Exploring iOS 26 Beta 4: What's Been Added

Apple has officially released the fourth developer beta of iOS 26, showcasing a variety of updates aimed at improving functionality, enhancing visual appeal, and expanding customization options. These updates reflect Apple's ongoing commitment to refining the user experience, offering a preview of what users can anticipate in the final release. In the video below, AppleInsider delves into the most notable features and their potential impact on how you interact with your device. Liquid Glass Effects: A Visual Leap Forward The Liquid Glass feature in iOS 26 Beta 4 has received significant upgrades, introducing more dynamic and responsive effects that elevate the overall interface. These enhancements create a fluid, immersive experience, with the interface reacting seamlessly to user interactions. This feature underscores Apple's dedication to pushing design boundaries and setting new standards for visual aesthetics. While still in development, the Liquid Glass effects are expected to see further refinements in future updates, making them a standout feature of iOS 26. Dynamic Wallpapers: Personalization Made Smarter iOS 26 Beta 4 introduces dynamic wallpapers that adapt throughout the day, shifting colors to reflect the time or ambient conditions. This feature adds a layer of vibrancy and personalization to your device, complementing the existing library of static wallpapers. Whether you prefer subtle transitions or bold color changes, these dynamic wallpapers provide a fresh way to customize your iPhone's appearance. This update represents a thoughtful step toward deeper personalization, allowing users to align their device's aesthetics with their mood or style. AI-Powered News Summarization: Stay Informed, Faster Apple continues to integrate artificial intelligence into its ecosystem with the introduction of an AI-powered news summarization feature. This tool condenses lengthy articles into concise, digestible summaries, allowing users to stay informed without investing significant time. While this feature is designed to enhance convenience, Apple advises users to cross-check critical information, as AI-generated summaries may occasionally lack nuance or accuracy. This addition highlights Apple's focus on using AI to streamline everyday tasks. Call Screening: Greater Control Over Incoming Calls Managing incoming calls becomes more intuitive with the updated call screening features in iOS 26 Beta 4. Users can now silence unknown callers, reducing interruptions from spam or unverified numbers. Additionally, enhanced screening options provide greater control over how calls are handled, making sure a smoother and more personalized communication experience. These updates aim to empower users with tools to manage their time and interactions more effectively. Camera Interface: Streamlined and User-Friendly The camera app in iOS 26 Beta 4 has undergone subtle yet meaningful updates to improve usability. A new splash screen guides users through navigation changes, making it easier to access key features. The redesigned camera icon introduces a sleeker, more modern look, aligning with Apple's broader design philosophy. These updates are intended to simplify the user experience while maintaining the app's robust functionality, making sure that users can capture moments effortlessly. Lock Screen Notifications: Enhanced Readability Notifications on the lock screen have been refined to improve readability. A darkened background now enhances text contrast, making important information easier to read, particularly in low-light environments. This small but impactful change demonstrates Apple's attention to detail and commitment to improving the user experience in subtle yet meaningful ways. CarPlay Wallpapers: Fresh Choices for Your Dashboard CarPlay receives a visual refresh with the addition of six new wallpapers, available in light, dark, and dynamic modes. These options bring a modern and customizable touch to your in-car experience, allowing you to personalize your dashboard. However, to accommodate these new wallpapers, some older options have been removed. This update ensures that CarPlay remains visually appealing and aligned with the latest design trends. What's Next for iOS 26? The public beta of iOS 26 is anticipated to launch soon, offering users the opportunity to explore these features firsthand. As Apple continues to fine-tune the operating system, additional updates and enhancements are expected before the official release. Everything We Know About the ‘iPhone 17 Air'

As we enter the second half the calendar year, it's time to turn our attention to all the fun stuff our friends at Apple have been cooking up for us: and while it's no secret there's an iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max are coming soon, there's something special on the way. For the first time, Apple is bringing it's Air moniker to the iPhone, and is set to deliver a surprisingly thin entrant to the iPhone lineup this September: the iPhone 17 Air. Beyond the name—which finally fits the iPhone into the same naming convention as the iPad and MacBook product lines—we do have quite a bit of unofficial information leaked from journalists and the production line to look at. Obviously, until we have official confirmation from Apple everything in this article should be taken with a grain of salt. But if you're keen to get the scoop on what will likely be the most existing iPhone launch in recent years, read on. A dummy iPhone 17 Air | Image: AppleInsider What will the 'iPhone 17 Air' Look Like? When you imagine what an iPhone Air would look like, you're probably not far off from what Apple has in mind. The key feature of the rumoured phone will be its overall thinness and weight: Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has noted he believes, based on his sources, that the Air will shave around 2mm from the current iPhone 16 Pro, which would put it at around 6mm thick. However, other estimates put it as thin as 5.5mm and as light as 145 grams (for reference, the current iPhone 16 clocks in at 170 grams), but ultimately we won't know the proper measurements until Apple itself shows the phone off this September. We're also not entirely clear on the overall size of the display, though the common ground between each rumour is that the Air will land somewhere around the size of the iPhone 16 Plus (6.7' display)—that is, with a display measuring somewhere between 6.55' and 6.65'. That puts the phone between the 16 Pro (6.3' display) and 16 Pro Max (6.9' display), but quite a bit bigger than the base iPhone 16 (6.1'). The design of the phone isn't necessarily going to radically differ from what we've seen from Apple (or it's competition, actually), though one big difference leakers point at is the fact the iPhone 17 Air will probably only feature a single 48 megapixel fusion camera similar to the one used in 2025's iPhone 16e. This would mean a less cluttered camera bump, but also means videophiles are likely looking at sticking to the Pro and Pro Max models for another year. A full-scale render of the upcoming iPhone 17 Air | Source: Render by @asherdipps What are the likely specs of the 'iPhone 17 Air'? While the iPhone 17 will act as the base model of the new line-up, the 17 Air is actually very likely to share a lot of the technical DNA, with a few caveats here and there to account for the slimmer build. The biggest one, of course, being the battery size. Rumours all point to the new device having a sub-3,000mAh battery—considerably less than even the budget-focused iPhone 16e's 4,005mAh—which will struggle to maintain battery life for an entire day. Hardware and software optimisations could go a long way in mitigating the relatively small battery size, as well as a very likely iPhone 17 Air-compatible battery case, which will give users back some battery charge in exchange for adding bulk to what is supposed to be a thin device. Here's the rumoured tech specs of the iPhone 17 Air: Rumoured iPhone 17 Air Specs Price USD$899 / AUD$1,599 Display – 6.6' OLED Retina Display – 120Hz ProMotion – 1260 x 2736 resolution Operating System iOS 26 Internals – Processor: A19 – RAM: 8GB – 12GB – Storage: ??? Networking – 5G – Wi-Fi 7 – Bluetooth 5.3 – NFC Capable Camera 48-megapixel wide-lens fusion camera 24-megapixel front-facing camera Battery 2,800mAh – 3,000mAh Other Features – Single USB 2.0 Type-C port – Face ID – Action Button – Apple Intelligence – Rumours suggest the phone may be too thin to house a SIM tray Scroll horizontally to view full table When is the 'iPhone 17 Air' Releasing? Given Apple's propensity to launch its phones in September, it's very likely the iPhone 17 Air will launch alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, in mid September. The 16 series were launched on Friday, September 20, meaning the new line-up is likely to land on shelves on Friday, 19 September, or 26 September, 2025.

Apple Roadmap Offers M5 MacBook Pro Release Dates

A MacBook Pro is displayed inside of the Apple Carnegie Library store on May 30, 2025 in Washington, ... More DC. (Photo by) Apple's iPhone has long had a steady cadence of releases, far more constant than the Mac portfolio. The last few years have felt like a similar annual update was being put in place, yet Apple's current roadmap is patchy at best, and MacBook Pro supporters may have to wait longer than they hoped. MacBook Pro Launch Date The team at Apple Insider has laid out a potential Mac roadmap for 2025 and 2026. With 15 products on the list, it is a comprehensive look deep into 2026. That includes the highly anticipated M5 MacBook Pro and M5 MacBook Air. What the roadmap lacks is exact dates. For example, the M5 MacBook Pro release is listed as late 2025 and covers three models (presumably the MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro Max, and MacBook Pro Max). That could easily fit a mid-to-late October date that many felt Apple was using as the annual anchor. It could also coincide with a later launch in mid- to late-November, which would potentially result in only a handful of laptops being sold in December, with the bulk of retail devices arriving in January 2026. MacBook Pro First, MacBook Air To Follow Unlike the first Apple Silicon M series MacBooks, which saw the MacBook Air lead off the new hardware, the M5 series will start with the late-2025 MacBook Pro models. The consumer-focused M5 MacBook Air models are expected to arrive in the first half of 2026, with March the likely window for the macOS laptop to arrive. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch variants are expected to arrive simultaneously. MacBook Pro Refresh The M5 MacBook Pro and M5 MacBook Air models will bring more power to the platform thanks to the updated Apple Silicon M-Series chipsets, but for many Apple fans the rela update comes not with these two laptops, but with the laptops to follow. The MacBook models slated to use the M6 chipsets are also slated to bring in the new hardware additions and redesign that many are waiting for. This includes the eagerly anticipated move away from the current LCD display to a more vibrant and power-efficient OLED display... a display option that high-end Windows laptops have offered for many years. The M6 MacBooks are also expected to herald a redesign of the laptop itself with a chassis designed to be both thinner and lighter compared to the current models. Given this will line up with the 20th anniversary, it's a good moment to reinvigorate the brand and reinforce the place it has in Apple's portfolio. The MacBook Pro Needs A Heart In all this, there's one important piece of the jigsaw missing... Apple has yet to announce the M5 chipset. While there are many signs that it is coming (not least tucked away in the developer betas of macOS 26, the physical chip is nowhere to be seen. Last year's M4 was announced in early summer, but that anniversary has been and gone. That's a delay of the M5 chipset to go alongside the delay of the MacBook Pro. Far from the 12-month cycle that the iPhone has, the M4 to M5 generation is looking more like an 18-month window to reach the mid-cycle upgrade. iPhone 17 Pro could come in five brand new colors, leak suggests

There are now just two more months before the release of the next iPhone . But keen Apple fans now have a hint of what the iPhone 17 Pro might look like. If the latest rumors are to be believed, the iPhone might be even more eye-catching than ever before with five brand new colors. And, according to renders created by Apple Insider, the iPhone 17 Pro will be available in one very 'unusual' color. This bold new color is widely expected to be a striking 'fluorescent' orange, potentially marking a major change in Apple's design style. This bold new look could be released alongside the more conventional options of Dark Blue, Grey, Black, and Silver. These potential colors were suggested by veteran Apple leaker Sonny Dickson , who shared an image of the lens protection rings supposedly for the upcoming iPhone. On social media, the bold new color has divided Apple fans, with one commenter calling it 'the worst color of a phone I have ever seen.' Mr Dickson, who has a business selling framed and refurbished iPhones, suggests that the 'orange' color could be a copper or dark gold, which would be more in keeping with Apple's usual offerings for the Pro model. However, a separate leak by Macworld suggests that this will not be the case. Macworld claimed to have accessed 'an internal document with the Pantone colors used as a reference for designing and building the new iPhones'. This document reportedly gave the reference for the orange tone as color named 'TCX Papaya', which is a bright, saturated orange. If true, this would be a significant departure from the muted and metallic designs Apple has favored for the Pro and Pro Max lines in recent years. On social media, many fans greeted the news of a more colorful iPhone lineup with excitement. Apple commentator Majin Bu shared a render of what the new iPhone may look like, writing: 'iPhone 17 Pro Orange looks amazing.' 'The orange on the next iPhone Pro is kinda hot,' chimed in another. Another fan added: 'I might buy an iPhone for the first time if they launch it in orange. Just loved that color.' However, not everyone was convinced that these new designs were a step in the right direction. 'iPhone 17 Pro in orange looks very bad,' one commenter wrote. While another slammed the design as 'the ugliest color they have ever made'. Unfortunately for Apple fans, there won't be any way to know for certain what the real colors will be until the iPhone 17 is officially launched in September. MailOnline has contacted the company for comment, but Apple is staying tight-lipped about any potential design changes. However, there isn't too much longer to wait. Apple's iPhone 17 unveiling event is expected to be on Monday or Tuesday in the second week of September, broadcast live from Apple HQ in Cupertino, California. The event's digital invite – potentially hinting at the iPhone 17's design – will be sent out to members of the press and industry analysts in the weeks prior. Apple fans will reportedly have four models to choose from – the standard model, an ultra-thin iPhone 17 'Air', and the more expensive iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. iPhone 17 Air, also referred to as 'iPhone 17 Slim', is expected to be a lighter, thinner option – rivaling the Galaxy Edge recently released by Samsung . The standard iPhone 17 will have two camera lenses in a vertical alignment, one on top of the other. But the other three options will have a rectangular camera bar across the back – similar to Google's Pixel phones. It suggests Apple needs more space on the back of the phone to pack in camera components for its high-end handsets. iPhone 17 will also have an aluminum frame with a glass back, enhanced cameras, and a powerful A18 chip for advanced AI tasks.
