles for loss. Jones added an additional 16 sacks on his and his St. Paul Episcopal High School team's way to the second round of their playoffs. His eyes on the field are impressive, matching his 230-plus pound frame while his speed threatens opposing offensive linemen. Cooper Petagna wrote in the rising junior' scouting report: "[Jones is a] physically imposing pass rusher in possession of a high octane motor that allows him to generate pressures in both a two or three point stance while operating in an odd front . . . [he] displays a collegiate ready frame in conjunction with an explosive lower half that bodes well for his ability to make an impact sooner rather than later at the next level." Jones is also a three-sport athlete, playing basketball and competing in track and field at his high school as well. He won the discus state championship in the 2024-25 season with a 161-5 toss. His 56-3.75 shot put rep led him to second place. Advertisement Jones' most recent visit was with Alabama on June 20. Out of the three schools, College Station was his first stop on June 5 and followed by Oregon the next weekend. He would be an intense addition to the Aggies class of 2026. If Jones decides on Texas A&M, though, it'll be hard work for head coach Mike Elko to keep other schools from flipping his commitment. 5-star EDGE Anthony 'Tank' Jones puts Oregon football among top schools
The Oregon Ducks are in the midst of a summer hot streak on the recruiting trail, landing six commitments over the last month, and four over the last week. Two of these six players are 5-star recruits, with safety Jett Washington and OT Immanuel Iheanacho headlining the group. The Ducks aren't done yet, though. There are still several highly rated players that Dan Lanning and his staff are targeting, many of whom are scheduled to announce their commitments over the next month. Advertisement One of those players, 5-star edge rusher Anthony 'Tank' Jones, announced on Thursday that he is cutting down his recruitment to three schools, including Oregon, alongside the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M Aggies. Jones stands at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, and is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 16 player and No. 3 EDGE in the 2026 class. Jones took an official visit to Eugene in June, and while the leader in his recruitment is perceived to be Alabama, the Ducks are certainly in the running and could pull off a stunner. Jones does not yet have a commitment date set, but he will continue to narrow down his prospects over the coming weeks and months and choose his final destination before signing day in December, at the latest.
