70% graduates fear AI will hurt job prospects: CFA survey
A sample survey by the CFA Institute found that over 70 per cent of graduates surveyed believe that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will make it harder to secure their desired jobs. At the same time, 92 per cent said that gaining proficiency in AI or automation tools would enhance their career prospects. The CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, on Thursday, released Global Graduate Outlook Survey 2025, capturing insights from over 9,000 fresh graduates, including 1,250 from India on career trends, confidence levels and sector preferences among others. According to the report, Indian graduates are more likely than the global average to think that AI or automation tools will make it more difficult to secure the jobs they want. While more than 50 per cent are confident that they will be able to use AI effectively, 56 per cent feel that having AI skills will give them an edge in the job market, apart from having relevant soft skills. Interest in AI careers has also seen a steady rise, growing from 59 per cent in 2024 to 63 per cent this year. 'This reflects a decisive pivot towards more future-aligned fields, driven by both awareness and adaptability,' emphasized the CFA report. Arati Porwal, Senior Country Head, CFA Institute, India, said, 'For this generation, AI is no longer just an option. And they are aware of how imperative it is for professional growth and are looking forward to gaining relevant skills.' The report reiterated that consecutively for three years, the finance sector continues to remain at the top of the list of career preferences among graduates, with 38 per cent expressing the most confidence in this sector, followed by IT (32 per cent) and education (21 per cent). The preference order of sectors remains exactly the same as that of last year's report. But the finance sector has noted a significant jump to 38 per cent feeling more confident about career prospects in this sector than 30 per cent last year. For those confident about the finance sector for promising careers, 23 per cent graduates consider it to be a stable and attractive career option, whereas 26 percent of graduates find it the most valuable sector to make a career. Dr Archana Singh, Professor from D Y Patil University, who was present for the launch of the report in Mumbai, said, 'The finance sector is evolving with time. In this new version, focus is on tech-enabled finance with use of technologies such as generative AI, blockchain etc. making it imperative for students to get relevant training for this evolving sector.' Notably, the majority of graduates (40 pe rcent) responded that they seek a job immediately after graduation. Whereas 68 per cent believe certifications offer better career progression than a postgraduate degree, reflecting a clear shift toward flexible, outcome-driven learning over higher education. The report stated that 85 per cent of Indian graduates say certifications have directly improved their employability or earnings. 'The insights clearly show a generation that is not only confident but also deliberate in the way they approach career growth,' added Porwal.

Prayagraj div to get rainwater harvesting in govt buildings
1 2 Prayagraj: The groundwater department has initiated a new survey to identify govt buildings in four districts of the Prayagraj division — Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, and Kaushambi — for installing rainwater harvesting systems. The state govt aims to cover approximately 15,500 square meters of area with rainwater harvesting systems in the financial year 2025-26. Additionally, plans are being made to install rainwater harvesting systems on 650 square meters each in Chaka and Sahson blocks under the Atal Bhoojal Yojna. Archana Singh, hydrologist of the hroundwater department, told TOI that they have launched a survey to identify govt buildings in all four districts of the mandal, and the work would be completed within two months. Once the survey is completed in terms of the number of govt buildings and the cost of the rainwater harvesting system, the proposal would be sent to state authorities for the sanctioning of the amount, she added. She acknowledged that the increasing demand and unchecked exploitation have affected groundwater levels. Efforts are being made to recharge groundwater in both urban and rural areas. In rural areas, filling ponds is an effective way to conserve rainwater, while rooftop rainwater harvesting systems are a suitable option for urban areas. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Officials, meanwhile, cautioned that there is an urgent need to check the over-exploitation of groundwater. Soaring temperatures, rising population, and the ever-expanding city limits are prime factors that have been taking a toll on groundwater levels. This resulted in a sharp decline in the level of groundwater across the four districts in the past few years. Officials, however, advocated that rooftop rainwater harvesting systems are the only solution in urban pockets to check the menace. Singh claimed that recharge pits, recharge trenches, recharge wells, dry wells, and ponds to collect rainwater are the only solutions to deal with the crisis; otherwise, the situation may become difficult in the coming days. Various departments are now putting more focus on water conservation, claiming that it is an individual's accountability to restore water resources, and stress is also being made to spread awareness in the same regard.

Bank fails to stop fraud after timely plaint by Noida customer, fined Rs 3 lakh
Ghaziabad: The district consumer commission has ordered Bank of Baroda (BoB) to compensate a customer nearly Rs 3 lakh for failing to stop , despite the victim promptly informing the authorities that her phone — where she got all OTPs linked to her account — had been stolen. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Archana Singh, a resident of Avantika Colony, lost her mobile phone on Sept 22, 2021, leading to a series of unauthorised transactions totalling over Rs 11 lakh from her savings account. Within hours of losing her phone, she claimed to have filed a police complaint and alerted the bank about the suspicious transactions. The fraudulent transactions, which were used for purchases on Amazon, began with a minor sum of Rs 329 and escalated to two larger transactions of Rs 5.2 lakh and Rs 5.7 lakh the following day. Through prompt intervention with Amazon authorities, the bank managed to recover and return Rs 2.4 lakh on Sept 24 that year and Rs 5.7 lakh in three more days. However, Rs 2.8 lakh remained unrecovered, as the items purchased with the amount had already been dispatched to an unauthorised user. During the hearing at the consumer forum, Amazon Retail presented its legal position and denied any responsibility for the purchases, but Bank of Baroda failed to appear or submit any written response, displaying lack of accountability. The commission, presided over by Praveen Kumar Jain, based its judgment on a Supreme Court ruling in the case of State Bank of India vs Pallabh Bhaumik and others, which establishes that banks are liable for unauthorised transactions when they are reported within the stipulated timeframe. The decision was further supported by RBI guidelines issued on July 6, 2017, which make it mandatory for banks to take responsibility for illegal transactions reported within three days. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The RBI guidelines issued in 2017 clearly state that it is the responsibility of banks for all unauthorised transactions if informed within three days," the order mentions. Taking a stern view of the absence of bank representatives during proceedings, the commission ordered BoB to reimburse the outstanding amount of Rs 2,8 lakh and imposed an additional penalty of Rs 5,000 for litigation costs and mental agony caused to the customer.
