Assam Rifles seize drugs worth Rs 113.36 crore in Mizoram
Guwahati: In a major haul of drugs, the Assam Rifles and other agencies, in different operations have seized highly addictive methamphetamine tablets and heroin valued at over Rs 113.36 crore and recovered 7,000 detonators in Mizoram. The security personnel arrested three persons in connection with the significant seizure during the past 24 hours. A defence spokesman said that acting on specific intelligence, regarding the movement of drugs in Zokhawthar areas, an Area Domination Patrol (ADP) team of Assam Rifles observed two individuals carrying white rucksacks. Seeing the security forces, the drug peddlers jumped into the river and escaped across the India-Myanmar border. On inspection of rucksacks, the para-military troops recovered 33 packets containing 3,33,300 banned methamphetamine tablets weighing 37.476 Kgs. The approximate value of the methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba or party tablets, is Rs 112.401 crore, which was likely intended for distribution in Champhai town. Zokhawthar is a border town in eastern Mizoram's Champhai district, which shares an unfenced border with Myanmar. Live Events Assam Rifles found suspicious movement of two individuals on a Chinese Kenbo bike and intercepted them. During the search of the two individuals, 11 soap cases (128 gm) containing heroin worth Rs 96 lakh were found and seized. In the third operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police, while conducting a search operation in Chanmari areas of Aizawl district, recovered 7,000 detonators from an individual, who kept the explosive materials in his house. The recovered drugs and detonators, along with the three arrested drug peddlers, have been handed over to police.

Myanmar's Chin state is a hub for smuggling of varied drugs, exotic wildlife animals and many other contraband through six Mizoram districts -- Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual and Serchhip. Mizoram shares 510 km and 318 km of unfenced border with Myanmar and Bangladesh, respectively.

Assam Rifles seize illegal meth tablets worth ₹112.4 Crore in Mizoram's Champhai District
Assam Rifles recovered illegal methamphetamine tablets worth ₹112.401 crore in Champhai district of Mizoram on Friday (July 11, 2025). According to Assam Rifles, acting on specific intelligence, regarding the movement of drugs in Zokhawthar, an Area Domination Patrol (ADP) was alerted on July 11 at 5 p.m. Zokhawthar is a border town in the Champhai district of Mizoram. The team observed two individuals carrying white rucksacks. The individuals jumped into the river and escaped across the Indo- Myanmar Border. On inspection of rucksacks, the party recovered 33 packets of illegal Meth tabs (3,33,300 tabs approx) weighing 37.476 Kgs, valued at approximately Rs 112.401 Crores, which was likely intended for distribution in Champhai town. The recovered item was handed over to the Police Department, in Zokhawthar town of Mizoram for further investigation and legal proceedings. In another case of crackdown against illicit liquor trade on Thursday (July 10, 2025), Assam Rifles seized 1,800 cases of country-made liquor valued at approximately ₹15 lakhs in Jiribam District of Manipur. Two individuals involved in the illicit trade have been nabbed. The Assam Rifles, responsible for guarding a 510-km stretch of the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, has been actively engaged in curbing illegal activities along the border.

Contraband worth Rs 1.44 crore seized in Mizoram, 11 people held
Aizawl: Assam Rifles and other security forces have seized contraband worth over Rs 1.44 crore and arrested 11 drug peddlers, including two women, in Mizoram during the past 24 hours, officials said on Saturday. An official said that acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of contraband foreign cigars in Siaha District, an Area Domination Patrol (ADP) was launched by Assam Rifles along with Mizoram police at Tlangpuikawn areas. The security personnel intercepted four vehicles and recovered 83 cartons of foreign Cigars (Burmese Cheroot) worth Rs 62.25 lakh from the vehicles. Four people aged between 20 to 27 years were arrested in this connection. In another incident, the Assam Rifles, along with officials of the Excise and Narcotics Department, established a check post at New Dawn to Hnahthial road in Siaha District and intercepted four suspects. Upon thorough search, heroin weighing 109.08 grams valued at Rs 81.81 lakh was recovered from the four drug traffickers, including two women. In the third operation, the Assam Rifles and the state police jointly arrested three individuals from the Chawngte areas of Lunglei District and recovered 373 packets, containing approximately 124 litres of locally made alcohol worth Rs 93,250. All 11 smugglers and the seized drugs and contraband were handed over to the police for undertaking legal action. The security officials suspect that all the contraband was smuggled from Myanmar. The Siaha District has an unfenced border with Myanmar, while the Lunglei District shares a border with Bangladesh. Assam Rifles, Police seize brown sugar, illegal areca nuts in coordinated ops
Senapati (Manipur) [India], May 21 (ANI): Assam Rifles, along with local Police, conducted a successful search operation in Mao Gate in Senapati District as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking. According to a release, the operation led to the apprehension of two individuals suspected to be involved in illegal narcotics activities. During the operation, 38 soap cases containing brown sugar were recovered. As per the release, the total weight of the seized narcotics is approximately 442 grams with an estimated value of Rs 89.40 lakhs. This successful joint operation reflects the steadfast commitment of Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police in combating the drug menace and maintaining peace and security in the region. Meanwhile, based on specific intelligence Assam Rifles and the Customs Preventive Force recovered 327 bags of illegal Areca Nuts worth 1.83 crores on Monday that had been dumped and concealed in the jungle near Chhungte village in Champhai district, an official statement said. The recovered contraband was subsequently handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, for further investigation and necessary legal action. Earlier, as well Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, seized illegal areca nut valued at Rs 1.02 crore from Tlangsam in Mizoram's Champhai district, the statement added. According to a release, acting on specific intelligence of the movement of Illegal Areca Nuts in the general area of Tlangsam, Champhai, Assam Rifles and Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, launched an Area Domination Patrol towards Tlangsam village on May 2. During the operation, 187 bags of illegal Areca nuts were found concealed in a truck. During the operation, one individual was also apprehended. The recovered contraband, along with the person and the vehicle, have been handed over to the Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, the release stated. (ANI)
