China takes recurve women's team silver at Archery World Cup

MADRID, July 13 (Xinhua) -- China fell 6-2 to South Korea in the recurve women's team final, while Li Jiaman secured an individual bronze medal as Stage 4 of the 2025 Archery World Cup concluded here on Sunday. Ranked second behind South Korea in the qualification round, China's team, consisting of Li, Hai Ligan, Zhu Jingyi and Bao Jingyi, defeated Georgia, Italy and Chinese Taipei to reach the final against South Korea. In the final, South Korea's trio of An San, Lim Si-hyeon and Kang Chae-young claimed the opening set 57-56. The two teams then split the next two sets, tying 57-57 and 56-56. In a tightly contested fourth set where no archer from either side scored below a 9, a single extra 10 gave South Korea the edge at 56-55, sealing the set and the match 6-2. In the women's individual event, Li was defeated by Kang 6-2 in the semifinals but rebounded to beat Germany's Michelle Kroppen by the same score to take the bronze. Kang went on to defeat 17-year-old Hsu Hsin-tzu of Chinese Taipei 6-5 in a shootoff to claim the gold. In the men's competitions, France won its first World Cup gold in recurve team since 2017 with a 6-2 victory over the United States. After having fallen to France in the semifinals, reigning Olympic champion South Korea overcame Japan 6-2 to earn the bronze. France's Baptiste Addis, 18, was denied a second gold medal after being swept 6-0 by Mexico's Matias Grande in the men's individual final. South Korea's Kim Je-deok claimed the bronze. The United States defeated South Korea 5-3 in the mixed team final, powered by a crucial second-set win. The Archery World Cup now heads to Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province, in October.

Archery World Cup: Jyothi Surekha Vennam bags a hat-trick of medals

MADRID, SPAIN - JULY 12: In this handout image provided by the World Archery Federation, Jyothi Vennam of India during the Women's compound finals during the Hyundai Archery World Cup 2025 Stage 4 on JULY 12, 2025 in Madrid, Spain (Photo by Dean Alberga/Handout/World Archery Federation via Getty Images ) Kolkata: It was a busy day for Jyothi Surekha Vennam who claimed a hat-trick of medals in the Archery World Cup Stage 4 in Madrid on Saturday. Jyothi remained the sole podium finisher from India as the recurve archers once again fared poorly. The 29-year-old Jyothi opened India's medal hunt with a silver when she along with Parneet Kaur and 16-year-old debutant Prithika Pradeep went down 225-227 to Chinese Taipei in the women's compound team final. Top seed India made a strong start to lead 170-169 after the third end, but a wayward 7 in the final-end proved costly as the trio lost the fourth end 55-58 and thus the match as well. Jyothi next teamed up with Rishabh Yadav to outclass 10th-seeded El Salvador duo of Paola Corado and Douglas Vladimir Nolasco 156153 to claim bronze in the compound mixed team event. The teams were tied 39-39 after the first end, but Jyothi and Rishabh, who set a qualifying world record with a total of 1431 points on the opening day, pulled ahead by two points after the second and maintained their lead till the end to seal victory. Multiple Asian Games gold medallist Jyothi continued her good show in the individual category too when she got past Antalya-leg World Cup runner-up Han Seungyeon of Korea narrowly 144-143 in the semifinal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? India, however, missed out on another medal when her teammate Parneet, a 2023 Asian champion, lost to reigning European champion Ella Gibson 143-146 in the last-four clash. Gibson proved to be Jyothi's nemesis too in the final as the Andhra girl fought hard to lose 147-148 to settle for silver. Parneet too failed to make the podium losing the bronze medal playoff match 143-146 to Seungyeon. Catch Manika Batra's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 3. Watch Here!

Archery World Cup: India takes silver in compound team event after letting lead slip

India opened its account at the Archery World Cup Stage 4 with a silver in the women's compound team event on Saturday, but the result again spotlighted its struggles in crunch moments. The top-seeded trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and 16-year-old debutant Prithika Pradeep, who led the qualification round with 2116 points, seemed poised for gold after taking a slender 170-169 lead into the final end. But a nervy finish saw them slip to a 225-227 defeat against Chinese Taipei, which held its nerve to close with a near-flawless 58. India, in contrast, managed just 55, undone by a costly 7 and signs of pressure that have become all too familiar. The two teams were tied 57-all after the first end, before India edged ahead 58-56 in the second and led 115-113. A dropped 8 in the third end narrowed the gap to 170-169, but it still had the edge going into the final end — only to falter at the line. The loss once again highlighted the team's mental fragility in tight finishes and underscored the absence of a seasoned guiding hand since compound coach Sergio Pagni's departure post the 2022 Asian Games — a void still unfilled. India's medal hunt in the compound section isn't over. Jyothi will look to add to her tally in the mixed team bronze match alongside Rishabh Yadav and is also in the running for an individual medal, with both she and Parneet Kaur in the semifinals later in the day. Archery WC: Jyothi, Parneet enter compound women SF; Rishabh, Aman bow out in second round

India's Jyothi Surekha Vennom and Parneet Kaur booked their spots in the compound women's semifinal at the fourth stage of the Archery World Cup of the season. Jyothi, who topped the qualification round, defeated the Turkish archer Hazal Burun 147-144 in the quarterfinal to set up a final-four meet with Korea's Han Seungyeon. Meanwhile, Parneet made it to her maiden World Cup semifinal after beating Oznur Cure Girdi of Turkey by 142-141. Parneet, a 2023 Asian Champion, had never medalled individually outside the continent and missed out on selection for the first three stages of this year's World Cup circuit – in Florida, Shanghai and Antalya. She was just two points off her personal best of 704 with 702 points in the 72-arrow qualification round on Tuesday and now stands two matches away from her first World Cup podium. 'For me, to make some three steps that I want to focus on during my shot. And when I'm not shooting and sitting behind (the line), she told me to do a bit of calligraphy or draw something. That's improved my focus pretty well," Parneet told World Archery. Kaur faces reigning European Champion Gibson in the semifinal, with a potential final (or bronze final) against either Asian Games Champion and teammate Jyothi or Antalya runner-up Han Seungyeon. In the men's individual event, top-seeded Rishabh Yadav, Aman Saini, Priyansh all bowed out in the second round, while Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge crashed out in the opening round. In recurve archery, men's and women's teams had a disappointing exit in their opening round. The women's trio of Ankita Bhakat, Deepika Kumari and 15-year-old debutant Gatha Khadake, who opened their campaign from the second round due to their fourth seeding, lost 3-5 to France. The men's trio of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Rahul Singh and Neeraj Chauhan suffered 2-6 loss to Brazil.

Reigning Asian Games champion Vennam took the top spot in the women's section with a score of 715 points. Yadav led the 85-athlete field from start to finish at Vallehermoso Stadium and hit 716, his highest score on the international circuit, with 68 of his 72 arrows hitting the 10-ring, including 35 Xs. The women's team of Vennam, Parneet Kaur and 16-year-old debutant Prithika Pradeep later got past El Salvador (235-226) and Indonesia (230-226) to set up a summit clash with Chinese Taipei. The men's team of Yadav, Priyansh and comeback man Aman Saini, however, crashed out in the quarterfinals losing 233-234 to France.
