Tripoli hosts Arab meeting supporting Libyan planning and development initiative
The Board of Trustees of the Arab Planning Institute convened in Tripoli, where it voiced support for a Libyan initiative to launch the Annual International Forum on Planning and Development. The forum, to be organized by the Libyan Institute for Planning under the patronage of the Ministry of Planning, is set to begin in 2026 and will be held in Libya for the first time. The meeting took place at the Mahary Hotel in response to an invitation from Mohamed Al-Zidani, Minister of Planning in the Government of National Unity. The event was part of Libya's hosting of this year's session of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Planning Institute, as announced by the Ministry on its official Facebook page. The session addressed several key topics, including the proposed activity plan and draft budget for 2025–2026, discussing various organizational and technical matters, with particular focus on advancing the Institute's digital transformation. Oman chairs annual meeting of Arab Planning Institute's Board of Trustees
Tripoli: The annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Planning Institute (API) was held in Tripoli, Libya, under the chairmanship of Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy. The meeting discussed approaches for implementing the Institute's 2025-2030 strategy approved at the API's meeting held in Kuwait in January 2025. Kuwait meeting focused on supporting efforts to promote sustainable development in Arab countries. Monday's meeting laid emphasis on ways to launch the second phase of a development index titled "Government Spending Efficiency Index in Arab Countries". The index aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the management of government resources. The meeting was held in pursuance of the institute's expansion of its training activities. The API annually organises more than 25 virtual training sessions on relevant topics like decentralization, local development policies, digital transition, the management of small and medium enterprise (SMEs) and sustainable and 'green growth' (environment-based economic development). On the sidelines of the meeting, Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri conferred with two Libyan ministers: Mohammed Al Zaidani, Minister of Planning, and Mohammed Al Huweij, Minister of Economy and Trade. The meeting stressed the importance of activating the provisions of the Omani-Libyan Joint Committee and a scheme for private sector cooperation between Oman and Libya, with a view to investing in the reconstruction of Libya. The two sides also discussed ways of boosting economic cooperation and exchanging expertise in the fields of planning and sustainable development.

Libyan and Omani Economy Ministers meet – agree to activate several existing agreements and hold a business forum
The Tripoli based Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, met with the Minister of Economy of Oman, Saeed Al-Saqri, in Tripoli yesterday. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the meetings of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Planning Institute being held in Tripoli and comes within the framework of strengthening and developing relations between the two countries. The meeting was held with the participation of Mr. Mohamed Al-Zidani, Acting Minister of Planning and Abdullah Fahd Al-Shami, Director General of the Arab Planning Institute, where many topics of common interest were discussed reflecting the desire of the parties to strengthen economic cooperation. Activating the signed economic and commercial agreement It was agreed to activate the economic and commercial agreement signed between the two countries in October 2009 in Tripoli, which aims to facilitate the exchange of goods, services and investment between two countries and reduce and exempt some agricultural and industrial products from customs duties. Activating the Libyan-Omani Joint Committee Activating the Libyan-Omani Joint Committee to follow up on the implementation of the terms of the agreement and develop cooperation in the fields of oil and gas, transportation, health and tourism, was also agreed. It was also agreed to activate the Libyan Omani Joint Investment Company, which was established under this agreement and is contributed to equally between the Libyan side (public and private sector) and the Omani side and is based in Tripoli. • There was also agreement on the formation of a joint technical committee to follow up and coordinate on mutual visits between delegations in preparation for holding meetings of the Libyan-Omani Joint Higher Committee. • Exchange of experiences in the fields of development and reconstruction between the two countries was also agreed. Libyan-Omani Economic Forum before end of 2025 It was agreed to organise the activities of a Libyan Omani economic forum before the end of this year, and on the sidelines of this forum, the establishment of the Libyan Omani Business Council will be announced. Omani companies invited to participate in Libyan projects Within the framework of the interest of the Tripoli government in cooperation with the Arab countries, Omani companies were invited to participate and contribute to development projects and reconstruction in the State of Libya, as well as facilitating the procedures for their registration in the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Planning.

Libya hosts Arab Planning Institute meeting in Tripoli
ThecMinistry of Planning hosted the second meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Planning Institute for the 2024–2025 term on Sunday in Tripoli, with participation from representatives of several Arab countries. The meeting, held at the ministry's headquarters in the capital, brought together delegates from Libya, Jordan, Djibouti, Somalia, Oman, Kuwait, Egypt, Mauritania, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco, along with officials from the institute itself. In his opening remarks, Libya's Minister of Planning, Mohamed Youssef Al-Zaydani, said the ministry's vision for the institute extended beyond regular meetings, aiming instead to strengthen its role as a leading Arab policy think tank supporting decision-making and sustainable development. 'We hope the institute will serve as a platform to turn challenges into opportunities, and ideas into tangible, entrepreneurial projects that meet the aspirations of our peoples,' said Al-Zaydani. 'Investment in knowledge must be our highest priority.' The minister also called for closer cooperation between the institute and relevant sectors to fund applied research and establish a regional Arab platform to connect experts and facilitate the exchange of knowledge in development planning. As part of those efforts, Al-Zaydani announced plans to launch an annual award to support planning research and promote innovation across the Arab region. Sunday's meeting is part of ongoing efforts by Arab nations to boost regional cooperation in development planning and capacity building. University of Tripoli signs cooperation agreement with Arab Planning Institute
The University of Tripoli has signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Kuwait based Arab Planning Institute. The agreement was signed by President of University of Tripoli, Dr. Khaled Aoun, and Director-General of the Arab Planning Institute, Abdullah Al-Shami, at a ceremony held at the University of Tripoli's presidency building, in the presence of several officials from both sides. Ministry of Higher Education explained that this step comes within the framework of enhancing the exchange of expertise and joint cooperation, through implementing several research projects. It noted that the agreement also aims to engage faculty members from University of Tripoli in the Arab Experts Platform accredited by the Institute and to link the electronic archive of the digital library of Tripoli University and the Institute.
