With ‘Arcanum', Amit Aggarwal weaves biology into the fabric of couture

No showstopper closed Amit Aggarwal's showcase at the 18th Hyundai India Couture Week 2025 because none was needed. His collection didn't just impress his loyal connoisseurs; it transported everyone present into a world where star power felt unnecessary. The clothes were the spectacle – futuristic and designer unveiled 'Arcanum', a collection that strips couture down to its elemental core, human biology. With this showcase, Aggarwal trades surface-level drama for something deeper: the invisible architecture that shapes life itself, our DNA. Amit Aggarwal's Arcanum decodes the human form into pleats, spirals, and metallic grace. (Photo: Instagram/FDCI) advertisementIf his previous collection, Antevorta, explored the fluidity of time, Arcanum is its genetic counterpart. The double helix, the three-dimensional structure of DNA, serves both as a symbol and a structural blueprint for the entire collection. Aggarwal's creativity takes it further, translating the code of life into sculpted silhouettes, precise pleats, and spiralling forms that had the audience fully captivated on the as Anatomy Each look in Arcanum is a wearable metaphor: gowns that twist like strands of genetic code, suits and co-ords that layer sharp tailoring with swirling, organic lines. This is metallic polymers meet traditional textiles (Ikat), structured forms stretch and curve like bioengineered exoskeletons. The result: a hybrid of future and heritage. You could see that coming for the colours that have been used in the collection. The collection was all about innovative materials like metallic polymers and reimagined traditional fabrics. (Photo: Instagram/FDCI) Deep jewel tones grounded the collection in richness, while electric reds, iconic blues, and high-sheen metallics gave it a transcendent, otherworldly edge. The interplay between charcoal, silver, and light-reactive surfaces added a sense of motion and mood, alive and shifting like DNA itself. Sculpted couture meets the sparkle of tourmalines, tanzanites and emeralds. This time, the couture week wanted to break its identity as just a bridal showcase, and it is safe to say Amit Aggarwal's 2025 couture collection was able to do it to a great extent.- Ends

Amit Aggarwal: Couture's new czar

he third day of the Hyundai India Couture Week, in association with Reliance Brands and an initiative of FDCI, began on a high note. Models in designer Amit Aggarwal's creation. There are a handful of Indian designers who take one by surprise every time, and Amit Aggarwal is one of them. His immersive showcase Arcanum, took inspiration from the very code of life, DNA, as he explored the invisible architecture that defines human existence. Aggarwal translated this concept into design using engineered techniques and layered construction. Traditional patola and ikat sarees were deconstructed and reworked, turning heritage textiles into something contemporary. Menswear also offered a fresh take on form with sculpted, almost armour-like tops and tailored pieces that showed deliberation. From the glittering hairdos to metallic makeup, the mood was intentionally futuristic. With Arcanum, Aggarwal merged science with craft, showing just how far couture can stretch when it is constructed thoughtfully.

Amit Aggarwal Decodes Couture With DNA-Inspired Arcanum At India Couture Week 2025

Amit Aggarwal showcased his latest collection, Arcanum, on the third day of the Hyundai India Couture Week. The showcase was a conceptual journey exploring the DNA. On the third day of Hyundai India Couture Week 2025, designer Amit Aggarwal once again pushed the boundaries of couture with his visionary new collection, Arcanum. Known for fusing fashion with philosophy, the designer turned inward this season – delving into the very code of life: DNA. Arcanum is not just a couture line; it's a conceptual journey through the invisible architecture that defines human existence. Where last year's Antevorta traced the outer dimensions of time, this collection explores its molecular interior – a meditation on the helix of memory, adaptation, and identity. Through five meticulously curated chapters: Origin, Bloom, Pulse, Mutation, and Memory, Amit Aggarwal crafts a story that transcends garments, speaking instead in the language of transformation. The show was a visual, auditory, and sensory treat. The collection opens with Origin, evoking the stillness before life takes form. Cocoon-like structures made from handwoven nylon and organic cotton wrap the body in a state of dormant potential. Then comes Bloom, where silhouettes unfurl like petals, echoing the awakening of genetic identity. Micro-pleated textures, signature polymers, and luminous colours breathe life into sculpted forms, revealing nature's inherent geometry. With Pulse, the garments begin to move: literally and metaphorically. Crystal veins and parametric metal details pulse across the body, expressing the interconnectedness of all living systems. This flows into Mutation, where design embraces unpredictability. Symmetry is disrupted, textures clash, and fluidity reigns, capturing the chaotic beauty of evolution and resilience. The final chapter, Memory, is a quiet crescendo. Drawing inspiration from ikat – an ancient technique where patterns are encoded into the yarn before weaving, Aggarwal reimagines heritage as a sculptural form. Here, tradition meets futurism, and the past lives on not just in fabric but in motion. Through Arcanum, Amit Aggarwal doesn't just dress the body; he dresses the self in transition. The result is a collection that is deeply emotional, profoundly intelligent, and visually transcendent. view comments Location : Delhi, India, India First Published: July 26, 2025, 09:22 IST News lifestyle Amit Aggarwal Decodes Couture With DNA-Inspired Arcanum At India Couture Week 2025 Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
