Foreign national with UAE arrest warrant detained at Casablanca airport

On Thursday, police at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca arrested a 42-year-old foreign national from an Arab country upon his arrival in Morocco on a flight from Turkey. A background check revealed that the individual was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by judicial authorities in the United Arab Emirates. The warrant stems from an in-absentia prison sentence handed down in December 2019, related to charges of breach of trust and embezzlement. Moroccan authorities have initiated the legal procedures required under the extradition framework, pending the man's appearance before the competent public prosecutor. The UAE has also been notified of the arrest via the Arab Liaison Division of the General Directorate of National Security.

Morocco Arrests Arab National at Mohammed V Airport on UAE Warrant

Marrakech – Moroccan security services at Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport arrested a 42-year-old Arab national on Thursday following an international arrest warrant issued by judicial authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The police detained the suspect immediately upon arrival on a flight from Turkey. According to security sources, identity verification revealed he was wanted internationally at the request of Emirati judicial authorities for implementing a prison sentence issued in absentia in December 2019. The individual is implicated in a case involving breach of trust and embezzlement of funds belonging to others. He has been subjected to legal procedures related to extradition pending presentation before the competent prosecutor's office. The Arab Liaison Division of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has been tasked with notifying their counterpart in the UAE about the arrest. Security sources indicated that this arrest comes within the framework of Moroccan security services' ongoing commitment to strengthening international security cooperation, particularly in tracking and arresting individuals wanted for transnational crimes. The case reflects Morocco's active participation in global law enforcement networks. Through rigorous identity checks at key entry points, Moroccan authorities continue to enforce international arrest warrants effectively across national boundaries. On June 14, Marrakech police arrested a French-Malian national wanted by Interpol for international drug trafficking and money laundering. On May 14, Moroccan police arrested a 68-year-old Swedish citizen of Turkish origin at Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport. The suspect, who arrived on a flight from Turkey, was wanted on an international warrant for violent sexual assaults committed in 2021. On April 17, authorities apprehended three individuals of Chinese, Ukrainian, and Lithuanian nationalities. The suspects, aged between 22 and 25, were subject to international arrest warrants issued by American judicial authorities for drug trafficking and money laundering.
