KUALA LUMPUR: A karaoke bar in Medan Imbi offering the services of guest relation officers (GROs) was raided by police early today. The raid, carried out around 12.30am, involved a team from the D7 (Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division) and D9 (Serious Crimes Division) of the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters. Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a 49-year-old local woman believed to be the caretaker was present at the premises. "Checks at the premises revealed 73 women suspected of being GROs.," he said when contacted. The GROs, aged 24 to 40, included three locals, 52 Thais, five Vietnamese, two Chinese, six Laotian, and five Indonesians. All were detained. "Inspection of their documents revealed that all of them had misused tourist visas to work at the premises," Rusdi said. He said 68 of the foreign nationals had valid travel documents, while two did not. A total of 145 workers and customers were taken to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters for urine tests. Rusdi added the entertainment outlet allegedly used GROs to attract patrons, with tips ranging from RM100 to RM500. Married couple arrested for prostitution and distribution of pornographic videos

KUALA LUMPUR: A married couple was arrested at a hotel in Shah Alam on Tuesday (July 1) for alleged involvement in prostitution and the distribution of pornographic videos via social media. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the couple, aged 34, was detained at 8pm by a team from the D7 (Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies) division of the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters. Preliminary investigations revealed that the husband acted as the content creator, promoting and selling pornographic videos featuring his wife and their clients, while also managing a prostitution ring to generate income. "His wife acted as the prostitute, playing the lead role in the videos. They earned up to RM6,400 a week," he said. "They targeted clients via the X platform to sell their pornographic videos, while prostitution activities were coordinated through Telegram," he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 2). Rusdi added that their fees ranged from RM450 to RM800 at a four-star hotel, while pornographic videos were priced at RM50 and RM150. "The couple has been remanded for three days until July 4. The case is being investigated under Sections 372(1), 372B and 372A of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said. - Bernama

20 held in illegal KTV lounge raid catering only to Myanmar nationals

KUALA LUMPUR: A KTV-style entertainment outlet operating illegally in Bandar Manjalara was found offering two private karaoke rooms exclusively for Myanmar nationals. The outlet also provided guest relation officer (GRO) services to foreign patrons. The operation was uncovered during Op Noda, a raid conducted by the Kuala Lumpur police Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) at 12.10am. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said 20 Myanmar nationals, aged between 18 and 39, were arrested during the raid. "They included seven women suspected of working as GROs, a caretaker, another employee, and 11 male customers," he said in a statement today. Police also seized audio equipment, a decoder, tablets, alcoholic beverages, sales receipt books, and cash. Preliminary investigations revealed that the outlet had no business licence and was employing undocumented foreign workers. Rusdi said the outlet operated as a KTV karaoke lounge and catered exclusively to Myanmar nationals. "Some of the foreign detainees were found to have overstayed their social visit passes or were without valid identification documents," he added. The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 76 of the Excise Act 1976, and Section 4(1) of the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur Entertainment Act 1992.

Jungle jackpot busted: Hundreds nabbed in Sungai Buloh gambling raid

SUNGAI BULOH: Hundreds of gamblers, engaged in cockfighting and illegal lottery activities, were arrested during a raid by Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in a wooded area near Melwood Arena, not far from Sungai Buloh Hospital. The operation, part of Op Dadu Mega, was carried out by a team from Bukit Aman's Anti-Vice, Gambling, and Secret Societies Division (D7) on Sunday. The raid followed surveillance that began in October last year, focusing on illegal gambling activities, specifically cockfighting, dice games, and unlicensed public lotteries, which had been believed to be ongoing for the past eight months. Bukit Aman CID deputy director (Intelligence/Operations) Datuk Fadil Marsus said that prior to the operation, the raiding team conducted aerial surveillance with the assistance of the Police Air Wing's Drone Unit to monitor gambling activities. This led to the ambush of the forested area, which had been transformed into a makeshift gambling arena.
