(PTI) Along with distributing relief, Thakur also issued necessary instructions to officials regarding relief and rehabilitation work. 'The scale of the natural disaster in Himachal, especially in the Mandi region is extremely alarming. The tragedy has caused damage worth thousands of crores, and the loss of life and property is deeply distressing,' he said. 'In this hour of grief, the BJP has remained active on the ground to support the people. We have distributed relief material such as ration, utensils, medicines, and provided medical assistance—and we will continue to do so. Our elected representatives are doing their part and will keep working. As for central government support, the army and NDRF have extended help in the past, and the Centre continues to do so. There has never been any shortage of support from the Centre—and there never will be,' he said. State govt committed to provide all possible help: Health minister Meanwhile, Himachal health minister Dhani Ram Shandil also visited the disaster affected areas in Seraj on Monday and took stock of the damage and relief and rehabilitation work. He met the disaster affected people and expressed the commitment of the state government to stand united with them and provide all possible help. He said that the state government has taken effective steps for relief and rehabilitation work in Seraj assembly constituency. 'The state government has released seven crore rupees to the Seraj area with immediate effect. The families who became homeless in the disaster will be provided ₹7 lakh for house construction and five thousand rupees per month as house rent for six months. The state government will also give compensation for the goods and livestock of damaged houses,' the minister said. Shandil said that the revenue officials have been instructed to assess all types of damage. 'The damage caused to flower cultivation and apple cultivation will be assessed. The state government will consider bringing a one-time policy for rehabilitating the disaster affected people,' he said. Waive off KCC loans of disaster affected people: Jai Ram Meanwhile, leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said that due to the disaster, all structures related to horticulture, agriculture and floriculture have been completely destroyed. 'These sectors are the main sources of livelihood for the people here and their devastation has left many struggling. Many farmers had undertaken this work by taking loans through the Kisan Credit Card. Now, with everything destroyed, the loans remain while the means to repay them are gone. Therefore, I urge the government to make arrangements to waive off the Kisan Credit Card loans of the disaster-affected people so they can be spared the double burden of a natural disaster and bank interest,' he said.

BJP's Anurag Thakur urges Himachal govt to take serious action on devastation by flash floods, heavy rains
Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 14 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur on Monday urged the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government to look into the devastation occurred to flash floods and heavy rainfall in Thunag bazaar area of Mandi district with 'seriousness.' Speaking to ANI, Thakur pointed that a mass destruction has been occurred in the area and it will cost in lakhs for people to rebuild their shops and homes. The BJP MP said, 'When you come here, you will see what a natural disaster looks like... There are many people here whose homes have been destroyed and shops devastated. In Thunag's market, where the mud was up to 12 feet high, the damage runs into lakhs. Now, people have to spend thousands to clear the mud, and setting up their shops again will cost them lakhs more. The compensation, however, is Rs 2500. What will happen in Rs 2500?' 'I urge the state government should look into this matter with great seriousness... I feel that government employees and officials need to step up their efforts... We do not want to play politics on this issue...' he added. Thunag in Mandi district is severely affected by the torrential rains and flash floods on the night of June 30 and July 1. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for six districts of Himachal Pradesh, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days, while also cautioning about continued rain activity across the state till July 20. MP report card: Sittings enough if Opposition allows House to work without disruptions, says Anurag Thakur
As the 18th Lok Sabha completes its first year, here's a look at four-time MP Anurag Thakur's performance in the lower House of Parliament and his plans for the constituency. As the 18th Lok Sabha completes its first year, here's a look at four-time MP Anurag Thakur's performance in the lower House of Parliament and his plans for the constituency. (HT File) How would you describe your first-year experience? The year has brought an enriching experience for me. The party entrusted me to start the debate by thanksgiving motion. I spoke on the budget, all important debates, be it triple talaq or constitutional debate. I am part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of 'One Nation, One Election'. I was also part of the MPs delegation that went on the four-nation tour post Operation Sindoor. The party has given me enough work. I was made a star campaigner by the party. What was the high point of the year for you personally and your party in the House? The budget speech that I made set the narrative. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself tweeted my speech and his tweet came as a pat on the back which for me personally was the high point. Congress had tried to create a 'fake narrative' on the Constitution and caste census which I had countered. Are you satisfied with the number of sittings of the Lok Sabha? The sittings are enough if the House is allowed to work effectively by the Opposition. This is my fourth term and I think the sittings are enough. Opposition mostly disrupts the House for non-issues and whenever they stage a walkout, they lose an opportunity to raise an issue. What is the most effective way to raise issues of public importance in the House? From Zero Hour to Rule 377 to special mentions, participation in short debates along with Question Hour — these are ways one can use to raise the issues of public participation. If one is present in the House, there is no dearth of opportunities to raise issues. What constituency-specific issues were raised by you and what are your plans ahead? The rail budget for Himachal Pradesh has seen a significant increase, with a focus on strengthening rail infrastructure. This includes the Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri line and the upgrade of four railway stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme. The Nangal-Talwara rail line project, where land acquisition was previously halted, has been revived and is back on track after Centre took up the issue with Punjab. Apart from this, four-lane work between Mataur and Shimla is on track that will improve connectivity with Kangra and I am working on the four-lane road from Jalandhar to Nadaun in Hamirpur. For the rest of the term, my priority would be to strengthen infrastructure, road and railway network and health and education. Getting big projects will mean employment opportunities for our youth.
